This lovely light filled rustic modern unique Topanga Canyon home is a quiet and private oasis on over an acre of land in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains. Comfortably sleeps 6+. Close to Los Angeles yet feels far removed.

The space

About two miles from the center of Topanga and ten minutes from the beach, the house is surrounded by ancient oaks, perched above a seasonal creek, and looks out over beautiful views of the surrounding hills from every room. Close to greater Los Angeles, yet worlds away from the hustle and bustle. Charming mountain life with sounds and sights of many animals abounds- one often sees deer, rabbits, red tailed hawks, owls, coyotes, frogs, raccoons, and more! This peaceful bohemian getaway is perfect for a family's enjoyment or would be fantastic for a relaxing getaway with friends.

Huge private decks with plenty of outdoor seating, large shade umbrellas, a generous Moroccan tiled dining table, gas grill, outdoor heater, chiminea, and numerous plants will keep you happily outside day and night. Enjoy a long lunch al fresco, peaceful morning tea or coffee from multiple seating areas, or an afternoon nap in the hammock under the oaks. The outdoor living room is perfect for happy hour with friends, sunset viewing, or serene meditation and yoga. A path loops throughout the natural native plant covered property for lovely meandering walks and there is great hiking right out the door as well as nearby in Topanga State Park.

This is a large 2 story home with three upstairs bedrooms. The master bedroom has a California King Bed and looks out into the Oaks with huge windows that make you feel like you are up in a treehouse. The second and third bedrooms have comfortable queen and double size beds and are spacious and light, with views from every window. Frameless futon, 2 couches, and an outside daybed and futon also available if there are more in your party. There is a large full bathroom upstairs with separate large tiled shower and tub, sink, toilet, and Finnish Sauna. Downstairs is a second bathroom with sink and toilet. In addition, the large romantic master bedroom has an en suite clawfoot bathtub! The outdoor hot tub and authentic Finnish wood sauna contribute to the possibility for total relaxation.

This rustic modern house features clean lines with wood floors, navajo rugs, high ceilings and an open great room with living room, sitting room, dining room and kitchen. It is light bright and airy with large windows and glass paned doors throughout the house. Living room includes library filled with many books, large flat screen smart tv, and stereo system with iPod adaptor as well as a record player along with a varied selection of vinyl albums. Moderate sized but very functional and bright kitchen includes stainless steel appliances, dishwasher, All Clad stainless cookware, blender, toaster, multiple appliances, and purified water system. Includes everything you need to prepare wonderful meals and entertain. Stock up at our local Farmer’s Market on Fridays and pick fresh herbs for cooking right from the garden.

High speed wifi, smart tv (no cable but netflix, amazon, hulu, etc. included for multiple viewing options), plenty of parking and a laundry room. Hair dryer, ironing board, linens, and towels provided.

Guest access

The house will be ready and open with the keys in a specified location. Come in and make yourself at home! Guest have access to entire house except the garage.

Interaction with guests

We are available if you need us, but we like to leave you with a detailed house manual so you can really feel like you are at your home away from home. We will leave you a thorough list with our favorite recommendations and ideas for food and fun and you are more than welcome to ask us for anything from restaurant suggestions to tourist destinations. We have lived in the Malibu/Topanga area for over 30 years and have lots of knowledge of all that the area has to offer!

The neighborhood

Topanga is known as a bohemian enclave attracting artists, musicians, filmmakers, and others. Numerous music festivals have been organized in the canyon, including the Topanga Days Festival and Topanga Earth Day. The Topanga Film Institute hosts the annual Topanga Film Festival. This quiet family neighborhood is safe and sound with all you will need very close by. Only minutes to world renowned surfing in Malibu and shopping in Santa Monica. Fabulous hiking right out the door and miles and miles of trails in our very own 10,000 acre Topanga State Park within the Santa Monica Mountains, one of the largest open space preserves surrounded by a city in the world. Topanga is a charming community that feels like a mountain village with horse riding facilities, theater, yoga, eclectic boutiques, health conscious restaurants and local bars, artist studios, seasonal festivals, and docent-led nature walks all available right here in the canyon. Close by are surf lessons, kite and stand up paddle boarding, miles of beaches and bike paths, shopping, sightseeing, the Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade, Venice Beach, Malibu and the Pacific Palisades. Universal Studios, the Hollywood Strip, downtown LA, and more great restaurants and LA destinations are all just a short drive away.

Getting around

Los Angeles is a city where having a car will give you many more options. We suggest renting one from the airport and using GPS. There is tons to explore! In addition, don't miss out on the great hiking here in Topanga as well as mountain biking, available for rental here at our local bike shop or renting a cruiser down at Venice boardwalk.

Other things to note

Up here in the hills, cell phones often do not work. However, we do have an AT&T signal booster that helps some cell phones come in depending on your carrier, and wifi can also be used to connect on your phone via text message and to make calls over wifi calling. calls over the computer also work well. Enjoy the opportunity for peace and quiet.

The property is shared with another small guest house. They do not have access to the house, decks, hot tub or most of the property. Laundry room is shared. Your paths might cross in the driveway but most likely you won't see each other.

A dog lives on this property when not rented so please note that the house may not be suitable for those with pet allergies.
