Nestled in the gardens of the historic Tinui Station Homestead you find Rose Cottage, a delightful self-contained cottage for up to four people. Pet friendly strictly by arrangement. The Cottage features two bedrooms, full bathroom, cosy open plan living area with a wood burner and two outdoor areas. In front of the cottage, you’ll find the spa pool under the stars, as well as room to BBQ and dine outdoors. The side porch opens out into a secluded cottage garden - look up! In summer you’ll find trailing wisteria and climbing roses perfuming the air.
The garden and grounds are a sanctuary for birds thanks to over five years of biodynamic practices. More than 30 species of bird have been spotted here. From the Bellbird bringing in the dawn chorus, Tui celebrating the sunset and the Morepork closing off the night, vibrant bird life defines the relaxing backdrop of the Estate.
There is much to enjoy here in the tranquil surrounds. The immediate garden area is wrapped by a river-stone wall and home to established trees and flowers to charm you. Discover the bustling orchard of plum, peach, nectarine, pear, apple and citrus. Explore further! You will find the twin oaks that have watched over the Homestead since its founding over a century ago. Each corner of the grounds has its theme, from multiple plantings of native New Zealand plants and trees to the Rhododendron and Australian tree corners.
Further afield, there is much to see and do. Around the corner, walk the Tinui Anzac Walkway up to the Anzac Cross – marking the first Anzac Commemoration in New Zealand in 1916. Look around charming Tinui Village. We are centrally located to Mataikona, Castlepoint, Otahome and Riverdale beaches with a choice of options for swimming (Riversdale is patrolled during the summer season), walks, fishing, snorkelling and sights to see. The coastal walk at Castlepoint and up to the tallest lighthouse in the North Island is a must do. Inland, Rewanui Forest Park offers forest walks with notable plantings of native trees. Tennis court hire is available at Castlepoint. Or play golf at the Castlepoint Golf Course or Riversdale Beach Golf Club. Both golf courses are nine-hole courses – with the option to extend the Riversdale course to 18 holes by playing twice from different tees.
The General Stores at Castlepoint and Riversdale also offer coffee and take-aways. Great pub meals can be had at the Tinui Pub just a 5 minute walk away.

Such a lovely place to stay, beautifully presented, every condiment you could want, fresh flowers and herbs in the room. A lovely bottle of bubbles in the fridge, hot tub a real treat, so quiet. Host are fantastic, they go above and beyond to make your stay so comfortable. Highly recommend and would definitely be back.
It is a beautiful setting, excellent privacy and amenities. Little things like supply of fresh fruit, a bottle of wine and chocolate. Nice tranquil location.
This was such a calming place to stay! Beautiful surroundings and Hans was great at giving us all the information we needed, while still respecting our privacy.
We loved this place and the hosts ! The cottage is very clean well appointed, the fire was going and the electric blankets were on when we arrived. Hans gave us a very interesting chat on the history of the station. We are already booking another stay, cant wait to go back !

An absolute gem of a property. Pretty and peaceful for a relaxing break
Hosts are amazingly enthusiastic and friendly and have created a wonderfully peaceful Homestead. The cottage was everything we wanted for a couple of days getaway from the city.
Brilliant facility with everything you need, the hosts are helpful and friendly. Highly recommend this retread, great walking on the farm and in the immediate location. planning to return. Melissa
From the first moment of greeting, with a thorough and humourous tour, to the softness of the bath robes, the warmth of the hot pool and the crackle of the fire, we had a perfect weekend of comfort and relaxation. Would definitely recommend it!
This is a great place to relax and chill. Good for winter or summer, with the woodburner and the spa. Surrounded by trees, places to walk. The local pub does a mean (big!) burger, and Castlepoint is a short drive away for a walk or surf or swim. Fully kitted out kitchen, and Masterton supermarkets not far away. Wifi works fine. Perfect escape for a long weekend.
Driving down the treeladen entrance to the property heralded the beginning of our stay at Rose cottage . We were greeted warmly by Hans and he introduced us to the cottage and property .
The decor and attention to detail in the cottage is difficult to describe in words, however I will endeavour. Blush walls, beautiful drapes and furniture. Fully equipped kitchen and such a comfortable bed .
However ,the little touches provided by Hans were thr most memorable. A beautiful flower arrangement f
fresh from the gardrn, the electric blanket turned on to warm the bed, a large bottle of organic fejoa and apple juice in the fridge and wood freshly cut for the fire .
From the cottage we enjoyed its close location to Castlepoint lighthouse and a meal at thr newly refurbished Tinui Tavern. In all an unforgettble experience.
