About this property
'Kardinia' Holiday Home close to Dalpura Beach and boat ramp.
'Kardinia' Holiday Home is nestled between native Eucalypt and within walking distance to beautiful Dalpura Beach and boat ramp, the walk takes me approximately 7-10 minutes. Canoe and Kayak launch point, off Oomool St/ Golden Sands Boulevard, is a 5-minute walk in the opposite direction and is an excellent spot to throw out the crab pot. BTW, the view of Straddy is sensational.
Kardinia is a 3-bedroom house with the third bedroom being a detached sleep-out equipped with a TV, ceiling fans and air conditioning. Air-conditioning is also in the lounge room and fans are in all rooms. The house is styled in a fresh, modern coastal vibe. It is quintessentially an Aussie beach cottage (bedroom 2 has a bunk bed with a pull-out trundle and can sleep 3 people). Sensor lights surround critical points outside the house, sleep peacefully knowing that smoke alarms are professionally installed and compliant.
Waking up to the dawn chorus of bird song is peaceful and calming and allows you to get in sync and adapt to the pace of nature. In the evening, right on happy hour, the Curlews come to visit. An Island holiday is just what's needed to reconnect and reset. It's almost hard to believe that you are only an hour and a half away from Brisbane City and twenty minutes by Sealink Ferry to Victoria Point shopping, restaurants and cinemas. By the way, don't forget your Go Card, it's only fifty cents each way.
Kayaks are provided on request so you can experience the island from the water's edge, or if that's not your style, adult float rings are supplied, again on request, allowing you to drift away the day down on the Bay. Just so you know, Dalpura Beach sunsets are stunning, with views of the mainland and Coochimudlo Island. The beautiful, tranquil waters and sandy beach make it magical for young children and families.
Pats Park is also nearby and offers enclosed swimming and BBQ facilities.
Fishing and crabbing are part of Island life, so don't forget your yabby pump, fishing rod and head down to the jetty.
'Kardinia' is close to the Club Macleay, the Island Bowls Club and Bistro. Visit and take in the sunsets, which are amazing (ring the club to ask about the courtesy bus). Cafes, restaurants and my favorite 8th Sense Kitchen for a Gelato and more are dotted around the Island and give dining out a distinctive setting. If Golf is your thing, Macleay Island offers this along with a club restaurant. There are several clubs and sports clubs on the island, ranging from sailing at Tingara Boat Club to Yoga and Ukulele. Lions Markets on Macleay Island have been running for many years and are held on the first Saturday of every month, except January (weather permitting). Visit Macleay Island Progress Association, which provides an outlet for local creative arts and marketing. The hall supports educational, recreational and social activities and is a venue for creative arts events. Saturday morning for fresh fruit, vegetables and meat. The Island has a new Art Gallery, MIAC, which recently opened, displaying the talent of local artists. (:
Sealink provides a Barge/car ferry to and from Redland Bay to the island and a quick passenger ferry service. However, they do not accept cash; they accept cards only. (For the Barge, make sure you book in advance.) Inter-island transport to Russel, Lamb and Karagara passenger ferry service is free.
The taxi service runs from the Macleay Island ferry terminal taxi rank.
Bus service to and from Redland Bay Marina.
Spar and Star supermarket, Pharmacy, Doctor's surgery, Dentistry and Hair and Beauty are on the island, as are Ambulance, Fire and Emergency Services.
Macleay Island is part of the Redlands Coast, which offers everything and anything a holidaymaker could ask for.

About the host
Hosted by Brigid
I have worked in aviation and customer service for many years and have traveled the world extensively. However, during the pandemic, I found Macleay Island and fell in love with the beauty and simplicity of Island life. I love being a host, it's what I do and love.
Why they chose this property
For quite a few years I spent time sailing around the South Morton Bay Islands and I could never get over the beauty and allure of the bay. Other than admire, I didn't investigate the islands other than Straddy, but the vision left a lasting impression. Later, my son joined Nippers at Coochimudlo Island and I would look across the bay and wonder about the other islands within the SMBI.
Years later following a spur-of-the-moment decision with a short break on Macleay Island, I decided then and there that Macleay Island was my style ... the friendly community and scenic environment felt like a world away from Brisbane but was part of Greater Brisbane so for me It was an astonishing find ... so close and yet so far.
