Cozy Cabin at Water Wheel Falls on the East Verde River - Comfy & Clean!
This perfect Cabin in the Woods is located in a hidden away, and remote community, of both full-time residents and vacation homes situated along the East Verde River at the base of the Mogollon Rim and approximately a mile away from one of the best hiking areas in the region...Water Wheel Falls (see pics)! Yet it is only 8 miles from downtown Payson. This Cabin is situated in a prime location and is a spectacular gem!
The "Nut House", as we affectionately like to call our A-frame Cabin (no nut trees on the property), is an extremely well-appointed property and includes 3 comfy bedrooms (sleeps 6...with up to 5 adults MAXIMUM), 1 spacious full bath with 2 sinks, and a great room layout with vaulted ceilings. Please Note: The maximum occupancy is 6 persons. Please do not invite additional family/friends to stay or visit with you, even for a daytime visit, due to the septic tank's leach/drain field dispersion limitations.
It is not your typical neglected, dank and musty cabin, for It has been freshly painted and is adorned with wood flooring downstairs and new carpet upstairs. It's easy to navigate kitchen comes well stocked with stainless steel appliances including a full-size oven, microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher. Also well equipped with a Keurig coffee maker (bring your preferred K-cups), a standard drip coffee maker as well and every conceivable utensil and small appliance you would ever need. In addition, there is a stacked washer/dryer and a completely fenced and secure yard with "outdoor only" security monitoring.
It is a fully Eco-friendly, LED lighted "green" home and is well maintained. Why would you want to camp or "Glamp" when you can stay at The Nut House and rest and relax. We even have a 4' diameter pave stone fire pit for burning real wood and roasting marshmallows (when the Tonto National Forest Payson Ranger District's fire restrictions are not in place! BYOW...Bring Your Own Wood).
The Cabin is within quick walking distance to the continuously flowing East Verde River (see map in photo gallery) and snuggled in the Tonto National Forest. As we mentioned above, the Cabin is conveniently located only a mile away from the best hiking spot in the Tonto National Forest...Water Wheel Falls (Tonto Day Pass required), and it is also fairly close to Tonto Natural Bridge State Park as well as the quaint towns of Pine and Strawberry. In addition, Payson is also the Home of the Worlds Oldest Continuous Rodeo which takes place in the second half of August each year. The Rodeo/Fair Grounds are just 10 miles from the cabin. All roads are paved into and around the property and we have a large secure and gated driveway which can accommodate most any vehicle and trailer combination.
At the top of the Rim (off Hwy 260 East) is Woods Canyon Lake (about a 45-minute drive from the cabin) where you can rent kayak's, canoes and fishing boats, and it's about 7-10 degrees cooler as well.
An additional fantastic scenic hike is at The Tonto Natural Bridge State Park and it is only a 25-minute drive toward Pine, AZ.
That being said, it is only a short to medium drive to lots of additional hiking and off-road trails in the Tonto, Apache-Sitgreaves and Coconino National Forests. Please check with the Tonto N. F., Payson Ranger District (928) 474-7900; the Apache-Sitgreaves N. F., Black Mesa Ranger District (928) 535-7300 or the Coconino N. F., Flagstaff Ranger District (928) 526-0866 for current conditions or restrictions.
Why camp in the woods, fighting off insects and bears when you can be relaxing and sleeping comfortably and yet still be out in the woods. Grab your hiking boots and backpack, snowshoes and play toys and come on up to the fresh air and beautiful surroundings that only our Arizona Rim Country can provide.
The Nut House is less than 2 hours (97 miles) from downtown Phoenix, and a beautiful drive as well so why wait, plan your next high altitude getaway today!
PLEASE NOTE: Beaver Valley Estates is a community that respects each neighbor and cherishes the solitude that living away from the city provides. Therefore, we request that you also respect the community during your stay by following simple commonsense rules such as:
• Following the current fire restrictions posted by the Tonto National Forest. Ex. Stage 2 or 3 fire restrictions prohibit any live campfires, even in an enclosed fire pit. A sign is posted at the first intersection within Beaver Valley Estates when a restriction is in place.
• Keeping outdoor noise and talking to a whisper after 10pm, (even around the campfire...if forest regulations permit it's use). Ex. Party's will not be tolerated, and the Sheriff will be called.
• Keeping the porch lights off after 10pm (unless the motion sensor is activated)
• Parking only in the cabin driveway within the gate (limited to two vehicles + 1 ATV/SxS trailer). No street parking is allowed.
• Not inviting additional guests beyond that which is stated in your reservation. The booking limitation is 6 total guests, (with a maximum of 5 adults). This is also a condition of the cabin rental, and additional guests will not be tolerated. This limit includes daytime guests.
If you cannot abide by these community friendly rules, then we ask that you look elsewhere for an accommodation as these rules will be closely monitored by our neighbors and violations will be quickly reported.

Perfect kiddo/family friendly spot. The community and cabin comfort made our 4 day vacation ideal for a relaxing getaway. If humbled blessings is your thing, than is a great spot.
Nice little neighborhood with some views. Cool trees and a creek/river nearby. Close enough to town and yet removed from it. The cabin was clean and had everything we needed. The bed in the loft was very comfortable (unlike some vrbos) so I really appreciated that. Nice place ! The pics are from a walk I did around the neighborhood.

We thank you for your patronage and we always aim to please. So happy you were able to relax. That's what we enjoy most and it was the main reason we purchased the cabin. Always glad to share the restful experience with our valued guests!
Our family enjoyed our stay at this cozy cabin, the neighborhood was quiet and delightful. Location is beautiful and close proximity to many activities, we enjoyed our time at the Lake, hiking Tonto National Bridge, and of course playing in the snow.

The cabin was clean and in good condition. We had a fun time staying there and didn't run into any problems. The hosts had all the check-in and check-out instructions lined out in an email and in a binder at the cabin. Super easy process. We would stay again.

Absolutely wonderful property with an excellent location.
Perfect place for a relaxing family vacation. Can’t beat the secluded location and my 4 year old loved playing in the east verde river just a short walk from the house. Will be staying at The Nut House again!
Cozy cabin. There was room for all, trails and wildlife all around. We would recommend for families coming to payson!!

This cabin was perfect for our stay. It had everything we needed and more and the area was quiet and beautiful. It is located so close to Water Wheel and so many other great hiking locations. Communication with our hosts was fast and easy and they whole stay was stress free and enjoyable. We will definitely be looking at this place again for our Payson trips.

Thank you for your gracious comments. We appreciate your patronage and will gladly extend to you a repeat guest discount when to decide to stay again. :)
The property is quaint and well maintained. It had a cozy vibe that is far enough away but not too far away from the hustle and bustle of civilization. We enjoyed exploring the nearby river and a small campfire in the provided fire pit. The bedrooms were clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with the common utilities needed to make meals.

Thank you so much for your honest revue. We pride ourselves on providing a top notch experience for our guests. If you ever decide to return, we always provide a repeat guest discount to our wonderful patrons.
Visited with my wife and 2 adult sons. Quaint, yet no shortage of room. The property's kitchen is very functional and the grill provided was very nice. One minor complaint would be the A/C situation, but following the hosts instructions everyone slept comfortably.
We loved this cabin! It was in a quiet neighborhood outside of Payson, perfect jumping off point to explore the area. It was clear that the owners really seem to love the cabin and use it themselves -- not just investor managers who never set foot inside. Our first night we walked down to the river, and saw elk walking around the neighborhood.
My husband and I stayed here with our son and his friend. We had a really wonderful time. The cabin was very cozy, clean and well equipped. I enjoyed the kitchen which was set up very well.
The boys played board games and we had s'mores out at the firepit under the stars.
The location was very nice as it was out of town, but close enough to sites that we took in. Thank you so much for the lovely home away from home.

Cute, cozy, and comfy house. We all loved the convenience of having a well-supplied kitchen with a dishwasher, microwave, stove, and a nice sized fridge. The community was small and quaint but close to a creek, hiking trails, and campsites. Beautiful scenic drive on dirt road in the mountain area was awesome. The girls want to come back when there is snow. Loved our stay.

Thank you for your kind comments. Did you hit 4 stars accidently instead of 5? Let us know when you want to come back for the snow and we will extend to you a repeat customer discount.
There is lots of wildlife. Water wheel was a nice hike the area is beautiful and green. Just far enough off the highway to be quiet and not to far away to be a long drive to town. The fenced in yard is great for parking the vehicle. We enjoyed all the board games available for when we were at the house. The kitchen is nice and spacious. We didn’t spend a lot of time at the house as we had planned out our days prior to arrival but would definitely stay again
What a great time we had. The property is very nice and well equipped and maintained, with everything we needed. Sitting on the front deck looking at the stars was our evening past time! Was easy to get to, and check in was extremely smooth and quick. Communication with the owner was excellent, and he was very responsive and helpful to us! Although located in a neighborhood, it was really quiet, and lots of places to hike and walk. We must comment on how nice the queen size bed was and we achieved three nights of wonderful sleep. Thank you for providing us with a perfect place to celebrate our recent retirement.

Beautiful but far
Beautiful area, there were pigs, cows, elk, and lots of birds. The property is very clean, inside and out. It is sort of stocked, some essentials were missing that we were told would be there, like soap and shampoo, but there were extras as well that we weren't expecting. The upstairs got very hot and I didn't see an AC unit up there. We stayed in mid-May. It's not very central to anywhere, but is within easy driving distance of Payson and Pine and the Mogollon Rim. It is very close to other houses, but the neighborhood is very small, and there is a small creek (East Verde "River"). Overall, very enjoyable for us as we wanted the natural atmosphere and there were no kids.
Was a great cabin…only issue we had was the air conditioning….we were hoping to have a place to keep cool during the summer day but the ac was only in the living room…all the bedrooms were quit hot until about 9-10pm. Our master upstairs was about 91 until the sun went down.

I am sorry to hear that your experience with the AC was problematic. In our listing we mention that the Master bedroom is upstairs in an A-Frame cabin. We do have specific instructions written on a placard outside the Master Bedroom door on how to manage the heat (which is very manageable if followed precisely). The window in the room has an automatic exhaust fan to blow the heat outside and a ceiling fan as well (as do all of the rooms). We also provide 4 floor fans for placing in strategic locations if needed.
In three years of hosting we have never had a complaint about the AC during the summer. The AC is oversized for the size of the cabin and keeps everything downstairs at 72 degrees, even when it is 95 outside. The day of arrival is unique in that arrival is in the afternoon. That is my we always message our guests to let us know when the leave the valley so we can pre-cool the cabin. Unfortunately we did not receive a text from you or we would have done so. We also moved the check-in time up to 3pm for this purpose as well.
You stayed only one day as you messaged us that you "needed to get back to the Valley" for unstated reasons. If you had stayed the full three days you would have noticed that the temperature was more than manageable during the remainder of your trip.
Sorry for your short stay experience. We would like to assure all future Guests that the cabin is not a hot box :)

Why they chose this property
We absolutely love the Mogollon Rim. The drive from the Valley of the Sun is breathtaking and much more relaxing (and safer) than the drive to Prescott. Water Wheel in our opinion in one of the 10 best hiking destinations in Arizona and when this cabin, (which is sooo close to Water Wheel), came on the market, we simply could not resist. If you have an ATV, UTV or SxS you may bring it, (please do not run the engine past 9pm at night...aka please respect our neighbors). There are many, many trails to explore right from our neighborhood, and you will only have to unload your trailer once!
What makes this property unique
Location, location, yet easily accessible. The best of both worlds! In addition, being so close to the Rim, this area is like no other We've found in Arizona. The forest is incredibly diverse with oak, pine and juniper. The terrain is rugged and beautiful and offers amazing hiking and exploring. Elk, deer and other game are plentiful. There is also a rich hidden history that includes an early Native American race that disappeared, brave homesteaders taming this wild land, a railroad tycoon 'wannabe' that unsuccessfully drilled a tunnel into the top of the Rim, and the final battle between Apaches and the US Cavalry.
