About this property

MILL COTTAGE, HARTSOP, a cosy bijou hide-away surrounded by mountains

Are you looking for a cosy cottage in a quiet secluded place for the two of you? Are you looking for a place to chill out and let the world go by? Do you fancy a relaxed evening in front of a log fire, reading a book or watching the TV in a quaint setting? Well, you have just discovered the place you are looking for. Mill Cottage has old-world rustic charm, with exposed beams, pitched rafters, hardwood floors and doors, with the natural beauty of wood being a prominent feature. Comfortably furnished and well equipped, the cottage is loved by our guests, testament to which are the glowing comments in our guest book.

Mill Cottage is located in the Hartsop conservation area at the heart of the Lake District, amongst high mountains, close to Patterdale, Glenridding and Ullswater, as well as Ambleside and Windermere. This 2-bedroom (3-person) self catering holiday cottage is at the bottom of the Kirkstone Pass and well placed for walking many Wainwright peaks, exploring the Lakeland valleys, and engaging in water sports. Mill Cottage provides spacious, comfortable and well-equipped accommodation of a high standard in an old Grade II listed building, in which exposed beams, pitched rafters and wooden floors feature prominently. With a beckside location in outstanding countryside, the cottage has the main living rooms on the first floor to take full advantage of the extensive and magnificent views.

The south-facing patio, overlooking open countryside towards Brotherswater and Dovedale, commands a lovely sunny and sheltered position, an ideal location for those refreshing drinks after a day on the fells. The sound of running water from the beck, and the seclusion of the garden will encourage relaxation and the on-set of holiday-mode.

Awarded 4-Stars and Gold Award (from Visit England) and a Certificate of Excellence (Trip Advisor), the cottage is comfortably furnished, and well equipped. According to our guests, it is more spacious than expected for a 2 bedroom cottage. The main room, kitchen and a bathroom are on the first floor to take advantage of thr panoramic views, and being open to the rafters and having roof windows, gives the place a sense of light and openness. The bedrooms have hardwood floors, and the entrance hall a Westmorland slate floor. A wood-burner offers a cosy atmosphere at cooler times. If you like a place of rustic character and old-world charm, this is the cottage you are looking for, having exposed beams, pitched rafters, oak and ash hardwood floors, ash doors, as well as a pitch-pine staircase.

There is a gated area at the front of the cottage for free parking. The cottage is in the small hamlet of Hartsop, amongst the fells which are accessible from the front door, allowing your car to be left behind. If you are a walker, then the cottage couldn't be better located, as the fells start at the doorstep..

Hartsop is a small hamlet located at the foot of the Kirkstone Pass, two miles south of Patterdale and three miles south of Glenridding. Ullswater is in walking distance. The steamer service on Ullswater, to Aira Force, Howtown and Pooley Bridge, is easily accessible from the cottage.

The cottage is in a good location for guests wishing to visit places such as Windermere, Ambleside and Kendal in the South Lakes, as well as Keswick, Penrith and Cockermouth in the North Lakes area. Also, a selection of shops, pubs, hotels and restaurants are located within 3 miles of the cottage.

Please note that only 7 night weekly bookings, starting on Fridays, are available. You are very welcome!
