About this property

Lakefront Home - Dramatic views from upper and lower decks

We invite you to enjoy our beautiful mountain home for a relaxing vacation in the winter or summer in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. With wifi and cable TV you can stay in touch with the world while enjoying the seclusion of this nature lovers paradise. Our home's incredible views take your breath away every morning when you wake up and look across the sparkling water. Sit and watch nature's activity on the lake for hours on end. The islands in the lake provide a back drop for a dramatic nature show where Osprey nest and white pelicans perch. Deer, Elk and Moose are often spotted from the deck. Shadow Mountain rises up out of the water on the far shore giving this beautiful mountain lake its name, 'Shadow Mountain Lake.'

In the winter, you can snowshoe, ice skate or snowmobile on the frozen lake right out the back door. Spend hours of fun snowmobiling through town or on the 100+ miles of trails around the Grand Lake area. Grand Lake Village is the snow mobile capital of Colorado! Only 20 minutes from the Granby Ranch skiing area and 40 minutes from the world famous (and local's favorite) Winter Park and Mary Jane ski areas, this is a beautiful and quiet winter getaway.

Our home is located where the headwaters of the Colorado River enter the lake, creating an estuary-like waterfront on your doorstep. In the lake there is fishing for trout and Kokanee Salmon. This lake is connected at its other end to Grand Lake via a navigable waterway and visits to Grand Lake Village are a must, whether by boat or by automobile. This quaint mountain town has a special charm, choosing covered boardwalks rather than cement sidewalks. Fun mountain town activities like Saturday night bingo in the park, browsing curio shops, playing miniature golf or experiencing the yummy candy and ice cream stores. You can also enjoy the authentic mountain night life by taking in a play at the live theater, bowling, or drinking and dancing in the rustic saloons and many different restaurants.

Right out the door from the lower level of the house you can use our complimentary canoe and paddle on the lake around the islands for sight seeing and fishing. We really love our mountain home and we would like to share it with you. It is a place that you will never forget.

Wonderful lake front stay minutes from RMNP

The house was clean and well equipped. It had everything we needed. Being on the lake was awesome. We used the kayaks to explore the lake and islands. We couldn't ask for a better stay!

This is such a gem

Almost don't want to let the secret out. But this place is located just out of town and so it's quiet and calm and you can kayak right off the back deck. But you're close enough you can zip over into all the things in town you like.

Lakeview getaway

The house and area were perfect for our family. With kayaks and canoes right on the water we could go out on the water any time we wanted. With two levels the kids could play downstairs while the adults were upstairs enjoying the view of the lake and mountains.

Perfect house, fun location

We had a great time up here with our group for the weekend. The house was clean and had everything we needed. It is right on the lake which was a bonus and even had canoes and kayaks we could use. We spent a lot of time in the back around the fire pit.

Beautiful location

This is a beautiful location! The added canoes and kayaks were a huge bonus! The house itself was comfortable for our group of 8. The cleanliness of the place was questionable and we did do some cleaning upon arrival.

Great Getaway

We had an amazing stay. The home was beautiful and clean. We enjoyed the amazing views of the mountains, lake, and birds from the living room and deck. The sandbars in the lake in front of the home were a great place for kids to play. Our favorite activity was exploring the islands with the canoes and kayaks. What a great place to get away from it all!

Waterfront

We had a wonderful time in this fully equipped home on Shadow Mountain Lake. We kayak the “islands” every morning, and used the properties canoe, too. Comfortable rooms to visit with family on both levels. Beautiful scenery from both decks. Beds were very comfortable.

Wonderful stay in a beautiful location, we saw Moose and Deere everyday!!!

We took our entire family and my brothers family to a week long Colorado vacation. The 3 nights we stayed here in Grand Lake were amazing. The deck every morning and night was filled with great views and lots of animals. The quick and easy access to Rocky Mountain National Park is the reason we picked this location and it didn't disappoint. Would recommend this house and location to anyone.

My happy place…

Brent and Lori, thank you for sharing your beautiful home. This was our third trip and it really is amazing. We slowed down a bit this year, watching birds, spending more time on the water, and playing dominoes. The hummingbirds, geese, pelicans, ducks, etc are so much fun to watch. We saw a heron twice while kayaking and so many geese and duck babies. The house was comfortable and great as always, with everything we needed. We love the new cushions on the top deck and the new chairs! We hope to return next summer!

Beautiful vacation escape

We stayed at this wonderful cabin on Shadow Mountain Lake for 4 nights and we loved it! Our boys loved using the canoes, seeing a mama moose with her baby, playing tons of the numerous board games available at the cabin and just relaxing! I would highly recommend staying here and we definitely plan on visiting this cabin again. No one wanted to leave and come home. Thanks Brent and Lori for a wonderful place to stay.

Perfect Family Vacation

We had an amazing time at this property. The views could not be beat! Watching the birds each day was a true highlight. The property was well appointed with all of the necessities. Multi level living was perfect for our family to spread out. We roasted s’mores one night by the lake and it was so peaceful and serene. Thank you for opening your home so others can experience the beauty of Grand Lake.

Great Views, Relaxing Vacation

We had a lovely stay here in July. We were two families and the house was perfect, comfortable, clean and everything we needed. We loved the views of pelicans, Canadian geese and other birds in the lake below the house. Kayaking to the nearby islands was particularly fun and we even saw two moose in the water. The house was very well equipped and the owners were helpful in answering all questions. Thank you for a great summer get-away!

Great Visit!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, the house is well appointed and has all you need to ensure a home away from home. Its very clean and the use of the canoe was an added bonus. The view from the deck was the best part for me. We went fishing, horse trekking and enjoyed the quaint town of Grand Lake. The home owners were very helpful and easy to communicate with - I would return to this house again. Thank you

PEACEFUL CHRISTMAS ON THE LAKE

This is a beautiful property! It has a great floor plan! Our family loved spending our holidays here! It is very peaceful! It is a great place to go if you want a good mix between relaxation and exercise. We loved snowshoeing and skiing across the frozen lake. We enjoyed the close access to hiking trails also. We loved being able to make our food in the nice kitchen. The owner was very helpful! We would love to come back!

A wonderful time at the lake

We stayed for almost a week after a road trip through the Rockies and Four Corners region. The house is great, has a wonderful lake and mountain view and is equipped with all you need, we felt "at home" immediately! We especially liked the moose, that you will find everywhere in the house:) Only minutes from Grand Lake, a very charming village with shopping, dining etc. It was a wonderful highlight at the end of our trip, thank you Dagmar and Rainer, Cologne Germany

Peaceful retreat

We really enjoyed staying at this spacious house. We needed to get away from the noise and just relax a bit. The views from the deck were amazing of the lake and mountains. We saw lots of wildlife including two moose that came right up to house! We rented a boat at Trail Ridge Marina which is very close to the house and which provided excellent service. We hiked Adam Falls which was perfect to do with 3 small children. We would definitely go back and stay in this exact same house as it provided us with everything we needed and more.

The perfect family vacation

We had the most amazing week and a half here - there was more than enough space for our family of five and lots for our three young children to do. The location was peaceful with kind neighbors and a beautiful view, and it was easy to access all the great things in the area. We loved watching the pelicans, osprey and other birds from the deck and were visited by two or three moose nearly every night. Having access to the water was a plus, although it was moving really fast, which made it quite the adventure! Brent and Lori were really wonderful to work with - timely communication, super helpful and very accommodating. Highly recommend this beautiful home for your next get away!

Quiet Retreat on the Lake, With Lots of Wildlife Visible from the Balcony

Great retreat with amazing view of the lake and mountains. Plenty of room for our family of 6 to enjoy. Moose lovers will particularly be fond of the decor throughout the house Saw moose, deer, otters, and the many pelicans on the lake just from the balcony and lower deck. As others have stated, the Adams Falls trail in Grand Lake was perfect for families with younger children. Then suggest stopping by Rocky Mountain Chocolates in town for some ice cream. Unfortunately, the water levels near the house would make kayaking / canoeing rather difficult. So we instead rented a boat on Lake Granby (Beacon Landing Marina) - highly recommend

About the host

Brent and Lori are avid travelers and have been renting through VRBO for many years in places all over the world, from Hawaii to Costa Rica (the picture), Mexico to Germany and Italy and most recently Africa. We know what is important to us when we travel and we like to share that same experience with the people who rent our vacation home in Colorado.

Why they chose this property

We have been visiting this area since we were children. Lori's parents met here. We are natives of Colorado and we plan to retire in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. This vacation home is a step in that direction.

What makes this property unique

Seeing animals in the wild, hiking, biking, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and skiing in the Rockies and visiting Rocky Mountain National Park are just the beginning of what we love here. The quiet and solitude that this area evokes are just right for recharging our batteries for our lives in town and while traveling. Sitting on the deck and watching the lake as it takes on its never ending array of reflections, contrasts and moods is pure joy.
