About this property

LUXURY OCEANFRONT ESTATE! Private beach & heated pool & hot tub. Sleeps 10!

We specialize in family vacation rentals and residential stays of 7 nights or more. We have many wonderful families who have come to Whales Watch for 1 to 4 weeks for decades for their annual Nantucket family vacation. We hope you choose to become part of the Whales Watch Family!

Many consider Whales Watch to have the best ocean views on Nantucket.

Since June 2022, we do not allow weddings or events. Whales Watch resides in a quiet residential neighborhood (please see below for details).*

Please message for pictures of new large heated swimming pool (20 feet by 40 feet) and three hot tubs! There are four fire pits & four outdoor showers as well. Brand new teak pool furniture with navy cushions on the pool deck.

VIP RETURN GUESTS -- receive preferred rates and off-season VIP specials. Whales Watch is beautiful year round!

I am the owner of all three houses. They were built in the 1980s and I purchased them in 2016. I've since done some serious renovations and upgrades to all of them that I'm sure you will enjoy. New floors, bedding, linens, furniture, state-of-the-art appliances, etc. I can send updated photos and videos upon request.

I will be your direct contact for booking -- then once booked, I will connect you with my Caretaker, who can arrange groceries, bicycle rentals, reservations etc.! We will ensure you have a fantastic experience!

*Unfortunately, due to some wedding and event planners holding excessively loud unauthorized events at Whales Watch -- in June 2022, I agreed to a zoning change (deed restriction) for Whales Watch. Weddings and events are now 100% prohibited. We focus solely on residential family vacations. I want to make sure Whales Watch is preserved as a quiet relaxing oasis for my family and your family to vacation for many decades to come!

Located in Tom Nevers, a neighbourhood in Nantucket, this holiday home is in a rural area and on the beach. Nantucket Shipwreck and Lifesaving Museum and Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum are cultural highlights, and some of the area's attractions include Theatre Workshop of Nantucket and Vestal St Observatory. White Heron Theatre and Dreamland Film and Performing Arts Center are also worth visiting. Jet skiing and scuba diving offer great chances to get out on the surrounding water, or you can seek out an adventure with ecotours and hiking nearby.

Property gorgeous

However the new kitchen and bathrooms did not make up for the ancient furniture, old, ripped and stained linens or appliances that weren’t fully working. It’s too bad because the property is so beautiful and if owner replaced literally everything inside the house that’s not nailed down we would go back.

Hi, I politely disagree with this review. I've owned the property for 6 years and I have many long term tenants and all 5 star reviews. This house has new furniture and new linens. Kitchen and all bathrooms renovated in 2021. The heated swimming pool is brand new. This tenant was sloppy and very loud -- the neighbors even called me with a noise complaint. No other tenant has complained about this house in 6 years. I would not rent to this tenant again -- they are impossible and clearly looking for something for nothing.

Spectacular view

The property was everything it was claimed to be, stunning views, remote location, super clean and more! The pool was gorgeous, although it never got warm enough for us to swim, it was beautiful to sit around and hang out. The outdoor kitchen is spectacular and was super clean! I definitely recommend this property and hope to return again next summer! Hot tubs were beautiful and clean. Kitchen is well stocked, plenty of linens and towels. This property is very private and quiet. Plenty of parking, beautifully landscaped. Beds were super comfy. We were in whales watch III and both whales watch I and II had guests and we barely saw them. They were super nice though and we had a wonderdul vacation. The caretaker was also super helpful with any questions we had. We appreciate the attention to detail!

Great spot

Fantastic location and great that each house has its own private hot tub. Renovations of baths and kitchens were tastefully done. The shared pool was very nice, good size, and nice layout and lounge chairs for lots of guests. Having access to the beach right there and hearing ocean waves all the time was a great treat. We’d definitely stay here again.

We loved the serenity and beauty of this location. During the height of summer season, it was almost a private beach...yet still close enough to town when we wanted to venture in. Great house, perfect for couples and kids

I'm a Charleston SC-based real estate professional who has been going to Nantucket for over 30 years. I spend many months a year at Whales Watch -- so I'm truly sharing my home with you. It's a special place. I searched for decades to find a special Nantucket property of my own, and I purchased Whales Watch in 2016.

Why they chose this property

Very special direct oceanfront property. Best views on Nantucket. This house in particular has private balcony off master bedroom/bathroom and porch off kitchen, both with views of the ocean and Tom Nevers pond.

Most mornings you can see seals along the coast or up on the beach, and on rare occasion you can see whales out in the ocean (hence the name). The land is also teeming with wildlife - especially bunnies and deer - as Tom Nevers is tucked away from the busier areas of the island.

The best part of Whales Watch in my opinion is that half of the acreage is a private beach, which is yours to come and go as you please. Wake up, make coffee, and step down to the sand in your robe to say hello to the seals. Really special place!

What makes this property unique

Direct access to owner whose family has been connected to Nantucket over 100 years. The street name was recently changed to "Reeds Way" to honor the Reed family's charitable work on Nantucket. Michael Reed will assist with any special requests during your stay!
