Magical Kauai Cottage on North Shore TV5131 NCU

Hale Huna ('Hidden House') is a wonderful cottage on a hillside near the end of the road on the North Shore of Kauai. Located on hill and a quiet cul-de-sac with only a few other local houses. Very private and peaceful (It is NOT on/near the highway like many Kauai rentals). Perfect for a family getaway or honeymoon cottage.

Our cottage had no flooding or leaks during the 2018 flood on the North Shore. It is above the regular tsunami inundation zone, but just within the extreme tsunami inundation zone if there's a 9.0 or greater magnitude earthquake in the Aleutian Islands. The safe zone can be reached by walking uphill to the other side of the street or by driving to Princeville.

Beautiful views of green mountains from backyard. Lush plant life, including mango, grapefruit, banana and lemon trees. Outdoor shower sheltered by tropical foliage. This is a small but charming and tastefully furnished plantation-style cottage with the feel of real Hawaii. Within five minutes drive of gorgeous sandy beaches: incredible snorkeling at Tunnels and Ke'e Beaches, world class surf at Hanalei Bay and picturesque Lumahai.

The closest town is charming Hanalei, which has restaurants, a grocery store, a health food store, shops, bars and more. Hanalei Bay is famous for its large crescent beach, winter surfing and calm summer waters. The stunning NaPali Coast is just minutes away (the mountains seen from the backyard are the back of the Pali's/Mountains).

The North Shore of Kauai is known for its lush tropical, rainforest-like climate and vegetation and low key lifestyle. It's a fantastic place to relax, read, swim, hike, surf, snorkel, eat fresh fish and my favorite, just walking on the beach looking for shells.

Great little house on a quiet street

The property, the owner , and the manager were all wonderful. The cottage was amazing and comfortable. However I lost two nights sleep due to a barking pack of dogs. They were down slope and the noise traveled up to us. The property manager was quick to get back to us and the noise was reduced for the rest of the stay.

Absolutely prefect north shore cottage. Located just up the road from the local general store, coffee shop and shaved ice. If you are trying to get away from the resort atmosphere this is the spot for you. Quiet and mellow place to spend your days relaxing in Kauai. Minutes from the beaches and Hanalei.

Magical VRBO

This was such a great stay! We didn't use the indoor shower once, eat fruits off the fruit trees and ate all of our meals outside. The property is jungle-y and private and has gorgeous views. It's secluded but also close to Hanalei - very unique location. Thanks for having us

Amazing Stay at Quiet, Beautiful Cottage!

My wife and I spent a wonderful week at this cottage for our honeymoon. We had done our research and reviewed this listing carefully, but walking up to the cottage and opening the door took our breath away. While the cottage is older, it is in exquisite condition, and the owners have gone above and beyond to make it feel like home. The house is very clean, the beds are very comfortable , and the kitchen is fully stocked. We enjoyed eating our meals at the outside table. I would stay here again and again. 11/10 stars.

Hidden gem on the north shore

We were incredibly impressed with the cottage from the moment we walked in the door. It was bright, beautifully decorated, sparkling clean and perfectly outfitted. We cooked almost all of our meals at the house and everything was thought of. All of the rooms were so comfortable and our kids loved that they got their own room. The cottage is nestled in one of the gorgeously green little valleys, only minutes from the beach, and you can walk down to the market for all kinds of goodies (plenty of staples and local steaks). The kids had a blast picking fruit from the yard! The yard itself was so lush and well kept. It was absolutely perfect. A huge thank you to our hosts for being so flexible and very easy to communicate with. We would love to stay again in the future.

Magical, peaceful cottage close to beautiful beaches, hiking & Hanalei

We absolutely loved Kristi’s cottage. Retreating to her peaceful sanctuary was just what we needed! Property manager, Kris, was awesome and super helpful. We loved playing board games, cooking fresh fish outside on the little grill, and the use of the beach chairs and surfboard/boogie board were big hits with our kids. The impeccable tropical landscaping is filled with orchids, hibiscus, fresh fruits & sweet Cocoa, the dog next door! The windows open in the evenings made for a perfect and cool rest at night. Aloha and mahalo for a most wonderful stay! We would love to return one day!

Perfect location and cottage

Very happy with our stay. The kitchen was well stocked with spices, oils, essentials for baking making it easy for me to cook for the kids. The beds are really comfortable and the trade winds were effective most nights and other nights we used the AC which worked well. Backyard was fun for the kids to explore. The neighbour's dog was really friendly and kids loved calling Coco day and night. The house is far from the main street so it was always quiet and peaceful. Stargazing at night was amazing. Clear view of the milky way and many shooting stars. Excellent location with short drive to Tunnels, Haena, Hanalei, Kahalahala.

Living like a local on Kauai

We were lucky to find this quaint cottage during the peak holiday season. Owners and house manager were very accommodating letting us in early as we were in a bind moving from one place on island to this cottage. We are locals and needed an extra place to stay while building our house. House was clean, pictures are good reflection of the home. Cottage was super cozy and we loved being there. If this is your first time to Kauai this is really far north in the tropics and a total escape from tourist. Almost to the end of the road. Just know this is a real "locals" neighborhood and up a unmaintained country road. There is a quaint market on the corner and a restaurant at Hanalei Colony hotel down the road. About 15 min to Hanalei along the stunning single lane roads of the north shore. It is a true Hawaii cottage. Great place to escape. Thanks for the hospitality.

We absolutely loved our stay Kristi’s home on Kauai. The location was fantastic, tucked near Hanalei on arguably the most beautiful side of the island. Communication with Kristi prior to and the days before our trip was clear and precise. Kristi even checked in on us during a Tsunami advisory, making sure we were aware and knew where to go which I thought was nice. For the house, it was beautiful, pictures online don’t do it justice. The decor and art work were beautiful. The place had everything we needed. The outdoor space was nice and appreciated the outdoor shower area and sink, made rinsing off from those beach days easier. I included just some of the flowers on the property and some of the visitors we had.

A dream

We were absolutely in love with this home. We stayed for a week in April. Very quiet neighborhood, walking distance to a small market and a coffee shop, not walking distance to any beaches but a short drive from Tunnels beach and probably 15 minutes from Hanalei. The owner provided so many recommendations. The whole stay was a dream.

Paradisiac Home in Kauai

Perfect stay on the north shore

What a wonderful property! The house is beautiful, well equipped and lovingly looked after. Me, my wife and our three children loved staying. It's a great location for travelling the north shore. We enjoyed the Na Pali trail, Hanalei and snorkeling on the beaches. Communication was great. Thank you very much.

We are a family of 4, who live in Avon, Colorado. We feel so blessed to be able to enjoy the contrasting beauty of the Colorado mountains and the tropics of Kauai. Our two sons feel pretty lucky that they get to ski at home and play in the ocean in Kauai.

Why they chose this property

We always found ourselves being drawn back to the North Shore of Kauai, so we decided to take the plunge and buy a place. We couldn't believe that we found such a cute, vintage cottage. It truly feels like the Kauai I remembered from my first visit as a young kid in 1971.

What makes this property unique

We love eating the fruit from our yard and getting to know our local neighbors. We spend almost every day at the beach. We can hardly believe that some of the most dazzling places in the world are just a few miles from our cottage: Hanalei Bay, Tunnels Beach, the Napali coast, Ke'e Beach, the Kalalau Trail and Lumahai Beach.
