The cottage is heritage listed and we have endeavoured to keep it simple and as traditional as possible whilst making it homely and warm.
This cottage was built approximately 1900 it is a retro experience..we have not made the inside look new!! it still has the original wooden walls high ceilings old single pane sash windows. The kitchen was originally in what is now the lounge room and the bathroom was a wash house outside. The kitchen and bathroom are at the back of the house now in what was probably a back veranda this is typical of this era.
If you love smick muted tones matching furniture and new this cottage is not for you try one of the many new establishments. If however you embrace a time gone by then you like us will love the ambience the eclectic family furniture and memories. A very traditional old fashioned experience.
The cottage is one of very few remaining in the town centre. It is in the town centre so you may get some street noise at times and the odd pan clashing in the bakery but their delicious baked goods more than make up for that The front garden is totally private and hidden from the street by a tall hedge. The front entrance has an equally private front verandah perfect for soaking up the afternoon sun. Because it has blinds it is also a perfect spot to watch a storm or cosy up with a rug and a book.
A lovely private courtyard out back. The rear block behind the cottage is not included, please do not enter and watch the kidlets
Inside the cottage two traditional bedrooms with high ceilings ,wooden walls and sash windows. NB they do not stay up without a prop ..there are wooden blocks around the house for this purpose
A large lounge with a comfy couch and gas fire makes for a cosy place to relax. NB turn gas heater off when retiring or leaving the cottage The bedrooms have electric blankets and electric oil heaters.
We have a large screen TV and many books. Alas no WiFi! You can access free WiFi at the library not far away and also the many local cafes. And added bonus is they do great coffee and yummy food our fave components Cafe turn left out the gate 4 doors down
The kitchen comprises cooker stove ,microwave, coffee pot, toaster etc . we will leave the u coffee tea and milk. .The woodfire bakery next door may tempt you with delicious home made goods supermarket 3 doors down
The bathroom is quite authentic with a deep old fashioned bath and shower over if you have ##mobility issues you might get need to clarify it has not been modified. The ceiling light is a pull light switchbeside the bathroom door. The water is super hot.. Fabulous but test it before getting in. And mind to use the non slip mat. Note there is no hot water in the hand basin there is an additional hand basin in the kitchen with hot n cold water.
Things to do in the area
Dorrigo has wonderful walks just around town or down by the river. However a must visit to the Dangar Falls just out of town and a pleasant 4 klms walk approximately return. Depending on your fitness you can also walk to and swim at the bottom of the Falls which is spectacular.
Dorrigo National Rainforest Centre is on the edge of the plateau on the top of Dorrigo mountain. It has fantastic trails for all ages and fitness levels as well as an amazing sky walk above the forest.
The town also features a lovely 9 hole golf course, swimming pool and other attractions.
The very best thing about our cottage(among) many! Is the fact that you are within steps of all the town facilities. No need to drive your car to go out for dinner or drinks :)
