Wairere is one of the finest country estates in the district featuring a luxury 4 bedroom homestead with spacious indoor and outdoor living areas, all nestled within 4 acres of beautiful gardens designed by the famous Edna Walling 100 years ago. Stunning garden & rural views abound from every room - outdoor living areas lead to stone edged gardens, pool & tennis court. Located on a quiet country lane only 10 mins to Mansfield or Lake Eildon - 20 mins to Mt Buller gate. A tranquil, relaxing escape ideal for families and couples in any season.
THE HOMESTEAD:
Wairere's main living room features two large comfy leather lounges, the perfect place to curl up to enjoy the open fire, glass of wine and a movie on our large Smart TV. Enjoy lazy late morning breakfasts, while gazing at the fields and cattle grazing in the paddocks, all while listening to the abundant bird life singing in the garden. The kids will be endlessly entertained by the large array of outdoor and indoor activities, which cater for every child’s needs from exploring the expansive gardens, to fun in the large 10x4m pool, or a spot of tennis, or bounce on the Olympic in ground trampoline. On rainy days relax watching a movie, or select from one of our games (board or electronic PS3), puzzles or books to while away a lazy hour or two.
The real hero of this property is the abundance of outdoor spaces - in Summer, Autumn, Spring and even Winter you’ll enjoy relaxing on the outdoor lounges and bean bags with a rug, cuppa, wine or book all while enjoying the vista of our expansive lawns, elms, cedars and oaks - which were all planted by Edna herself 100 years ago! In the evenings enjoy a poolside BBQ overlooking our gardens dappled in the late afternoon sun with views to the paddocks beyond. Conclude the evening by relaxing under the Milky Way with a wine by the warmth of the crackling stone firepit.
Wairere offers a truly memorable experience where families can reconnect and indulge in the beautiful gardens and rural surrounds.
THE PRACTICAL STUFF: There is ducted heating and cooling throughout the home plus panel heaters and ceiling fans, including a fan over the covered outdoor area.
The homestead features 4 well-appointed bedrooms (7 beds in total) with stunning garden views from every room. The bedroom options are as follows:
Master Bedroom - King bed with ensuite bathroom
Bedroom 2 - Super King bed
Bedroom 3 - Single over double bed plus trundle accommodating a couple or range of family options.
Bedroom 4 - King Single plus inner spring trundle (full height for added comfort).
Our two bathrooms, separate toilet and laundry feature washer and dryer machines, heated towel rails, toiletries and hairdryer. For our skiers we also offer a drying cupboard in the laundry.
Our kitchen is the heart of the home and is fully equipped with full size fridge, large 90cm cooktop and oven, Miele dishwasher, microwave and quality dinnerware and appliances.
PLEASE NOTE:
1. We can accommodate a maximum of 10 guests (inc. infants) at the property. We also have a separate 1 bedroom (queen bed + bathroom) fully self-contained cottage (Wairere Rest). This space is NOT in the rate and would need to be booked separately. If you are interested in booking this space please see separate (Wairere Rest) listing or send us an enquiry.
2. We only accept bookings from family groups and groups over 28 years. Please ensure you add details about yourself and other guests to your booking so we know who is coming and what your reason for travel (particularly important if you don’t have any reviews).
3. Strictly no loud music and no events including bucks/hens nights and birthday parties. Quiet hours are 10pm - 8am.
4. The solar heated pool is available for use from mid September - mid April (including school holidays). Outside of these dates the pool will be covered to protect it from leaves and debris.
5. Young Children - Guests should note that Wairere is a working farm with unfenced water, farm animals and wildlife nearby, therefore guests with younger children should consider these risks before booking.

We had 5 nights Easter 2026. Pool very clean and family used. Clean and well presented in all the home and surroundings. Could not fault the kitchen and pantry supplies. Family loved the outdoor fireplace which we sat around every evening.Would highly recommend for an enjoyable break. 10/10

We had a wonderful stay at Heather’s home, the homestead and gardens were immaculately taken care of, so many beautiful details in and outside the home, perfect for a getaway with close friends and family. We absolutely loved having our family holiday at this home and will definitely be back. It was great for 3 families to come together, with plenty of room and space for all. The communal areas were fantastic, great kitchen, outdoor areas and the pool and tennis court were great for all ages. This is one of the first times where the property was better than the photos - the property is just spectacular.

Heather was a brilliant person to deal with and made all the booking process so easy . Her home is beautiful and close to Mansfield. The family loved the tennis court, trampoline and pool. Waireere had everything we needed and appreciated the extra touches. Hope to be back soon!
This was the perfect property for our family getaway. There was so much for the kids to do, from playing tennis to swimming and then jumping on the trampoline. There was also plenty of space inside and out to have some quiet time. The house and cottage were actually more spacious than we thought and were so well maintained and clean. The location is lovely and remote but still close to Mansfield. The grounds are just beautiful. So glad we stayed here.
Well presented, large property set in a beautiful garden, with ideal leisure facilities. Despite a large group, individuals had space to escape others and get away from it all. It is so private; in the five days we did not see other people or vehicles.
The property was amazing. Our family group of 14 had plenty of room. The pool was a favourite over a very hot week. After having left a couple of things behind, Heather couldn't have done more to assist us getting these items back.
We had a wonderful at this beautiful property. There was plenty of spaces inside and out to accomodate kids and adults. Highlights included fun on the tennis court (rackets provided), jumping on the trampoline, cooking marshmallows by the outside fire and home cooked meals with all the adults and kids at the spacious dining table. A 15 minute drive got us into town for the markets and visit to the pub. Heather was efficient at communicating.
The house is fantastic. Just the fireplace is hard to running well.

Thanks Ting for your review we are pleased you had a great stay. I wish we had known you were having issues with the fireplace as we could have helped. It is a Euro Fireplace which is generally very easy to light and much easier to operate than a traditional wood heater - I did provide detailed instructions on how to use it and haven’t received complaints from any other guests, however I do acknowledge that if you are not familiar with lighting and maintaining a wood heater they can be a bit tricky for the first few times as you do need to follow the instructions and use the right wood, firelighters etc to get it established.
The location was perfect, picturesque and quiet. The garden is just beautiful, sculptured, very well designed, with many paths to wander and a new 'window' at each turn - even in winter! The house was simply wonderful, the beds super comfortable, with lots of places to spread out. The cottage a fantastic bonus for mixed generation family get togethers. We are already planning a return trip. The very best in a series of recent holidays in Vic and South Australia. I truly recommend this property - 11/10!!
Wairere is a beautiful modern cottage on a beautiful property. The pictures do not do it justice, it is more gorgeous in person! We stayed as a large family group and it catered for all of us. My favorite part was..... come to think of it, the whole thing!! It was absolutley stunning inside and out! Amazing communication too! Thank you to Heather and Dennis for allowing us to stay your magnificent holiday home! Lots of wonderful memories were made!
