Peaceful and exactly as advertised. Great communication all around and felt amazingly safe with our kids a stone's throw from the back porch in the water (especially given that Burt Lake is pretty shallow for the first 100 yards).
Lovely location and house was perfect. We rented a tri-toon for a few days to appreciate the beautiful waterways. We did some kayaking as well. Would definitely recommend this home.

Lovely cottage. Great 5 days!!
The lakeside cottage was very nice for our group of 6 adults. The website says it sleeps eight. That would have been a challenge. Our host, Abigail, was very friendly and worked hard to make sure we were comfortable. Thanks so much for a lovely stay.
Amazing location - beautiful lake, great views and close to scenic towns and river/hiking activities. Owner was very responsive when questions/concerns arose. Rooms were comfortable and worked well. Fire pit and chairs were perfect. Kitchen is modern but some of the decor is dated - although that didn’t detract from a great time! One suggestion would be owner provided water amenities (floats/kayak or rafts).
Our family of 6 (4 adults and 2 children) had a fabulous week on Burt Lake visiting with friends, day tripping to Mackinac, deep laketrout fishing on Lake Huron, and enjoying the backyard and dock. There are some lovely trails just up Resort Road for those wishing to take a walk in the woods. We spotted loons and a pair of bald eagles on the lake. There are lots of games, toys, and books available in the house. Our daughter had the best time catching frogs and crayfish. Abigail is such an attentive host and we had all we needed in this cozy cottage. Highly recommend!
We were fortunate enough to have great weather and enjoyed boating on the lakes and Indian river. Close to a great grocery store, Kens has everything. The common rooms were very accommodating, the bigger beds were terrific but the twin beds were a little too soft for our adult group- probably fine as the children’s room. The kitchen, all of the appliances, and the cookware was a dream come true! Also enough supplies like garbage bags, dish soap, etc. to get you started. The yard was very nice, plenty of room to play games, and we all enjoyed nights around the fire-pit. The only thing that would make it perfect is a hoist or a place to tie our pontoon- but we knew that when we booked it, so we were prepared. But something to consider if you want to bring a boat up for everyday use. It really was a grand week- the home is lively and very comfortable.
We love this part of Michigan, being right on Burt Lake was wonderful. Sitting at the end of the dock reading was very enjoyable. The location is fantastic, there is so much to see and do in the area. The cottage fit our needs perfectly, we greatly enjoyed it, it is on a quiet little street, lots of space between cottages. The communication with the host was very good. Wonderful place!
We all enjoyed our stay. We will likely rent this property again in the future. Our group enjoyed everything about the space. Great set up, in a great location.
We had a great stay! We have been coming to the Indian River area for over 20 years and rented many different places. This house was wonderful and centrally located between the Petoskey/Oden/Alanson area and Indian River. The neighborhood is great with relatively quiet streets and some wonderful hiking just steps away.
Burt Lake is, of course, amazing and the dock is a wonderful synthetic dock with the typical 3ft "shelf" that extends probably 100 ft out so great for kids to play in. There is also a large grassy yard that is great for playing or sunbathing, and a great smoker/grill.
The kitchen has nice appliances including extras like a gas grill, toaster oven, and wine fridge.
Wifi was great and very fast--fast enough to support multiple video conferences for remote working.
There are no kayaks or other water equipment but we brought inflatable ones that worked well, so keep that in mind!
The host was very friendly and super responsive, and has lots of tips and suggestions for those new to the area. It would also be a great place to visit in the fall. We look forward to returning!
Wonderful week. Everything was perfect. Especially nice in this time of Covid-19 to escape and enjoy beautiful views, a comfortable/clean home and a change of scenery! Kitchen has everything you need, I cooked every meal (except Topinabee pizza night) due to virus. So grateful for dishwasher! Thanks for sharing your family’s lovely cottage. Hope to be back next year.........
The property was so-so, not horrible but could be better matress beds, also had a fruit fly problem. The location however was awesome - Beautiful Lakes - Inland Waterway is Must Visit - Make sure you bring a pretty fast boat if you plan on going between all the lakes. Overall great time!
Perfect location, wonderful sunrises, comfortable home, great location and property has everything you could want or need! Fantastic place to vacation.
We had a great time at Butt Lake. Abigail was very nice and accommodating. So nice to have the water right there. Listened to it while relaxing at night.

Plenty of pillows and towels. There were logs for the fireplace and starting fluid for the Weber grille. Large quiet setting that is close to Inland Waterway and Burt Lake State Park. About the host
Hosted by Abigail Siders
I grew up in Michigan and loved to spend time at The Swiss Chalet in the summer growing up. The Swiss Chalet was build in 1970 and was purchased the same year by my grandfather and grandmother who lived in the cottage year round.
Why they chose this property
I am third generation to own the house and love the location. It is such a pleasure to see a bald eagle soar overhead or wake up to the sunrise while hearing the sounds of the lake. My grandfather's dream was for The Swiss Chalet to be loved by his grandchildren. Our dream is the same. We hope you love the location and the unique cottage.
