About the host

Host profile image
Welcome to Mokki Stay hosted by Mark and Kat. It's been a forever dream of ours to find a sanctuary and a retreat outside of the the everyday "hustle and bustle"
Our love for travel has us staying in some unique places around the globe. From hostels in our early backpacking days, to magnificent 5+ resorts. Our favourite stays have been in boutique hotels and unique host stays. We are grateful to have had these experiences as our inspiration/vision board in creating the Mokki Life.

Why they chose this property

mökki (Finnish)
Noun: mökki
A small, usually wooden house; cottage, cabin next to water

Mokki was inspired by my Finnish grandparents who enjoyed entertaining anyone who visited with their Finnish traditions. Their mokki, was off grid rustic cabin nestled in the forest on Trout Lake in Thunder Bay Ontario. We used to spend the summers chasing fire flies, fishing for tadpoles, and wandering through the forest. No matter season, my grandfather always had the wood burning sauna/steam bath ready for anyone to warm up and relax in.
