About this property
Award-winning & stylish - Caman House, in the heart of the Cairngorms.
"Great find! Fabulous location and beautifully presented. Highly recommended!"
Apartment 2 is a first floor, light-filled modern renovation in a charming Victorian building. This cosy apartment with aga wood burner sleeps 4. The lounge with its high ceilings has large windows on both sides with views across the rooftops to the hills beyond. The lounge has a modern style with crisp white walls that work as a great backdrop for the striking collection of Scottish artwork.
The house is named after the local sport of shinty, and the stick or ‘caman' that is used to play this traditional highland game, and there's local shinty memorabilia displayed in the hallway.
The large double bedroom is decorated in traditional Highland style, with warm colours, muted tartan wallpaper, antler chandeliers, tweed curtains and oak furniture. There is a smaller twin room, beautifully presented with individual reading lamps - all of our beds and mattresses are of the highest quality to ensure you sleep soundly during your stay. The separate kitchen has a dining table/dining area and is well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, full oven and induction hob, fridge freezer, microwave etc. The spacious shower room has a large shower, wash hand basin, heated towel rail and a wc.
Caman House is right in the centre of Newtonmore and just two minutes walk from great pubs who serve bar meals and local beers, plus cafes just across the road who serve meals all day, an Indian takeaway, and a couple of restaurants – a surprising amount of choice for a wee village right on the doorstep if you don't want to cook!
There's a supply of guidebooks, boardgames and DVDs. TV/DVD player, JBL bluetooth portable speakers and excellent wifi. Electric central heating throughout and logs provided for the woodburner.
There's plenty of roadside parking at the front of the property in a recessed parking bay, or on the Main street. A free public carpark is a 2 minute walk away.
An Asgard 4-bike cycle-storage unit is in the grounds; this can be booked by either guests staying at Apartment 2 or The Bakehouse. Please contact us to check availability and to reserve (free). Once the 4-bike secure store is booked by either party, it is then for their exclusive use only.
This unique and charming apartment is Visit Scotland 4 star rated, and will exceed your expectations for size, character and comfort. Part of an exclusive tiny portfolio that recently won the prestigious Highlands & Islands Best Self Catered Accommodation Award.
1 well-behaved dog welcome (please note that as this is a 1st floor apartment there is no garden - there is excellent dogwalking straight from the door locally). Please let us know when booking if you are bringing a dog.
Newtonmore has a well-stocked Co-op supermarket (open daily 7am til 10pm). There is also a post office, pharmacy, barbers, Tweed shop, gift shop, two or three pubs or hotel bars that serve good food, 2 or 3 lovely cafes, an all-day Grill, a petrol station (with convenience store) a takeaway and a restaurant. 3 cashpoints (village hall, co-op and petrol station).
