About this property

Cosy Peak District Cottage

Beautiful 1850s detached stone cottage, five minutes walk to two local pubs and community shop, countryside views from the garden, easily accessible to lovely footpaths and cycle routes. Sleeps 4/5. We love staying in our cottage in Winster as it is such a relaxing place to be and have furnished it to be comfortable and inviting. Well behaved pets are welcome - at no extra charge. There is so much to do in this area - Chatsworth, Bakewell, Matlock, Heights of Abraham to name but a few before you even start exploring the exciting countryside around - the White Peak (where Winster is) and the easily accessible Dark Peak. We have enjoyed numerous country walks and cycles - particularly along the fabulous off-road cycle trails that Derbyshire has to offer - the High Peak Trail and Tissington Trail are very near to Winster. It is also only 45 minutes drive to Alton Towers so easily accessible for a day out!
The cottage has no parking but the road outside is very quiet so you can stop outside to unload but then you will need drive to find a space in the village and park on the road.

Lovely cottage in beautiful village
We really enjoyed our stay in the lovely village of Winster. The village is small but has a an excellent community run shop and two pubs. The cottage itself was exactly what we needed with two t(w)eenage boys. The beds were very comfy and the bathroom was spacious and very clean. The kitchen well equipped and again very clean. It even had a Nespresso machine - perfect for us coffee addicts! There is a separate dining room as well as the living room. Unfortunately, mobile signal and TV signal is not great in the village so not many channels but there is WiFi so you can connect your phone that way. The only slight downside to the property is the outdoor space which is small and on a slope. There is a decked area with table and chairs but it’s not currently very inviting. Having said that, the best thing about the Peak District is that you can get out in the countryside so we did not spend too long in the garden anyway. Tom, the owner was extremely helpful with tips on cycling routes and the local area and the cottage has a number of maps to help you plan your adventures!

Lovely little property
Lots of space upstairs, not as much down, but enough for all of us and two cats. Parking can be a bit of a walk away, but it all adds to the charm.

Home away from home
Quaint cottage with bags if character, deceptively roomy. Every stage of the booking was easy and stress free. And the people in the village are all so lovely and helpful too 😁

Hi - we came to Winster as a family about ten years ago and all fell in love with the place. We then visited a further eleven times before finally admitting that we were smitten and that to own a little slice of paradise was what we had to do.
We have only just bought the cottage and although we have lots of plans to upgrade the property they are mainly cosmetic and don't detract from the overall convenience and homeliness of both the cottage and the village.
We are sure that you will love staying here and exploring the quaint little alleyways and routes around the village as well as the myriad of footpaths which take you from village to village before finally returning home for a nice pot of tea, dinner in one of the local pubs perhaps and then back for a refreshing night's sleep.
