Come enjoy this brand new 2 bedroom 2 bath retreat in the Carneros region of Sonoma for your wine country escape. Bastide du Lavandin (The Lavender Cottage) combines French country elegance and spaciousness to create a welcoming, light filled home for your wine country stay. Bastide was designed to take advantage of the unique landscape of this property and similar to old style French houses it has exposed wood beams, high ceilings and dormer windows to bring in the exquisite light.
BASTIDE DU LAVANDIN: Bastide has a generous open grand room with 18 foot cathedral ceilings with dormer windows providing light throughout the main room. The modern gourmet kitchen with spacious island, extensive dining room and living room area all mesh together - the perfect place to hang out. All the kitchen appliances are brand new and the island is large enough for a cooking demonstration for your group. Ample cabinet and pantry space leads to the separate laundry room, which has a full sized stand up washer and dryer for your use.
The furniture is contemporary Restoration Hardware designed furniture, which provides a farm house style feel. Both bedrooms, which are on the same side of the house, have a queen-sized bed and the large windows provide great light into each of them. The master bedroom has a large walk in closet and each bathroom has its own walk in shower. (The master also has an outdoor shower for your enjoyment).
With a large stone clad gas fireplace and living area that opens through French doors to the outside area, the space is perfect inside/outside experience. The house has AC throughout.
There is a large Flat screen TV above the fireplace with Netflix access and high speed Wifi as well.
On the back patio, there is a large dining table which seats 8. Nearby is a 3-burner Weber Genesis propane grill for your grilling pleasure. The back area is dominated by the view of a combination hot tub & swimming pool. The pool is mid 70s in the summer but is "refreshing" the rest of the year. Eg NOT heated. At one end of the pool are 2 lounge chairs to tan on and on the other end is a poolside fire pit for your evening enjoyment with your family and friends. Just past the pool is the lawn area that is perfect for a game of cornhole! And in the distance is a view of the south end of the Mayacama range separating Sonoma and Napa Valley. The house sits hidden behind a gated entrance and large oak trees providing privacy from the road. At the end of the meandering driveway is a flat parking area, which has parking for up to 3 cars.
There is an alarm clock w USB charging capability in each bedroom and a multiple USB charging station in the pantry room.

The Bastide is a wonderful property that has everything 4 people would need. The gardens outside are full of flora and fauna, the cottage (house) has everything necessary for fine living. Alan was responsive and reachable for a small issue. I strongly recommend Bastide Lavender for lodging while visiting Sonoma and Napa.
Ideal location to explore both Sonoma and Napa. A relaxed setting to enjoy nature, birds and the wonderful September weather. Loved looking out of the front window in the morning & observing the hummingbirds visit the water fountain. Alfresco dining table was great! The home was well appointed with anything needed for cooking. Having a hot tub and pool to use was the topping on the cake!
Just over an hour from SF airport is this beautiful 2 bedroom on a secluded gated property. Fresh flowers, bird feeders, fruit trees, gorgeous pool with heated spa, outdoor and indoor showers, fully equipped kitchen, gas grill, all close proximity to great restaurants & wineries in Sonoma & Napa. Great time had by all .
Had a wonderful stay ... very beautiful and top-quality home. We especially loved watching the birds outside by the water fountain. Could have sat there all day and was a great way to just relax. Excellent amenities. Everything you could wish for and more! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us!

Glad you had such a relaxing stay! it is amazing to see so many different bird outside bathing in the fountain - my favorites are the real bluebirds! hope to host you again in the future.
We enjoyed this property immensely. It was the perfect size and location and you can tell the owners take pride in this home. Thank you for a wonderful long weekend in wine country.
We had an amazing stay at this wonderful property. Lovely extra touches by the owner. Beautiful property and perfect location for us. It's on the Napa side of Sonoma, so travel to both areas was easy. Just a great property that is very well stocked with supplies and a pleasure to stay at.

Thanks for your comments and glad that you could enjoy both Napa and Sonoma from our property. That is one of the reasons that we ended up building there since we love going tasting and dining in both valleys! Hope to see you again. Alan
An absolutely beautiful home and surroundings afforded us the perfect base for relaxation and visiting the many wineries and restaurants in Sonoma and surrounding areas. Hosts were great with communicating with us and were happy to meet Kim as wee were leaving.
Property was exactly as described and even more beautiful in person. Perfect setting for when you want to get out of the hustle and bustle lifestyle for a little bit. Would absolutely recommend and definitely come back again!
Alan is a kind and conscientious host whose home has a lot of space for hanging out and two comfortable bedrooms. The outdoor spaces are gorgeous and the hot tub and pool were appreciated after a day hiking and tasting wines.

Glad that you had such a good time up at Bastide! Hope to see you sometime again in the future - you were great to work with. Cheers Alan
Just a really thoughtful home on beautiful piece of land in Sonoma. We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the spa at night, gazing up at the stars. Highly recommend!
We loved our visit to Bastide du Lavandin. It was spacious and comfortable and had everything we needed. We took long walks around the lovely neighborhood. The property itself was beautiful and it was only a 10 minute drive to Sonoma Plaza where we ate at some great restaurants. Highly recommend.
What a great place to stay for two couples, it's perfect. The house is exceptional and the location is ideal for visiting Sonoma and Napa. The house has all the amenities you could possibly need. We used the pool and the hot tub every day, the kitchen is extremely well equipped and the bedrooms are quiet and comfortable. We would absolutely stay here again and suggest anyone reading this review book it too.
A little slice of France in Sonoma County. Le Bastide is a fabulous property: modern yet very welcoming. My wife and I stayed for a week and loved it. We will be back!

This was our second time here and we just love it! The house is beautiful and the property is gorgeous with gardens throughout. There were fresh tulips in a vase on the table which came from the garden! We took advantage of the carrots left in the fridge to feed the neighbors horses !

Hi Mary, Glad that you had a great time. We love being close to the Sonoma square for a nice meal now and then but also being out in the country just walking our dogs past the horses in the field. Hope to host you again in the future.
The property was stunning. Felt in the country side yet so close to everything we wanted. The hosts were so generous to us with fresh eggs and food for some horses down the street. It was the house we stayed in while getting married and it was absolutely magical. We loved the natural wildlife as well. Jack rabbits and bird songs all the time. We will absolutely be back every year to celebrate!
The home is located in a quiet rural area just outside of town. The home sits on a beautifully landscaped property. The interior of the home is clean, well stocked, wonderfully decorated and very cozy. Owners were very exceptional to work with as well.
WOW!! This is by far the best VRBO we’ve ever rented. There was not one detail overlooked from the fresh eggs and honey to the breath taking landscape that takes you back to the south of France. The location was great and very private. We can’t wait to come back.
This was the perfect home and location for our stay!! We loved every minute at the house! It was very cozy and beautiful and roomy! The views out of all the windows are beautiful!! We had fresh flowers on our arrival and owners were very kind and thoughtful! Thanks for sharing your home!
Home was beautiful and well equipped. Everything we could have asked for and more. We had great days at the wineries and relaxing evenings back at the house. Thank you for everything.
This house was perfect!! The cleanliness was impeccable, beds are comfortable, the linens were higher-end than I’ve seen in most rentals, the kitchen was well stocked, glassware was plentiful and knives were sharp! The landscaping and outdoor area is stunning. The host communication is excellent. I cannot recommend this property enough and look forward to visiting again.

About the host
Hosted by Alan K Brune
We live down in Southern Marin but love to go up to Sonoma for trips to the Sonoma Plaza shops and restaurants and of course the wineries!
Why they chose this property
We bought this property in 2015 and then spent the next two years designing and building our summer house. We love the numerous oak trees on the property and the feeling of seclusion when we are there.
What makes this property unique
My wife has always loved the French countryside so we designed this property to give you a feeling of being on a terrace somewhere in Provence. From the lavender plants around the property, to the high ceilings to the steep roof with dormer windows, this is our version of a little bit of France in Sonoma.
