A really nice property with everything you could wish for and more, in a great location to enjoy all the town has to offer and surrounding area. Clean, really well furnished and equipped. One of the best we've stayed in.
The Counting House was really, really lovely. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it to friends and family. It had lots of space for two people, was very clean and comfortable and had the most amazing mural on the bedroom wall painted by the owners
What a lovely holiday home to stay in, filled with history and beautiful architecture. The house was lovely and clean, the bed was so comfortable and the kitchen had everything you could need. The owners Alison and Peter were only a message away if we needed anything, Alison checked in with us as the weather had been particularly bad, to ask if everything was okay and we assured her that it was. We can highly recommend the Counting House and would be happy to return there. The town itself was steeped in history and everyone we met were friendly and welcoming. A great place to stay.

A very comfortable and pleasant stay, the house was quirky but spacious and was great for the two of us. Everything you need for a get away break was there and it is very handy for the town's eating places- You must try Le Mistral.
Wirksworth is great base for the southern Peaks with some great walking nearby ..Dovedale, Monsal Trail, Cromford Canal. As well as Bakewell and Chatsworth to visit along with Haddon Hall being a must.
Thoroughly recommend The Counting House with Alison & Peter being great hosts.

This was a fantastic 1770’s house, beautifully restored to its elegant Georgian period, ideal for a couple on a romantic escape! We absolutely loved the quality of the artistic work by the owners on the fixtures and furnishing. These included - among many delightful touches - a wine box (containing a complimentary Prossecco!) crafted into a perfect facsimile of the house façade, and a stunningly hand-painted feature wall in the bedroom, replete with peacocks and other exotic birds. (We felt this was an interesting take on hand-painted wallpapers we have seen in National Trust properties of the Georgian period).
And there seemed nothing missing in the way of 21stC essentials - easy to use and cosy central heating, TV, Wi-Fi etc, and a very well-provided kitchen - though it was also very easy to eat out in this location! Car parking could have been a problem - the house entrance is on a narrow side street in the centre of town (though on a cul-de-sac, so very little traffic past the door) - but the owners solved this neatly by the booking including a permit covering the nearby car parks, for 24-hour, 7-day parking. The nearest car park was only a matter of tens of yards from the house so this worked fine.
We found Wirksworth to be a lovely market town with plenty to do in the area on a short break, even at a time of year (February) when all the large stately homes are closed and long walks in the Peak District are not high on the agenda. There are several interesting churches (Wirksworth, Youlgreave, …), a fabulous bookshop in Cromford, even a nice circular walk out of the Counting House’s front door and up the hill to the view at the millennial StarDisc, with a detour across the old limestone quarries. And Derby is nearby, with its unmissable Museum and Art Gallery.
All in all, highly recommended!
