About this property

Private 2,000 Sq Ft Cottage in Historic Yorktown (at Yorktown Cottages)

UNIQUE PRIVATE COTTAGE:

Welcome to Yorktown Cottages, where you can enjoy the privacy of an entire cottage for your trip to Historic Yorktown, in walking distance of all Yorktown attractions, and free trolley pick up in front of the cottage (most of the year). You will find no other properties quite like Yorktown Cottages in the historic district. Our cottages are among very few properties that do not require owners onsite or adjacent to the property, so it is truly a private rental experience.

LATEST UPGRADES: Enhanced Cable TV package and WiFi, air purifiers, lighting upgrades, contactless entry, new SHOWER (March 2023), kitchen appliances (Jan 2024).

This cottage uniquely offers much privacy for this destination, but the owners are nearby should you need them during your stay. There are no shared spaces with other travelers. Yorktown Cottages are the last "tourist homes" to be approved in Yorktown to allow operation without the owners co-located onsite during your stay, thus we offer a unique private home experience, close to everything.

With 2000 sq ft of private rental space, this "cottage" is a wonderful value and will exceed your lodging expectations.

This cottage offers 2 BR, 2BA, a full kitchen, dining area / den, great room with fireplace, and laundry room with washer & dryer. Linens are provided, and there is ample parking. The French doors in the great room open to your own private garden.
Please come and experience Yorktown by immersing yourself in the heart of the Historic Village.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS:
The cottage is surrounded by U.S. National Park Service land, including the Yorktown Battlefields where George Washington secured America’s independence in 1781.

This lovely immaculate cottage is a short 1-block walk to Main Street, and a 2-block walk to the Yorktown Beach and all Historic Yorktown waterfront attractions.

Dine at the local restaurants and pubs, shop on the boardwalk, visit the museums, grab an ice cream cone, and stroll through history and its 18th century architecture.

Take a stroll to Riverwalk Landing or to the sandy beach at the edge of the York River and the Chesapeake Bay. You can even take a tall ship sailing cruise, bike miles of scenic historic trails or the Colonial Parkway, or hike or fly a kite on the battlefields. The Riverwalk area has many seasonal attractions that bring people to the waterfront every weekend. There is music, and oftentimes wineries / breweries at the events, plus a fresh farmers market on Saturdays. This location is also a stop for the Yorktown Trolley that will take you to both the Victory Center and Visitor Center, and other Village locations. (Check the Visit Yorktown website trolley schedule.)

COLONIAL PARKWAY AND HISTORIC TRIANGLE:
The Colonial Parkway that connects the Historic Triangle (Williamsburg-Jamestown-Yorktown) is accessible less than ¼ mile from the cottage. As you venture out into the Historic Triangle, return home along the scenic riverfront Colonial Parkway, and relax in this comfortable and unique cottage.

--Yorktown Village (check the VisitYorktown website for current events in walking distance / trolley ride from the cottage)
--Historic Williamsburg
--Historic Jamestown
--Busch Gardens
--Water Country USA

It is a day trip to Virginia Beach to play at the ocean.

COTTAGE HISTORY:
The cottage is a special place to be. Not only is it perfectly located, it is a true landmark in local history, and a lovely, quaint place to spend your vacation. Formerly the home, studio, and gallery of Nancy Thomas, renowned contemporary folk artist; this is where Nancy Thomas worked and lived for 32 years. We are honored to have the great fortune of owning this piece of Yorktown ‘contemporary history’. Nancy’s work is in the homes of thousands of collectors and often seen in magazines, decorator books, films, on Broadway and on television, as well as at Colonial Williamsburg, The Museum of American Folk Art, and the White House.

Not perfect, but close! : )
Pros: -Wonderful location (loved the area and neighborhood) -Spacious home for a family of 4 -The main living room was wonderful! Tastefully decorated, bright and airy, and the fireplace made it extra cozy! -Clean overall! A clean bathroom is very important! -Great communication with owners -They provided lots of extras (soap, paper towels, ice, etc) Cons: -Shower is very small -Could only fill the bath up about 8 inches before hot water started running out (told owners and they said that was the first time this had been reported and they would check on the water heater. Not their fault but still a bummer) -Lighting in bathrooms was very dim. A counter top makeup light would be nice for applying makeup -A King size bed upstairs would be great! -A full length mirror upstairs would be nice for getting dressed Overall, we had a wonderful time and would recommend this home. Although there were some things that weren't ideal, we would stay here again in the future.

Return Trip
We come here every year as we are able. It is so clean, so well maintained. Since the last time we stayed there were upgrades like a new shower. It has the best bathtub ever in a huge bathroom. The great room has a fireplace that is so enjoyable to sit infront of. We really enjoy coming here over and over. Owners are very responsive. We can't wait to come again.

Great place to stay in Yorktown
My family spent a week at the cottage and really enjoyed our stay. The property was beautiful and had everything we needed for a comfortable week. The biggest plus is how close your are to everything. Just a short walk to the beach and a short drive to Williamsburg. We won't hesitate to book again in the future.

Yorktown is our first choice for raising our family.
Historic Yorktown offers a quaint town for recreational activities, and a perfect location for our eventual retirement plans.

Check out our other vacation property listings #1714751 & #182429.

Why they chose this property

This unique property offers a cottage feel with ~2,000 square feet, and three courtyards with gardens / flowers.

Property in the Historic District is rarely available for purchase, so it was a rare opportunity when the previous resident retired from her Yorktown-based business of over 30 years. We have added several touches throughout the cottages (her former residence and art gallery) that hint to the previous resident and entrepreneur, Ms. Nancy Thomas.

What makes this property unique

--Yorktown Cottages are the last "tourist homes" to be approved in Yorktown to allow operation without the owners co-located onsite, thus we offer a unique private home experience, close to everything.
--Private home without owner occupant on premises
--No shared spaces with other travelers
--In the heart of the Historic District of Yorktown, VA in walking distance to the beach and events!
--Offers proximity to Historic Triangle attractions, with ease of travel between Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown
--Trolley stop across from the property that offers complimentary service around Yorktown's Historic District
--Family-friendly. Children are welcome.
