About this property
Rookery Nook, spacious & pet friendly - wifi, gardens, parking, sleeps 3
ROOKERY NOOK DISS: sleeps up to 3 people in a spacious light and airy south facing single storey property. For a one bedroom property it feels particularly spacious and is Tardis like (so guests tell us). You will see from the photo gallery that the gardens are a big feature and very much enjoyed, and commented on by our guests. The garden and patio are completely private, and guests have their own allocated parking space and private gate and entrance.
Please note we have recently added a z-bed in the living room for a 3 guest, which is best suited to an occasional/visitor rather than long term, and/or use by a young person.
Rookery Nook is ideally located for those who wish to explore East Anglia. Providing private entrance, lounge/dining room with patio doors onto patio & garden, fully equipped kitchen, lounge/dining room, double bedroom (king size bed or twin beds) and loo/shower room, driveway parking, garden with built in BBQ.
Situated on the edge of the pretty market town of Diss (15-20 minute walk). Many towns claim to be 'historic market towns', but there has been a market in the centre of Diss, for well over 500 years. The town was established around one of the deepest natural inland lakes in the country, known as Diss Mere and is 6 acres in size. The town centre comprises some excellent examples of Georgian and Edwardian buildings, the Mere and a number of thriving shopping streets, historic and quaint shopping yards. The market operates every Friday on the same day as the auctions of T.W.Gaze (as seen on several BBC antiques TV shows).
For guests seeking food or drinks away from the home, there are many eateries and local inns within a few minutes’ drive as well as a variety of take aways, cafes, shops and three supermarkets (Tesco, Morrison, Aldi) about 1 mile away.
Within driving distance there are plenty of gardens, historic houses, activities, interesting towns & cities, coastal areas, bird watching to visit ….you name it we’ll try and say yes! The location is great with an easy road network to explore the wealth of delights that both Norfolk and Suffolk have to offer. Both have wonderful coastlines with plenty of lovely sandy beaches to explore. Southwold is a traditional seaside town with a pier, lighthouse and glorious promenade of colourful beach huts. Many RSPB reserves and SSSI sites can be found wrapped around the Norfolk and Suffolk Heritage Coastline. The Norfolk Broads National Park offers waterside fun, daily boat hire, river trips and plenty of waterside cafés and restaurants. The Medieval city of Norwich has its castle museum, cathedral, two indoor shopping malls, outdoor market square, galleries, and plenty of restaurants nearby.
BRINGING DOGS: We welcome guests with well trained dogs, but we are not a pet hotel! Please advise us in advance if you are bringing a pet, and be sure to read our pet policy on our website holidaycottagediss.com so that you bring with you the items you need. With regards the garden, it is designed for the enjoyment of all, it is not a dog run! It has waist high picket fence on two sides, and a 5ft hedge on the third. However we can’t guarantee your dog won’t get out - for instance a very determined Jack Russell might wheedle it’s way through the hedge, or a large Alsatian who spots a cat might jump the fence! Should you decide to let your dogs off the lead in the garden the responsibility for their safety is yours. We advise you study the photos well in advance and read the reviews to make your own decision. However be assured we’ve welcomed guests with dogs for many years and many return, and we hope that you too will enjoy your time here with your dog.
Electric vehicles: please note that we do NOT have facilities for charging electric vehicles. There are local charging points in town.

About the host
Hosted by Carol & Phil

We are Carol & Phil, and we have been welcoming guests to Rookery Nook for several years. We’ve made new friends and we welcome guests back time and again, from near (eg just 25 miles) and far (eg Australia & USA). We leave guests to make themselves at home in their own time, and then at a suitable moment will introduce ourselves. But please be assured you will be left free to enjoy Rookery Nook without interference - unless you ask for assistance. However, if you bring a dog Carol may well need a doggy cuddle!!!
Why they chose this property
Rookery Nook is attached to our home, Magpie Lodge. It is NOT subsidiary as it is at the front of the whole property and actually higher than our home, so you do NOT feel as if you’re in the outhouse at the back!!! The main living area of Rookery Nook has triple aspect windows giving great views of this lovely rural location. And yet you’re only a few minutes drive/walk into Diss.
What makes this property unique
It’s all about location! There are no other properties within view, Rookery Nook feels rural whilst being just minutes from the centre of Diss, the railway station and roads taking you to all parts of East Anglia. The perfect central point from which to explore the area whether it be forests, market towns, visitor attractions, cities, coast, Norfolk Broads…there is lots to see and do. Go north up to Sandringham, Blakeney, Sherringham, Cromer. Go East to Southwold, Aldeburgh, Gt Yarmouth, Lowestoft. Go south into beautiful Suffolk for Lavenham, Bury St Edmunds, Sudbury, Hadleigh. Or West to Cambridge, Newmarket and beyond. Take the train to London for a day trip - it’s all doable from Rookery Nook.
