The accommodation offers you a high end luxury and alternative stay.

Walking through the church doors you are met with a spacious, cleverly designed, open plan layout. The ground floor offers two seating areas, a well-equipped, modern kitchen, dining area and downstairs shower room. You will notice many of the original features have been kept in the building, from stained glass windows to plaques and beams, simply wonderful. Upstairs follows an unconventional and unique design of glass walls centring the church. There are two en-suite kingsize bedrooms and a further two double bedrooms sharing a family bathroom.

St Margaret’s Church is located just off the main high street in the village, making it an easy walk to access the shops, restaurants and pubs Bentham has to offer. There are some fabulous walks to be enjoyed straight from the front door. If, however, you plan to do some more adventurous hiking, then Ingleton is just 3 miles away and the three peaks of Whernside, Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough, and the lakeland hills are all easily accessed.

There is so much to do in this area from cycling, caving, hiking and golfing! Just 10 miles away in the neighbouring town of Kirkby Lonsdale. This quirky market town is surrounded by historic buildings, many of them hundreds of years old, that line the town’s streets and squares include a range of cafés, pubs, and independent shops, which combine to provide a traditional shopping experience that’s hard to find on the modern British high street.

St Margaret’s Church is the perfect base from which to explore southern and central Cumbria, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Forest of Bowland and Lancashire, with lots to do locally and plenty of excellent days out.

Stunning and unique holiday cottage - we really enjoyed our week stay here and hope to return.

Stunning and unique holiday cottage - we really enjoyed our week stay here and hope to return. There were only 5 of us staying but the property really is very spacious and the downstairs has been beautifully designed making the most of the features of the church and dividing the living space into 2 with tvs on both sides and seating areas. The upstairs master bedroom is stunning and has a great spa bath which we enjoyed, a second en-suite bedroom and then 2 double rooms with a bathroom with shower. The double rooms are a little on the small size but perfectly adequate and given that the downstairs is so spacious it wasn’t an issue for us. There is also ample storage space in all the bedrooms for clothes which many holiday cottages fall short on. Our children were very grateful for the rotating pool table/air hockey table and the ability to play table tennis on the kitchen table so this is a real plus especially if the weather isn’t great. There is also a well stocked cupboard of games and books - we didn’t use these but great that the owners provide. The kitchen was extremely well stocked - the only thing we couldn’t find were oven gloves but mentioned this to the changeover company so hopefully this will be sorted but we managed without. Practical things that are great is the fridge and freezer space as you have a full sized fridge and separate full sized freezer in the kitchen and an additional full height fridge in the utility. The utility is very spacious with an additional toilet and shower leading off here. Lots of helpful things like pull out clothes airers and 2 laundry baskets if you are like me and like to keep up with all the washing! I was worried we may be too cold or hot in the converted church but the heating works very well (we needed it on a couple of the days) and the owners provide blankets for use and there is also a great ventilation system to keep the bedrooms cool at night on the sunny days. If you have children there is a multi-use games area just across the road with tennis court/basketball hoop and there is a small skate park as well. High Bentham is easily walkable and you are a close drive to Ingleton. We used Vertical skills in Ingleton for a day of rock climbing at Twistleton scar (and have used them previously for caving) and they are excellent. The church is well placed for lots of popular walks in the area and visits to white scar caves etc so there is plenty to do. And we loved the friendly chickens in the churchyard! The owners were very helpful as provided excellent information prior to our stay and were very responsive to an issue we had with one of the light switches and got this swiftly sorted for us by an electrician. We did struggle at times with the digital light switches and the Alexas - mainly because they went offline briefly etc but we got used to the tech! Overall, an absolutely fantastic and unique place to stay and we would definitely recommend.
