Antonio was exceptional in the way he greeted us, answering all of our questions. He even made some great suggestions. Property is as described but would emphasize the location is great, with walking distance to all of our interests. Would book again!
This was exactly as pictured. Very clean and neat. Walking distance to many attractions including St. Peter’s, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona. Restaurants & cafe right next door and others close by. Host Antonino was easy to communicate with and very helpful. Would recommend.
This apartment was clean and in a great location. We were able to walk to many attractions around Rome. The windows kept out most of the city noise. Antonino quickly responded to our questions. We had a wonderful time in Rome (we stayed at this apartment a month). In addition, the apartment has everything you need (including some guide books and a medical kit). We enjoyed our stay at the apartment.
Antonio is excellent and made the checkin process very easy. The apartment is lovely with its original architecture elements. Everything is very close. Tourist attraction, shops, supermarket, restaurant. You couldn’t ask for more. This is my second stay in the apartment and I will stay here again when next in Rome. Thank you Antonio.
Excellent location for visiting the main attractions in Rome, most places are within walking distance. Restaurants, groceries, pharmacy etc in very close proximity. Everything you might need is available in the apartment. If you want another bed set up you must ask the host, only 1 actual bedroom, with a queen bed. The overall condition is a little run down, this is why we rated 3 for cleanliness....could use a refresh or good deep clean.
There are 3 steep flights of stairs up to the apartment, no elevator.
Overall, very enjoyable stay. Host was very easy to reach.
Incredible Old World Apartment in the Heart of Central Rome
This was by far the best option for a family of four in the center of Rome, considering it's two large rooms (a bedroom and living room with sleeper bed) with A/C in both rooms and a washing machine. However, don't run them all at the same time, as we learned, otherwise you'll lose power - but it's a simple fix to flip the fuse switch. The shower could use a bit more cleaning and more water pressure and heat (at best it was a very warm lukewarm, but not hot), but overall it was a wonderful apartment and the host Antonio was exceptional, meeting us for check-in and helping us carry our bags up the 5 flights of chairs (good to note for those traveling with small children that it's essentially a 5th floor walk-up, so plan accordingly).
The apartment is in a good location in the historic center, It is quite large, although there is only one large bedroom. The bed was comfortable. We did not realize upon booking that the apartment was on the 4th floor, with no elevator, so there are many stairs to climb (this was an iissue for my wife who has asthma). Although there is a chairlift the owner did not have access to it. The kitchen is tiny and it takes a long time to get hot water from the tap. The place looked as if it had seen better days (threadbare carpet, broken toilet hinge, portable air conditioners that are effective but require periodic emptying) but despite this it was confortable. Communication with Antonino was good. VRBO or the owner did not mention the tourist tax of 6 euros per person per day, over and above the VRBO total posted price, and in our opinion they should, even if the tax applies to all hotels and all short-term rentals for Rome in 2024.
The apartment was as described, previous reviews said the bathroom was moldy, that has been resolved. The location was pretty good, great restaurant on the ground floor and a bus station right outside.
The problem we had was the air conditioning, or lack thereof. There were 2 freestanding A/C units provided, one for the living room and one for the bedroom. We had them running non-stop while we were home and were never able to get the rooms below 84 degrees. Outside temps were mid-90's during the day and mid-70's at night. Multiple times the breaker would pop when the only thing running were the A/C units, one night we just turned one of them off so we didn't have to keep getting up in the middle of the night. We contacted the host and he said we must be using too many devices. In addition, the wood flooring was so damaged from water around the A/C unit in the bedroom that the boards were sticking up about 1/2" and I almost stubbed my toe on them.
This would be a really nice place to stay in the Fall/Winter, but was absolutely unbearable for us in late July.
We enjoyed the neighborhood and central location. The restaurant below the apartment is wonderful.
The issues:
- CO2 detector is listed but there is no battery, I just happened to check. Would prefer to say no CO2 detector if host is not checking
- Power kept going out… host stated this never happens and that we were using too many devices. We only had a few phones charging and the AC units on (it was hot and humid). This occurred throughout our stay at odd hours… I had to keep resetting the breaker.
- Host did not tell us the AC unit drains into a bucket and needed to be emptied during the check in process… discovered this at 4AM when it was leaking all over the floor. Host again stated that this had never happened before although the floors around the units appear to have had previous water damage.
-Host resolved the issue by bringing a larger container that did not need to be emptied every 4 hours. Still had to empty the containers daily.
- The bathroom is in very poor condition… there is mildew everywhere on the floor, the shower doors, the grout. The bathroom smells moldy and mildewy.
- The kitchen is very small and the counter top has a seam that is literally held together with duct tape.
- The kitchen table only has seating for 3 people… we just made it work for the 5 of us.
Overall, a very good experience. Check in was easy. Not too hard to find. We walked from the train station which was only about 15 - 20 mins. The place is on the 3rd floor, which for US citizens is really the 4th floor, so expect to walk up a lot of steps. The building is very old as was the apartment. There is no elevator. Plenty of space within the unit. Small but functional kitchen, seatig area, bedroom, bathroom. Everything we needed was provided. Washing machine (but like most places over there, no dryer). We didn't use the heat or AC so can't comment on that. Good location except that it was on a very busy street and was pretty noisy with the windows open day or night. With the windows closed, it was fine. Bed was comfortable. TV had good movies and could get in English. It had a bar (coffee shop) and a couple restaurants right under the place which were very convenient. Plenty of restaurants nearby as well as high end shopping near the Spanish Steps. Small mini-mart was about a 5 minute walk. Big sites like the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain were all a 15 min walk or so. Not bad. We took a bus to the Vatican. Bus system is flaky at best but you can load an App that helps with the schedule...sort of. Rome overall is packed with people, everywhere, so be ready for that. Streets are narrow, sidewalks are really narrow and traffic is constant. It is a fun place to explore though. This apartment was a good place to stay for our 3 nights there.
