About this property
Mammaw's Lakefront Cabin bordering The Blue Ridge Parkway
Experience the authenticity of Mammaw and Pappaw Darnell’s home place ½ miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway and across the street from the Raccoon Holler Campground lake. The beautiful lake is right in front of the home place. Used to about 5 years ago, there was no water or bathroom in this cabin. After Mammaw passed away, it was our dream to restore the home and leave the rooms as Mammaw had them in order to share the love of the cabin with others. Now complete with granite counter tops, hardwood floors, and whirlpool tub with it has all the modern day luxuries. You will really enjoy your time here – two bedrooms (i.e., three full beds as two are upstairs in one room), full bathtub, separate shower, washer dryer, dishwasher microwave, hardwood floors, natural beams etched with pine hardwood to provide the rustic cabin feel yet with the modern day appliances of comfort including flat screen cable television.
This property also has RV hookup. If you have RV, you can connect it all here
Sit on the front porch and look at the lake, view the lake from the kitchen, living room and upstairs bedroom. This home place offers authenticity and comfort. Convenient to Jefferson and West Jefferson, 22 miles out the Blue Ridge Parkway to Boone and a mile from the famous Northwest Trading Post, right off the Blue Ridge Parkway, 15 miles from Wilkesboro, come home to Raccoon Holler

This place is warm, sturdy, clean, safe, with a rustic feel, yet modern kitchen and bathroom, and comfortable beds. This was my second stay, and I was very pleased both times.

Very nice cabin
The inside of the cabin is beautiful! Some of the pictures makes you believe you have access to the lake. You do not! It is owned by a camp ground and they have no choice words to make sure you know it and stay away. Keys are in a lock box but my communication said they would be under a mat. Never was communicated the code to the lock box until the owners mother happen to drive by. She seemed more surprised than I did that I hadn't been told. They claim the wifi operates without a password but look on the fridge for it. Also don't trust any the phone numbers they provide in their communications. All wrong numbers but if you do get inside they are on the fridge as well. Overall a very nice cabin but access and communication is a pain.
2nd time here at Raccoon Holler. Love the location and love the house. Very roomy and everything u may need. We will be back for sure. Great communication with the owner! Having the pets with us is a plus always!

Peaceful little cabin
Very quiet, peaceful and clean. Well stocked with all necessities. Great porch and view of pond. Slept great. TV didn’t work in downstairs bedroom which wasn’t a dealbreaker for me. Upon contacting property manager about it, she responded quickly and offered to provide a solution. The owner was also responsive and provided excellent information prior to stay.
Lovely location with beautiful scenery of the lake. This cabin had everything we needed and was conveniently located close to West Jefferson. We enjoyed spending time on the front porch and walking our dog around the property. We did get to meet Wanda who was so sweet. The cabin was comfortable and will definitely visit again. Our pets were intrigued by the stuffed raccoon, too. Lol!
We will absolutely be back for a stay here. We loved it! It’s secluded yet centrally located to everything!! Very convenient. The cabin was very clean and Wanda was very helpful and quick to get back to us with any questions! TEN stars!!!
The cabin was just as described; quaint, clean, came with everything we needed and had a pleasant view of the pond access the road. Owner and manager were super accommodating. Our only negative was that the master bedroom bed was both uncomfortable and very loud. We had a very poor nights sleep.
We had a great overnight stay at this property recently. Wanda and Denver were very easy going to communicate with. The view of the lake across the street is beautiful to wake up to.
Great place, helpful owner, very nice little cabin off the parkway.

Not as picture portrayed.
House is nice but sits on the road and the lake is across the road - picture is misleading. No phones, fire place didn’t work nor did the satellite.

Our stay was great thank you for having us at your cabin just one question is the $50 cleaning fee returnable if we cleaned and also the kitchen sink was leaking under the cabinet so I tighten the fittings up to fix it thanks

Peaceful and very beautiful
We enjoyed our stay at Mammaw's Lakefront Cabin. When we arrived everything was so quaint, just like when I was young, it had that homey atmosphere. The beds were very comfortable. It rained most of the time that we were there but it was beautiful in the morning when we woke up and the fog was over the lake. I didn't realize that the cabin is so close to the Parkway. The GPS took us in different directions each time we left to go somewhere; but once took us down the Parkway and when we turned off onto Possum Hollow Rd. there it was. When you stay you must go into West Jefferson and go to the Ashe County Cheese Factory. The town has lots of shops that are awesome as well. We will definitely be making reservations to return next fall. Thanks for the hospitality.

Why they chose this property
This property is far from the madding crowd, and an exquisite getaway in any season. Very accessible in all seasons with state maintained roads. It is close to the parkway, minutes away from all the attractions. FREE WIFI But why did I buy the property. Well I tell all my students about this in my Service Management Courses at the University of Central Florida Rosen College where I am a professor. I grew up a mile away and my Pappaw and Mammaw Darnell lived here and when I came to visit, though they had no water and no bathroom and an outhouse, they gave me a beyond a Ritz Carlton Experience, a Raccoon Holler Experience. I know the love is still in the walls. Completely made 'sexy' and remodeled in the modern day form with great rooms and amenities, the cabin has the same likeness as it did when I stay all those weekend with my grandparents. At noon, they argued over who woke me up - Pappaw got the chamber pot ready so I did not have to go to the outhouse - the smell of Pine cleaner emanated from that pot - they kept everything immaculate. After the morning bathroom visit, Mammaw had breakfast on the table. The two of them loved me and never said a negative word to me - to be welcome by them was to never forget it. I hope you have such a time there.
Not to mention, my amazing Mother, Wanda, the caretaker was raised here and has her own stories to tell from the Holler.
Come join the Raccoon Holler family and stay. It will capture your heart and soul and make you feel rejuvenated head to toe.
