Create incredible memories with a stay at this charming escape, ideal for solo travellers or couples, with room for a furry friend, too. An elevated position gives it incredible views over fields to the fells and Bassenthwaite Lake, 3 miles away, and a footpath from the farm leads directly onto Skiddaw, the fourth highest peak in the Lake District. Head into picturesque Bassenthwaite village and enjoy a pint or a meal in the 16th century pub, and wander to the lake to watch the osprey diving into the waters for fish. While in the area, Mirehouse is a historic house with gardens, lakeshore and woodland playgrounds. Walkers can enjoy the variety of trails at Dodd Wood, 2.5 miles, or follow the 10-mile circular path around beautiful Derwentwater, 6 miles. For shopping, museums, cafes and restaurants, Keswick is 6 miles away, and Cockermouth is 9 miles.
This traditionally styled shepherd’s hut offers a warm welcome, with its barrel-shaped roof and timber accents, and pops of vivid colours to brighten up the interior. There are four steps to the front door and, once inside, you’ll find an open-plan space for lounging, cooking, eating and sleeping, with a separate shower room at one end (don’t worry – you’ll have hot water and a proper flushing WC). Your living space includes a cute kitchenette, with a two-ring hob, combination oven/microwave, air fryer and fridge with ice box, and a dining table with stools just for two. When you’re ready to rest your legs after your day’s adventures, there’s a small armchair or the comfortable king-size bed, which is set across one end of the hut. It’s raised high so there’s room for storage below, and you can use the steps provided to help you up if necessary. There’s even a Freeview TV so you can indulge in watching some shows while in bed.
Step outside and spend time in the fresh air, savouring open-air meals or evening drinks at the picnic table in your enclosed garden as you take in the views or perhaps a spectacular sunset. As dusk falls, spart up the fire pit and enjoy the roaring flames as you listen for owls hooting and watch the night sky fill with stars. For added convenience, a private parking space is provided for you.
