About this property

Spectacular Views of Shadow Mountain Lake and RMNP (dog-friendly)!

The spectacular 180-degree panoramic view of Shadow Mountain Lake and the Rocky Mountains is what separates this vacation home from many other rental properties in the Grand Lake area.
NOTE: Kitchen remodeled in Feb-Mar 2022 (new cabinets, quartz countertops and new appliances), updated photos coming soon. New shower doors in all 3 bathrooms in January 2021. House re-stained in Spring 2020. Upper deck was replaced with composite decking in Fall 2019! Recycled asphalt driveway in Spring 2018. New great room windows installed in Spring 2017 and Spring 2021! Based on previous reviews, we purchased windows that can be opened in the great room to allow the cool refreshing lake breeze to flow through the house.

Enjoy the beauty and majesty of Grand Lake and the Rocky Mountains from this three-story, 4-bedroom, 3-bath home overlooking Shadow Mountain Lake and the Rocky Mountain National Park. The wall of windows in the large great room, as well as the two huge wrap-around decks, provide magnificent views of the lake and mountains. The bedrooms are located on three separate floors, which provides privacy for multiple family gatherings, and you can see the lake from each bedroom.

In Summer, maximize your time outdoors on the decks, which both overlook Shadow Mountain Lake. You can sunbathe or cook dinner on the propane grill on the upper deck, or spend a lazy afternoon lounging in a hammock on the lower deck while watching the boats glide by on the lake. In Winter, you can enjoy a crackling fire in the wood-burning fireplace while watching a movie or playing games on the checker-board table.

We are located just five minutes from the town of Grand Lake and the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. Grand Lake provides a classic 'old west' town ambiance and fun for the whole family. In Grand Lake, you can enjoy the shops, restaurants, beach, boat rentals, hiking trails, guided and unguided snowmobile and ATV rentals, and more. In summer, the park offers a wide variety of hiking trails and several have waterfalls. You can visit Trail Ridge Marina (Shadow Mt. Lake), which is located just 100 yards down the road. The marina offers pontoon and sport-boat rentals, and from this marina you are allowed to take the boats into adjoining Grand Lake. A golf course is located nearby, only about 5 minutes by car. In winter, the golf course is turned into a Nordic center that offers groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing through the woods, as well as free tubing. In addition to There are 300 miles of spectacular snowmobiling trails in Grand Lake, including 150 miles of groomed trails. And Winter Park Ski Area is located about 40 minutes away. In addition to Grand Lake being the ultimate spot for a summer vacation, it is also the perfect getaway to accommodate all your winter sport activities. Book early as this is a year-round vacation home with a very strong rental history and repeat renters.

Rocky Mountain National Park is home to an abundant wildlife population including elk, deer, moose, bear, raccoons and foxes and many of these pass through the rental property regularly. Miles of hiking and snowshoeing trails are accessible from the park.

There is no better place to spend a vacation or the holidays than in the mountains of Colorado.

NOTE: We DO NOT allow gatherings or events (family reunions, weddings, rehearsal dinners, bachelor or bachelorette parties, graduation parties, etc.) of any kind to take place in our home. The home is restricted to the specific number of guests staying in the home that we can accommodate for sleeping. We have received multiple inquiries to host parties in our home so we want to provide notification here to help save you time in your vacation rental search.
NOTE: If you think there's a chance you may have to cancel for any reason outside of the designated cancellation policy timeline, we suggest you purchase travel insurance, which VRBO offers. We will proceed as outlined in our cancellation policy.

A wonderful getaway for our family.
This beautiful house overlooking Shadow Mountain exceeded our expectations. The owners have gone above and beyond to stock the kitchen with everything you would need for meals. In addition, the linens were quality and the bedrooms were nicely appointed in cabin/mountain decor. The space was awesome and felt very cozy! We will definitely return!

Amazing Trip!!
This is the kind of house the makes you go “wowww” when you first walk in the door. View is spectacular! The house was amazing. Set up perfectly with everything you could think of and more. Randy and Karen were super communicable and were always just an email away. Check out the Trail Ridge Marina across the street for dog-friendly boat rentals and real good times. The fam and the pups had an absolute blast and are already talking/barking about the next trip to Shadow Mountain Lake. Thanks for a great time!

About the host

Hosted by Randy and Karen Davis

Host profile image
Randy is a former Marine and a native of Colorado. I am originally from NH but have lived in Colorado for over 37 years. We live in Lakewood, a suburb of Denver, and Grand Lake is a two-hour drive from our year-round home.

Why they chose this property

We decided to purchase a vacation home in Grand Lake as we approached retirement in 2016. We have been visiting and vacationing in the Grand Lake area during our entire marriage, over 27 years. Grand Lake is the perfect escape, and we have experienced many peaceful and relaxing vacations in Grand Lake. We especially like hiking and snow-shoeing and boating with our dogs, as well viewing wildlife during early morning drives through the National Park.

What makes this property unique

We knew this was the home for us the minute we walked in the front door and saw the spectacular 180-degree panoramic view of the lake and mountains. We think you'll agree the view is worth the price of admission. :)
