Tar is a charming village in the Istria region of Croatia that offers an authentic experience away from the more touristy spots. Its historic old town is a delight to explore, with narrow streets, stone houses, and a relaxed atmosphere. As you stroll through, you might come across local cafes, shops, and unique architecture.
One of Tar’s landmarks is the Church of St. Martin, a historical gem worth visiting. If open, step inside to admire its architecture and artwork.
Food lovers will appreciate Tar’s connection to Istrian cuisine. Indulge in local specialties like truffles, olive oil, and seafood at nearby restaurants or taverns, paired with a local Istrian wine.
For outdoor enthusiasts, Tar is surrounded by beautiful landscapes, perfect for cycling or walking. Rent a bike or enjoy scenic trails through the picturesque countryside and coastline.
Although inland, Tar is close to several beaches in coastal towns like Poreč and Novigrad, where you can relax or enjoy water sports along the Adriatic Sea.
Using Tar as a base, you can also explore nearby towns. Poreč features the UNESCO-listed Euphrasian Basilica, while Novigrad offers its own historic charm.
To deepen your experience, check for local festivals or cultural events during your visit. From music festivals to food fairs and traditional celebrations, Istria’s rich cultural heritage often takes center stage.
