Warm and dry on a rainy night

We enjoyed our stay. It would be good to have somewhere to put a suitcase that wasn't either on the floor, or on the couch. We wanted it out of the way for the inevitable middle of the night loo trip, so it ended up on the couch. Also the only place to hang our coats was in the bathroom, and we didn't notice that till the morning, so we draped them over the stools. The hosts were friendly and we enjoyed stay.

Awesome eco cabin

Great location with views of the Tararuas. Very tidy with all amenities of an off grid cabin. The wood burner was great during the chilly evening.

About the host

Hosted by Mireille & David Hicks

From a 20ft container workshop in the backyard, to realising his dream of building an entire house out of six 40ft shipping containers, is where it all started with our life style.

While building the house, our family needed somewhere to live during the whole process.

David decided to convert a single 40 ft container into a portable home for this purpose. While working on both builds at the same time, he was constantly approached by people enquiring about shipping container conversions. This is what has turned this adventure into a business.

And now this modern, cosy cabin is the latest edition to the property, which is being utilised as an AirB&B.

Why they chose this property

Our cabin is located in central Wiararapa with access to all great little townships closely (Martinborough, Greytown, Featherston and Masterton), as well as the beautiful mountains of the Tararua ranges. There is so much to do in this region!
