Town: Ullswater is generally considered to encompass three major villages. This includes Glenridding at the south and Pooley Bridge at the north. The second largest lake, at approximately 7.5 miles wide, Ullswater is often regarded as the most beautiful lake in the district. There is dramatic mountain scenery to the south, as well as the gentle hills of the north. This region is popular among walkers, climbers and cyclists of all levels of ability. There are various water sports for all abilities too and lots of family activities. Along with historical sites of interest, Ullswater has a strong nautical history, having been a popular sailing destination for centuries. There are marinas placed all around the lake. Plus a wide range of superb eateries and shops, sure to delight!
Also, on the west side of the lake is the beautiful Aira Force Waterfall. It is one of the National Park’s most popular natural tourist attractions. Glenridding is a particularly popular tourist attraction with mountain walkers. They visit the village to scale England’s third highest peak, Helvellyn.
