About this property

Historic Elizabethan house very close to the beach

Located among the quaint old streets of East Looe, Lantau Cottage is an immaculately presented Elizabethan house dating back over 400 years. The house is close to the beach and harbour as well as the town's many cafes, restaurants and pubs. It is very well equipped for modern-day living yet steeped in a rich history with many original features including beamed and gabled ceilings and offers discerning guests a flavour of days long gone. The house has the benefit of wifi internet access.

With quality furniture and soft furnishings throughout, guests will appreciate the attention to detail. The house is normally let from Saturday to Saturday during the peak season but we offer long weekend breaks during other times. The house is ideally situated just a few paces from East Looe’s sandy beach, historic harbour and many cafes, bars and restaurants. It is a no-smoking property and we regret that we can't take pets or support animals.

Joining instructions are usually sent out 2 - 3 weeks before arrival. Guests can normally access the house from 5.00 pm on the first day, although we will our best to get you in well before this. We ask that your accommodation be vacated by 9.00 am on the day of departure. Unfortunately, our cleaning company dictates these times, although we will do our very best to extend these.

We're based locally and never far away.

This coastal location in South-East Cornwall is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and is a perfect escape from the urban hustle & bustle. Looe itself is divided by the river and the old town has a maze of alleyways and back streets to explore as well as the banjo pier and sandy beach. Looe has all sorts of galleries and shops and there are numerous restaurants, pubs and cafes too. The harbour is the perfect place to watch the world go by and Looe is a thriving fishing town. Further afield, explore the picturesque village of Polperro whose tiny harbour was once a hub for brandy and tobacco smuggling. Or take a walk along the coastal path and enjoy the spectacular Cornish scenery. Looe is a great base from which to explore Cornwall and nearby you will find the Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and Restormel Castle.

The house has the benefit of allocated parking for two cars (one space is in the Beachside carpark at the end of the street, the other is an allocated space in the Millpool carpark which is 7 - 8 minutes away on foot). Guests are welcome to drive to the top of Higher Chapel Street, just a few yards from the entrance, to unload and load etc.

Wonderful location, cottage full of character.

Wonderful stay. Small double beds made sleeping difficult. Great location very close to beach and shops. Would 100% come again if beds could be bigger.

Fantastic Cottage

We loved this cottage. So well equipped, so comfortable, so close to the beach and with an enchanting history! What a treat to stay in such a great place. The highlight was over-hearing a guided walking tour group stop outside and explain the history and the ship's mast. I felt hugely privileged to be staying in the cottage.

Lovely holiday

Once again we enjoyed a lovely holiday as a family spanning three generations! The property is excellently located being of equal distance to the beach and harbour, both only a short walk away. The cottage itself has absolutely everything you need including a new kitchen which is a real plus. All in all, a really lovely holiday was had by all !

Great historical property.

Situated in the heart of East Looe, the property has been tastefully decorated and is well looked after. Kitchen has just been refitted. Would not hesitate to recommend & hope to visit again in the future.

Awesome location

Easy check in process. Great communication with owner (Who actually send back belongings left behind at the house). Near the ocean and shops and crab fishing and fishing expeditions. Would recommend to others looking for a quaint house with history and charm.

Excellent location and great property

Right where you want to be. You are already where others park a good distance away to get to and this is the great benefit. The house is just history and hundreds of years of it. Quite wonderful.

Centrally located in lovely Cornish town

We had a lovely week in this delightful and well maintained cottage which slept 9. A bit on the tight side downstairs if fully occupied but great for a family. Shame about the seagulls - the noise and the mess!

Beautiful cottage in great location.

We had a wonderful week's holiday with the family in Lantau Cottage, an old and beautiful property with excellent accommodation and very well equipped. The location was great; in the middle of the old town and only two minutes from the beach. It was good to have two car parking spaces, one of which was right by the beach where buckets and spades, sunshades, etc., could be stored in the boot of the car. I would highly recommend this property.

Family vacation in Looe.

We loved the location and the old world charm of the cottage. Dilly was most helpful when we had problems with the wifi and with suggestions where to eat and things to do. However, the four adults in our party did not sleep well as the beds were too firm. Also, the soft furnishings are in need of an update as they are a bit tired. Overall we had an enjoyable stay at Lantau Cottage.

Mr David Baker

A property bursting with character right in the heart of East Looe. It’s tucked away in the middle of a labyrinth of old, quiet alleyways but just yards from the beach and from the busy touristy streets. The inside of the property was full of charm and very well equipped. One or two things were a bit tired but nothing to spoil our trip. All the bedding and bathroom facilities were spotless. All our communication with the host was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again! Thank-you!

Great house - so close to beach (and everything)!

Three generations making a return visit to Looe and Lantau Cottage enjoying all the charm and character both have to offer. The house is very comfortable and very well equipped - we loved the new curtains and other touches appearing since our last visit. The house is perfectly located in the heart of the old town with the beach just yards away. We enjoyed evenings in the Salutation, Ship and Fisherman's. Breakfasts in Daisy's, Tasty Corner and the Pier Cafe. We really enjoyed the Plough on the Quay (formerly Trawlers) and great to see the return of Pepe's. Thanks again for having us! We'll be back!

A step back in time! Great house in perfect spot

We were six middle aged couples enjoying an Autumn walking break in this lovely part of Cornwall. The house was clean and comfortable and rich in history. We loved the beamed ceilings, paneled walls, hidden doors and ship mast joining all the floors. Sympathetically decorated with nice soft furnishings and curtains. Good attention to detail extended to the pictures and wall hangings - most continuing the nautical theme - which added to the feel of quality and refinement. Location couldn't have been better - a stone's throw from both the beach and harbour - and close to some truly great restaurants: Smugglers Cott, Old Sail Loft, Ancient Mariner to name a few. We enjoyed hearty breakfasts in the Pier Cafe as well as Daisy's and also Tasty Corner. All in all a lovely holiday home experience and highly recommended.

Great property in a central location

Lovely characterful old house and very well-equipped, and it was in a very good position in Looe near the beach. Beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of kitchen and eating equipment for large parties so we could just fill the dishwasher during the day and put it on at night. There were only 6 of us in the end due to Covid restrictions so we had plenty of space to spread out. For 9 adults there are certainly enough beds, but would be a bit tight to all eat at the table or sit in the living area at the same time. Some other properties had a bench or cafe table and chairs outside and that would be a good addition on the Lower Chapel Street side, which catches the sun.

Wonderful holiday in beautiful Elizabethan house

We were two families (8 in total) who enjoyed the most amazing holiday in the wonderful Elizabethan house. So much history – beamed ceilings, paneled bedrooms, tapestries and wall hangings…and a ship mast forming the centre of the stairs! Well equipped kitchen and dining room with comfortable leather sofas in the living room area. Beds were very comfortable complimented with good quality bed linen. Very clean throughout and some real attention to detail here. Easy to find parking for two cars and we had no problem in finding and extra parking space in the Millpool carpark. We were also able to park within a few yards of the house to unload and load. Looe’s sandy beach is just yards away at the end of the street (clean and dog free) and harbour close by (great for the obligatory crabbing). Lots of family friendly cafes and restaurants close by too and all reasonably prices. We enjoyed some lovely walks – especially the coastal walk to Polperro. A special thank you to Dilly for meeting and greeting us on arrival and also for clear joining instructions. Highly recommended for family holidays.

A perfect retreat for any time of year

What a fantastic cottage. The pics don't do it justice - it's made from lots of wood including ships beams and has all the character that goes with it. Looe is a quaint little village tucked into the Cornish coastline. In this cottage we were all of 30 seconds walk (seriously!) from the beach and in the other direction, 30 seconds from the main street. There were 6 of us (parents, 2 sisters and my boyfriend) and we were very comfortable. It was lovely and well kept and there was fresh bread, butter, eggs and milk waiting for us. If you are visiting, you need to park in the main town car park then walk up the tiny street to collect the key for the car park near the house. This is a very old town with small streets and it's charm lies in the great fish and chips (Kellys), amazing icecream flavours and the close proximity of the beach and pier. Wonderfully ideal for anyone not into a night scene. Try The Old sail loft Restaurant and Smugglers Cott. Avoid Daves diner and Archies. Best make friends with the gulls - they sounded like a banshee at night but I missed them when I left. This place has the essence of holidays - I'd definately go back.

Our holiday in Looe

Myself, my family and friends all stayed in Lantau Cottage in August. The cottage is in a perfect location, a stones throw from the beach and all the shops and restaurants. The cottage itself is so cute and comfortable and the joining instructions were clear and helpful. The owner himself was very kind and friendly too in all our correspondence. We would recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in the beautiful town of Looe.

Beautiful historic house close to the beach

We loved this Elizabethan house and felt privileged staying. We loved the kitchen (new we were informed) which was very well equipped with a wonderful range. The house is very tastefully decorated and in sympathy with its medieval heritage with a comfortable living room and five bedrooms. The house is perfectly located in a quiet backwater of the old town - in one of the narrow streets leading up from the beach. Looe itself has lots to offer the whole family with plenty of great eateries and public houses. All in all we had a brilliant week.

Summer in Looe

Very nice and quirky old building. Great kitchen which coped with the 8 of us staying there. Very close to the beach. The 2 car park spaces are extremely useful, but the closest one is only suitable for a smaller vehicles. 4 sets of keys were great when there were so many adults.
