Direct Mickey Lake, Traverse City, Kayaks, Hot Tub, Row Boat, Dog ok
A very rustic cottage on Mickey Lake. This home, built in 1938, has the charm of the older cottages of yesteryear with some modern conveniences! It has a rowboat, fire pit, hot tub, and kayaks. There are two bedrooms, one with a Queen and one with a twin over a twin bunk bed. There is one small bathroom. You may have to duck to get in the door. A Well-behaved dog is welcome with an additional nonrefundable cleaning fee. However, humans are expected to clean up after their pets.
This cottage is very close to the water, so it does tend to get musty during rain so there is an A/C unit in the closet in the primary bedroom. Please leave the doors open when not in use, and there should be no problems. Cabin has no furnace--it has an electric fireplace and a space heater. Four life jackets are provided, but if specific sizes are needed, please bring them. Mickey Lake is connected to Long Lake, and boaters can enjoy both lakes. The rowboat does not have a motor. There is a gas grill for cooking a nice outdoor meal and a fire pit for gathering after dinner.

So glad you enjoyed! Thank you for staying with Visit Up North.
This was exactly what I was looking for; a bare bones, rustic lake cabin. The neighborhood is quiet and charming and it would be hard to find a better view. You will definitely need to buy drinking water because the tap water has a metallic smell and taste and is yellowish in color. The hot tub was a nice amenity.

We are pleased to know that you enjoyed this rustic cabin. Like many cabins in the north, it is on a well and does have iron in the water.

TC Mickey Lake cottage
This is an old cabin in need of maintenance, renovation & cleaning. The lake and jacuzzi were nice.
A long rainy weekend in a cozy little cabin reading books by the lake. Space is small w rustic bath but the living room and sun porch make it feel big.
We had a lovely time here. The location is great, the lake is pretty and calm, and the hot tub is fantastic. The cottage itself is a bit dated/janky, but we expected that based on the listing description. If you're fussy you'll surely find things to nitpick, but if you're just looking to chill on a lake and be close to Sleeping Bear Dunes, this place is great and reasonably priced.
Bring bottled water! The water is very rusty. This is a no-frills cabin, as described. It was a good home base for our fishing trip - within walking distance to the boat launch. The lake is beautiful. It was great enjoying the lovely view from the hot tub. Also, the property manager responded quickly when I had a question.

The Mickey lake cottage needs some work. With a few simple fixes it could be so much better! Add a real counter space next to the refrigerator. Add HOOKS throughout the bedrooms and bathroom. This is a lake house and there is no place to hang your towels and bathing suits. The bathroom: Needs a total remodel The back room where the bathroom is located is so musty, if the windows opened it would help air it out!

We appreciate your five star rating for the location and suggestions regarding this historic rustic cabin. We have taken them to the owner.
My husband, 25 year-old daughter and Irented this cottage for eight days due to its proximity to Traverse City but away from the hustle and bustle. Mickey Lake is absolutely precious with so much wildlife, including loons everywhere and bald eagles! It is a true classic cottage with many original features and overlooks the water, if you are looking for a waterfront getaway, you can’t get any closer than this! The beds were comfy and the linens clean the kitchen was well appointed. There was a dock with plenty of space for us to tie off our boat. The fire pit is right down by the waterfront and made for beautiful evenings, sitting and chatting. The gas grill worked great and there were plenty of closets to hang things up. If you are a boater look no further, there is a boat launch about a five minute walk down the street to launch your boat. The Wi-Fi worked great and plenty of comfortable seating in the family room and front porch. I highly recommend this beautiful little corner of Paradise!

Thank you! We are so pleased to know that you found this little corner of paradise to your liking! We hope you will visit us again!
The description did say “very rustic”. However I didn’t expect it to have beasts and ants flying around, stained toilet and shower. Water smells nasty and the air flow is minimal. With that being said, the view is great! Hot tub was also great. Furniture new and clean. It’s a little cabin on a lake. It’s a lot of money for 4 nights. $1500. Wouldn’t go back but it wasn’t awful. No wake on this lake. And fishing wasn’t good either.
If Jeffrey Dahmer moonlighted as an interior decorator, this would be his masterpiece. The “master bedroom” had a curtain instead of a door (romance-killer), and the bathroom? Oh, just a MUSHROOM growing out of the wall AND the door doesn't close or latch.Let’s not forget the giant hole next to the electrical panel COVERED by a picture like some Scooby-Doo secret passage — except instead of treasure, it revealed acorns and evidence of animal squatters. Fire hazard? Check. Possible asbestos poisoning? Double check. The listing promised “charm.” What we got was black mold vibes, sagging ceilings that looked ready to cave in after the next storm, and furniture strategically placed to hide giant carpet stains (I don’t even want to guess). “Memorable moments”? Sure — in the way food poisoning is memorable. The kicker? VRBO rated this property an 8 out of 10. Excuse me… what? Unless the rating scale runs from “abandoned crack den” to “technically inhabitable,” that number makes no sense. We left as soon as we could. The host did move us to a safe, clean property (thank you), but we lost the very amenities we booked for (waterfront hot tub), wasted a full vacation day packing, driving, and unpacking again — not exactly the relaxing trip we had in mind. Attempts to “make it right” were met with dismissive comments and silence. One positive? The view was great. But trust me — you can find the same view without risking black mold, fire hazards, or accidental wildlife roommates.
