The Captains Quarters was nicer and roomer than pictured. Well maintained and furnished. I would highly recommend this property and would not hesitate staying here again. Thanks we had a great time!
We enjoyed our stay at this spacious rental. Rick was an excellent host. We even received eggs from the chickens one evening! The location was perfect for exploring from the mid coast to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. There is a lot to see and there are many trails to walk.
We enjoyed our stay overall. The kitchen was well equiped and the place had a nice deck with grill. It is a short 1/2 block walk to a lovely farm stand and a quick drive to numerous state parks with scenic vistas and numerous villages. Our only issue was with the cleanliness of the carpets when we arrived (quite a bit of dog hair from the previous occupant which triggered my wife's asthma), but the owners were able to rectify within 48 hours.

Rex and Cynthia, Once again we are so sorry about the dog hair issue. However, we are pleased that the trip was not ruined because of it!

There was confusion as to which one it was but eventually got straightened out. Enjoyed the downstairs much better..it would have been nice to have dish soap to clean up with..other than that good location for what we were doing.
A lovely stay, even when things didn't go as planned
The whole place was clean, airy, and well stocked. I appreciated the little extras like disposable razors (because, of course, I forgot mine) and a wooden shower seat. The outside is beautifully kept with flower boxes, trellis, and potted plants. The night sky is perfect for viewing here, too, because there's no light pollution whatsoever.
If you're a night owl like me, though, bring a sleep mask because the bedroom doors are glass and the living room gets a lot of mornjng light. Generally it's a very quiet area so sleeping in is no problem.
And therein was my only problem with my stay. A few days in I was woken to powertools being used on the other side of the wall. The host was in the process of adding to the building, which I didn't know about and he wasn't aware would be loud at all. Host was very helpful, though, pausing the work right away, and immediately refunded my stay for the affected days and offered to find me other accommodation. That turned this into just a bump in my vacation. I understand these things happen, but the way he handled it made me happy to stay for the rest of my time and still rave about my time there.
Also note that I was traveling with my Shiba Inu and he loved this place! Very peaceful and quiet with lots of trails to walk nearby. This was my first time staying with him away from home and it was the perfect choice.

Thanks for the nice review, sorry about the unforeseen noise. The work was supposed to have been completed the week before when we had no guests.
We had a very nice stay in Searsport, ME. The location was perfect for the things we wanted to do, and host Rick provided multiple suggestions--such as where to get the best fresh lobster and well as local museums, restaurants, best coffeehouses, state parks, and a local indoor farmer's market--that really made our stay special.
The unit is quite large and the kitchen was well equipped for the light cooking we did. We especially appreciated the nut crackers and piques, which were a big help when we had dinner at Youngs Lobster Pound in Belfast.
The only reason we marked the "Overall Rating" as a 4 rather than a 5 is because the building is very old and the ground floor unit has a strong musty smell. Once we were inside for a few minutes, we got used to the odor but it kind of hit us each time we entered the building. Also, we are not large people, but we found the king-sized bed to be very uncomfortable. It either needs more support down the middle or the mattress/box springs need replacing. Finally, our only other nit is that the listing mentions a flat screen TV and while one does exist, it's a Roku TV, not cable or satellite TV. We don't have a Roku account so we don't really know how that service works, but the Olympics were going on during our stay and we were unable to watch much of it.
Overall, however, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this Vrbo.
The unit is in the back of a house off highway 1 a miles south of Sealsport. The driveway is hard to recognize, particuarly at night. There is ample space in the unit including a large kitchen/eat in breakfast room, a living room and a separate bedroom. The bathroom is behind the bedroom and also large. Hot water was available. The bathroom door wouldn't stay closed without a stopper and there were areas in need of cleaning. Overall a comfortable place, but not fancy.
Location was great you can go up and down the coast. Getting in and out of the shower is difficult for older people it is very high step possible accident. Wife says it is very musky in the apartment she burnt candles and air fresheners. We liked the deck but had to go buy gas for the grille this didn't seem right to us. We had a great vacation though loved Maine and like I said location was central for going both ways along the coast.
The apartment had plenty of room. Bed was very comfortable. Living area comfortable. Good supply of linens. Nice deck, and parking was easy. Property located directly on route 1.
Am a traveling nurse stayed in the down stairs apartment for a contract of 3 months at the local hospital. Was very convenient to my job. Also close to Belfast and Searsport. Convenient to Moose point state park for my daily walks. Convenient to all local amenities.
The property was centrally located for doing things up and down the coast. It was comfortable and I had everything I needed to relax after exploring all day!
Property was as described. Nicely appointed kitchen. Perfect size for 2. The location was great for seeing some of the central coastal towns and an easy drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor. A bit of road noise , but on the outskirts of the city, which was nice. Would definitely stay again. Owners were quick to respond if needed.
Very sufficient and comfortable. Wonderful king bed that was very close to ours so that we slept well. Since this is right on Route 1, there was a lot of traffic noise but it was not a show stopper for us. We could not figure out the tv since we do not have cable ourselves. Some instructions would have been useful but again that did not really bother us. Overall, this was an excellent stay and we appreciated staying here.
We enjoyed our stay. The property is located on a Main Street, but the traffic did not effect the charm of the cottage. It was true to the description. Two recommendations would be to add screens to the windows, so you can enjoy the lovely Maine air and a dresser in the bedroom for those who stay for any length of time.
The apartment was spacious and well-furnished with a private deck. There was plenty of room for the dogs, and it’s close to parks for walking/hiking as well as near a sandy beach that welcomes dogs.
The owners are very responsive both while renting the property and responding to any questions while we were there. The apartment is well equipped, especially the kitchen which was most appreciated. Very comfortable bed. It is within easy driving or biking distance of Belfast and not too far from Bar Harbor. We had spent time in Bar Harbor prior to staying in Waldo county and it was nice to escape the other tourist and be able to enjoy mid coast Maine. The lack of natural lighting was missed but the porch is very comfortable.

About the host
Hosted by Rick De Coyte
Your hosts - Rick, Sabrina and Violet - love welcoming guests to this beautiful stretch of the Maine Coast! Previous owners of the Yardarm Motel in Searsport, our family recently purchased this property and are working to make it our own. We are all lovers of the arts, travel, and animals. You'll meet our friendly chickens and goats on the property and maybe our dog, Nya. Rick runs a fine art print studio (soon to be located on the property) and is happy to provide tips on great places to paint or photograph along the coast! Violet will be entering 8th grade at Searsport District Middle and High School in the fall and Sabrina teaches in the Honors College at the University of Maine. Please reach out if we can help to answer questions about the area!
Why they chose this property
Living in the Searsport and Belfast area of Midcoast Maine is a true gem. The stunning coastline is right at your doorstep, with Penobscot Bay offering endless opportunities for water activities and gorgeous views. Strolling along the waterfront in Belfast, you'll feel a strong sense of community and a laid-back vibe that's hard to find elsewhere.
One of my favorite things about this area is the thriving local food scene. From fresh seafood at Young's Lobster Pound in Belfast to the delightful restaurats in Searsport, there's always a delicious meal to enjoy. The weekly farmers' markets in Belfast (Friday and Saturday) are a must-visit, showcasing the best of local produce and artisanal goods.
The rich history of the region is also captivating, with Searsport's Penobscot Marine Museum telling the story of Maine's maritime heritage. Staying here, you'll have the chance to immerse yourself in the fascinating past while being part of a vibrant, modern community.
We love the easy access to outdoor adventures, from hiking in the nearby state parks to exploring the many coastal islands. And with Belfast's thriving arts scene, including the annual Arts in the Park festival, the Colonial Theatre for movies, Belfast Maskers for live theatre, and bands at Marshall Wharf, there's never a dull moment.
Living in Searsport and Belfast means embracing a simpler, more connected way of life, surrounded by natural beauty and a warm, welcoming community. Come visit and see what we enjoy year round!
What makes this property unique
We know travel is expensive. And reasonably priced options along the coast are becoming harder and harder to find. We try to keep our rates low, while providing a great home base for your time exploring Midcoast Maine. We are locals - not absentee landlords. Our housekeeper is the mom of our daughter's best friend. Rick runs a business in the community; Sabrina serves on the school board. If you want to truly support the local economy while also enjoying a great value stay in a fabulous location - we should be your top choice!
