About this property
Dog friendly holiday home for 4 people, breath taking scenery, WiFi & only a short walk to the pub.
5 Swallowholm Cottage is surrounded by breath taking scenery and is a fabulous holiday home for families and couples situated in a small rural hamlet in Arkengarthdale only 4 miles from the popular village of Reeth in Swaledale.
This holiday home, which was formally a miner’s cottage, is in a peaceful spot and offers unusual upside-down accommodation to optimise the view over the local farmland and fells of what is known locally as The Stang.
This Dales cottage dates back to the 1800’s, is grade II listed, and is approached via a short farm track about 100 metres from the main road. The upstairs living area is open plan split between a spacious kitchen dining area with traditional farmhouse style kitchen and a living room which offers comfortable seating for 4 people in front of the modern wood burning stove. The open plan layout allows for a social evening retelling the events of the day exploring the Yorkshire Dales.
Downstairs there is a double bedroom with built in wardrobe and a spacious twin bedroom. There is a family bathroom with shower over and heated towel rail. There is also a handy under stair cupboard which stores items such as hoovers and a great place to store suitcases once you have unpacked. The cottage is heated throughout by contemporary, powerful and energy efficient electric radiators.
This holiday cottage is ideal for exploring the northern fells and villages of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the surrounding areas of Barnard Castle, Durham and the North East Lake District. There are many walks straight from the door, including a fantastic circular walk up Fremington Edge to Reeth and back along the Arkle Beck to Langthwaite. Cycling is also very popular with many mountain bike trails to explore. Road cycling is fantastic fun too with many tough climbs and lots of cafes for cake and coffee to refuel!
Down the road from the cottage is The CB Inn which is an enormously popular pub with both locals and those visiting the area. The CB Inn serves fabulous gastro meals, has a host of fine ales on tap and an extensive wine list. A bit further away, but still within walking distance is The Red Lion. The Red Lion is certainly worth a visit as it is very unique, small and run by the same land lady for many decades…she is a real Dales character and a fountain of knowledge on all things to do in Swaledale and the Dales.
What’s more, 5 Swallowholm Cottage is dog friendly, up to two well behaved dogs are welcome.
Electricity, initial supply of fuel for the wood burning stove, towels, bed and kitchen linen are included in the rental charge.
