The village of Ruardean has a rich and varied history, and makes a great base for exploring the Wye Valley National Landscape (2.5 miles to the west), which offers a fabulous variety of activities including canoeing, wild swimming, rock climbing, paddleboarding and mountain biking. The cottage also has strong connections to the "Who Killed the Bear" folklore of the Forest of Dean, with one of the perpetrators having lived at the property, the original court summons is displayed. Heading south, the glorious Forest of Dean has some glorious walking trails and is home to the Hopewell Colliery, Dean Heritage Centre, Soudley Ponds, The Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail and the Cyril Hart Arboretum, all within 10 miles.
Entering this beautifully styled cottage, the characterful open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner offers a warm welcome. The light and inviting lounge has a Smart TV, a DVD player, a stone fireplace and ample seating, perfect for relaxing in after a great day exploring. The central breakfast bar is perfect for family meals, and leads across to a fully equipped and elegantly arranged kitchen. The ground floor also features a fantastic cedarwood-roofed sunroom which has a sumptuous sofa, a wide choice of vintage furnishings and a fascinating selection of local souvenirs and artwork. Heading upstairs, you will have a choice of two beautifully decorated bedrooms. The first is a lovely rustic-style king-size room with impressive wooden beams set in the vaulted ceiling. The second bedroom is a charming twin room featuring a single bed and a small double. Finally, this delightful retreat is rounded off with an invigorating and elegantly decorated shower room.
