Perfect, quiet Thanksgiving getaway!

We were so happy to spend a quiet Thanksgiving trip at Henry and Julie's wonderful VRBO on their horse ranch! We brought our dog and it was perfectly set-up to enjoy the space and neighborhood with her. The enclosed front yard made it easy to travel with a dog. Inside the guest house we had everything we could ever need to feel right at home. We would love to stay again!

The perfect place to stay!

Great location - peaceful and relaxing spot away from it all yet a quick drive to restaurants, shops, wineries, the coast and more. The owners have truly thought of everything you could possibly need. Loved our time here and would highly recommend.

Wonderful!

If you need a perfect place to stay in Sonoma Valley, this is it! The location is perfect for visiting wineries, going to the beach, and going to all the nearby plazas. The cottage is spacious and comfortable and has everything you need. We loved talking to Julie and Henry (and Olivia) and getting recommendations of places to eat and see. My husband especially enjoyed talking to Henry (and feeding the fish!) and was amazed at all he had done. We’ll definitely stay there again next time we’re in that area!

Wine lover's paradise for two

This place is so amazing! It's located very near to at least 3 of our favorite wineries. The accommodations are wonderful! The kitchen has everything you need to create that special meal, plus lots of coffees and teas to choose from. The living area is very roomy and comfortable. The bathroom is more than you'd expect with double sinks, large mirror, and plenty of linens. The owners are very helpful and available whenever you need anything. This was our second stay here, and we hope to be back again.

I ❤️ Ross Creek Ranch

We had a lovely stay at the Ross Creek Ranch Boarders Lounge. The studio is very large and well appointed and the hosts provide tons of items to make it feel like home (kitchen has all the needed tools and staples, extra plush towels, soap/shampoo/conditioner/hand soap, plush robes etc). Location is in the middle of Graton, very convenient to Sebastopol, Santa Rosa, Forestville, Guerneville, Bodega etc. The apartment is in the middle of a working horse ranch making it feel rustic. I enjoyed having my coffee on the front porch behind the privacy fence with the fountains and birds.

Magical Ranch

We had the most lovely time at the Ranch. Julie is an exceptional host that goes above and beyond expectations. Everything was cozy and comfortable. We enjoyed taking a morning stroll visiting the horses and walking the grounds. If you’re lucky Mellisa will be teaching a class you can watch and learn her next level horsemanship. The location is perfect. We would love to stay there again!

Charming Escape

I feel like our stay at this charming cottage was like an Eagles song, just a peaceful easy feeling . When you come inside the gates of the ranch, you enter your own private world. The cottage is a warm open comfortable space, stocked with everything you need. If you are traveling with your furry friend, the yard is full inclosed. A great location for exploring the Sonoma wine country. Julie and Henry are wonderful hosts and Champ and Kirby are cute and friendly. Champ would drop by for visits with our furry friend, was wonderful. We look forward to coming back again.

Great Place for Exploring the Russian River Valley

Julie and Henry's cottage was perfect for our trip! It had everything we needed, and they gave us lots of suggestions for exploring the surrounding vinyards. We walked to three wineries and a restaurant, all within a couple miles off the nearby West County Trail. There are vinyards and apple orchards in every direction. The kitchen was well equipped for preparing meals, which we ate al fresco at the tables in the yard. If you like wine and walking, friendly hosts and comfortable accommodations, this place is perfect!

Shelter from the storm

We came to get out of the winter of 23 snow storms. We live in the Sierras and would be totally snow bound if we didn't make it to beautiful Sonoma County. Then, the mountain passes all closed and we could not get home.....so we extended our stay at this beautiful place for another 10 days! EXCELLENT access to epic bicycle rides and all types of dining. Quiet, peaceful......and our dog Miles loved it here. I can not give this VRBO high enough praise. Spacious, private, and so comfortable. I will book this place EVERY time I'm in Sonoma County.

Weekend in Sonoma

The house is just as described and looks on the site. Julie and Henry are both extremely nice and helpful. We were greeted with a bottle of wine, bread and cheese which was extra ordinarily generous. The kitchen is complete with everything one needs to cook up a nice meal. The house is so comfortable and on Sunday morning we just relaxed drank coffee,, fed the fish in the fish pond and watched some football. We will definitely be back and are thinking of staying in November some time to go crabbing for dungeness crab in bodega bay. Thank you to both Julie and Henry for an outstanding stay.

A comfortable well laid out space

The hosts are friendly and accommodating. Were willing to wash our linens in non scented products. The space and bed were comfy and spacious feeling. Only negative about this place for me was that the front faces other ranch buildings not that there were lots of people running around but I generally prefer more privacy. They do have curtains to block the view but then the space is darker. But if that’s not an issue for you I would definitely recommend this place!

Best VRBO ever!

My husband and I have stayed in many vrbo's in the last 10+ yrs. I have to say that this is the cleanest, the most wonderfully unique place we've stayed in. It's located in a quiet area surrounded by vineyards and our favorite wineries. My husband has been a wine connoisseur for over 40 years, and we've grown to love our annual visits to northern California. During our 5-day stay, we visited 7 wineries! When we weren't visiting wineries, we were able to enjoy the "Boarders Lounge" with all of its conveniences and amenities. We especially loved visiting the horses and picking the blackberries that were in season and plentiful. Henry and my husband are about the same age and became fast friends, enjoying long chats whenever they saw each other. Julie and Henry are excellent hosts. We enjoyed our visit so much that we're hoping to stay again next year.

Perfect Place for a Quiet Getaway!

We stayed 4 nights over a long weekend and couldn't have been happier with the place! We arrived late at night with no issues. The cottage was very well cleaned and we had a bottle of wine and cheese waiting for us when we arrived. The bed was comfortable and there were plenty of extra blankets and pillows. The nighttime view of the sky was pretty awesome out in the country! We sat on the porch and enjoyed that since we don't get to see too many stars in the city. There is a nice walking trail right down the road which was great! Julie was a fantastic host. I spoke with her a couple of times before our arrival. We had concerns about the fires and she answered all of our questions! I highly recommend this place if you want a nice clean comfortable stay!

Perfect place for a Wine Country Vacation

This is a fantastic property with wonderful hosts! My husband and I recently stayed for a week of relaxation in beautiful wine country. Having visited the area several times before, we were looking for a comfortable place in the Forestville/Sebastapol area and the pictures and reviews of this property made it seem like a perfect fit for our needs. Upon arrival, it exceeded our expectations. The cottage is clean, spacious and quite comfortable. Julie and Henry are dedicated and generous hosts who have truly thought of everything. Having stayed at many VRBO properties over the years, we have learned that experiences and amenities can vary widely from one rental to the next. This cottage came equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely book again on our next visit to the area. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for an exceptional experience!

Peaceful place that is bubbling

We loooove the house! It is exactly what we were looking for. Something removed from people but full of life. Peaceful but busy. Private (inside the courtyard, you’re in your own world) but not lonely (exit the courtyard and explore the land)! We really enjoyed walking the ranch, seeing all kinds of new things and talking about them together. Feeding the fish, petting the cats, seeing the low pond and the frogs jumping (come on rain!), sending the horses good vibes, picking berries, doing yoga on the front porch, smelling the roses in the rose garden, and eating on the outside table. We also walked the nearby trails and enjoyed the vineyards, goats and barn owls. Even walked all the way to town! Thank you for this healing escape for us to celebrate life. Also, you have a really good eye for decorating a home! Love your taste!

Perfect Lodging for Attending Michael Ellis Dog Training School

We stayed in the cottage for two weeks with our two dogs while attending the Intensive Obedience Training course at the Michael Ellis Dog Training School in Santa Rosa. It took just less than 20 minutes to get to class each day. The cottage has a washer and dryer, which we needed since we often came home at night dirty from training activities. Although there are two other dogs and a cat at Ross Creek Ranch, we were able to exercise our two big dogs on the ranch property each morning and evening. This was super helpful. If you are doing a long stay, and you plan on cooking each day, you may want to bring a cooler for groceries as the cottage refrigerator is very small. We solved that problem by dropping in at the market and getting more food each evening. Everything worked well for us, and Julie and Henry were very helpful hosts. We would definitely go back to this property the next time we are in the area for a dog training seminar.

Lovely property, relaxing couple getaway

We spent 3 nights in July 2020 and thoroughly enjoyed it. The house was plenty large for the 2 of us with a nice living room, kitchen and bedroom area. Outside the door of the house, there is a two-person sitting table under the roof and a few other sitting areas where you can enjoy the bubbling water and fish pond. You will see some activity because it is an active horse ranch, but otherwise is extremely quiet, private, and peaceful. The full kitchen is good enough to cook meals if you want to stay in and living room is comfortable for hanging out to watch a movie on the big TV (we were able to plug-in our laptop to watch Netflix). Internet is very good and reliable. The location is very convenient and rural. The property has a few small houses and the horse ranch in the back. There is a vineyard behind that and then across the street is an apple orchard. You get the idea. Though you have the feeling of being away from the world, Santa Rosa is close enough for good food delivery options; Bodega Bay and Guerneville are each ~25-30 minute drive; nice walking trail about 5 mins away; so you have very convenient day trip options. Overall- really nice place to spend a few days away from the bustle in the Bay Area.

My month in the Country!

During the Pandemic this Big City Girl thought a month in the country would be the perfect antidote for me and my dog Oso. I was lucky to find and secure a very special place - Ross Creek Ranch “Boarder’s Lounge”. During my month I experienced so many delights, dramas and surprises. Throughout it all Julie, Henry, Olivia and their dogs were beyond kind and helpful. I have become so found of them all – especially the Ambassador of Ross Creek Ranch – their little feisty dog Champ. I was delighted to see my reactive dog Oso get along with all the dogs and looked forward to our daily visit from Champ. You will enjoy the walks on the ranch, the walks to Graton and Forestville, watching Henry and the Ranch Hands work the ranch, visiting the horses – so many wonderful moments. Very much appreciated is the beautiful, serene and secure outdoor space in front of the property where Oso could sleep in the sun and I could entertain visitors outside. On a practical note – the sheets, kitchen, wifi etc. everything “top drawer”. Spotless and well-appointed we were very comfortable there and will always remember our month at Ross Creek Ranch. Oso and I can’t wait to return!

About the host

Hosted by Julie Hunter

Host profile image
Henry and I are very proud of the accommodations and amenities that we are able to provide through VRBO. We want our guests to know that our top priority is providing 5-Star service in every way. We affectionately refer to the cottage as the "Boarder's Lounge", since resident horse owners used to gather there. It has now transformed into an elegant, yet rustic chic, home-away-from-home. We look forward to being your hosts!

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this country property, primarily because of its quiet location and pastoral views. Even though we are surrounded by nature, we are close to everything that matters. Visitors to our ranch always feel at home here.

What makes this property unique

In addition to being centrally located to so many marvelous places & activities that Sonoma County has to offer, we are right across the street from the West County Trail (perfect for walking, jogging and bicycling)!
