2025 Recent Updates and Newly added: larger oceanfront deck and new carpet has been installed. There is a small 2 or 3 inch step up as you enter into the dining/kitchen and main areas of the house from the sun porch. It used to be more noticeable so I just want to make you aware of it as a precaution.
New Grill, New screened porch seating and New picnic table located at the grill, New beach chairs and Adirondack chairs.

Older home, great location!

Enjoyed the gazebo with swing! Great location with easy access to the beach. There were a few things that could be improved with the home, which we shared with the owner who responded positively.

My sisters & I enjoyed this property in late May. Weather was terrific. Location of property & its proximity to restaurants, ice cream shops &groceries is fantastic. There is a Farmer's Market & Craft Fair every Monday at a nearby park. Make sure to check it out.

Great Place - Great Location

We have been to the Po Boy a couple times now and it is great for our family! You can't beat the ocean front views and it has everything you need. Plus you are so close to great dining and activities in Southport.

Great beach getaway

The house was perfect for what we were looking for. Oceanfront, very clean and a t.v. in every bedroom. It is also steps away from a grill which made grabbing food easy. We really enjoyed our stay!

Steps to the beach

Great beach house, location is perfect! Kids loved how close we were to the beach and the swing on the deck was so relaxing. Very close drive to the grocery store and shops. Everyone slept great, and house had everything we needed.

Sweet house with perfect sunset views

My husband and I adore this sweet house. We have stayed here multiple times since 2008. It is a perfect location with the best sunset views. Always easy to communicate and always clean! We will continue to be return guests.

A Great Escape!

A true gem! We loved our mini-vacation at PoBoy. The house is a very well maintained and we had everything needed in the home. Nice televisions and comfortable beds too . I absolutely loved the porch swing that faces the ocean. The owner was very responsive. This will be the place I request every time I visit Oak Island.

Great weekend!

We were in Oak Island to watch our son run the marathon and his fiancée run the 5k. It was a great weekend.The only thing I could say was a slight negative to the house were the stairs going into the house. There was only a partial handrail on one side. They should add the rest of the handrail. Other than that it was great! I wish it had been warmer to be on the beach. It’s a nice cozy place. Thank you!

Making final memories

My sister and I brought my mom here for a short stay! She has stage IV ovarian cancer and is very week but it was perfect for her to get to the swing and see and hear the ocean! It was warm/stuffy when we got there, text the owner and they turned the ac on…next day wasn’t as warm and I text because mom was cold and they turned the heat back on! It was wonderful!

Prefect for small family with kids

One Grand parent with two daughters and their children (7,5,& a 7month old baby) and a son in law. Was just the right size for that combination. Loved the easy access to the beach and the deck. The gazebo was the selling point for granddad. Only criticism is the lights and outlet for parking wasn’t working. And our key code stopped working on Friday, but I don’t know if one of the children did something wrong to cause that. Would also suggest lighting for the outside shower area as well. Love an outside shower! The water spigot at the back porch was awesome and so convenient! Bravo on that.

I just spent a wonderful vacation at the po boy!!! I arrived to find this charming beach house spotlessly clean!! After traveling a long distance I cannot tell you how delighted I was!!! I was thrilled at the location on the beach!! You have expansive views of oak island from the screened in porch and gazebo!!! I found both of these amenities very useful!!! I found the kitchen well stocked and very easy to work in!, I am retired so I was able to stay for a few weeks and my grandchildren and family members who visited me are still talking about what a great beach house and wonderful time they had!!! The bedrooms are great with one having a queen and a twin and one havin two twin beds and then the master with its connecting bath was just so convenient with room for 3 generations easily!!!! I am a beach lover and no longer live close to a beach and the po boy is just a wonderful spot!!! I plan on returning annually!! The owner Renee, was a absolute delight to work with!!! I cannot wait until my 2017 visit!!!!

Disappointment

Property location is awesome, property and facilities however were disappointing. I texted contact person with why along with photos and no response to date from back on Tuesday, 3 days ago. When booked, I went off the 4.8 star rating I saw but did not read actual prior reviews, if I had the one from 2021 still holds for today. My guess, based on my experience is that property owners don't take reviews seriously as I found the state of this property as she described, but with 2 years more of physical deterioration. Luckily we were not planning a lot of time indoors and the weather helped make that a reality, otherwise what turned out to be an ok trip would have been rather unenjoyable. My advice, renter beware.

Great location but not worth the price

This is all in the context of paying over $700 per night for this house. The house location is great - right on the beach and very close to the park. However, the house upkeep/maintenance was poor overall and not in keeping with the charged price. Some things were frankly not safe for children: the door frames/wood trim in the house were broken with pieces sticking out, there were several wood rail sections on the deck that were not secure. There was mildew on the shower curtains. There was also just too much furniture where we found it cramped with just 3 adults and 1 baby. All of these issues could be resolved with simple upkeep and maintenance. I’m actually really surprised that these issues did not come up in previous reviews. We essentially never give negative reviews but we felt compelled to share our experience. We were very surprised given the price.

A Treasure on the Dunes

We had an absolutely wonderful vacation here, made all the more magnificent by this delightful “home base.” The house—while exceptionally well appointed with new appliances, a large washer and dryer, and everything one would need for cooking and serving—effortlessly manages to be both functional and cozy. The seating is ample, the beds are comfortable and supportive, and the layout is practical, with bedrooms and restrooms to the roadside while the open design of the living/dining areas allows a comfortable flow through the house and an unobstructed view of the ocean. Outside, having the covered swing is marvelous, giving a beautiful view of the ocean and a cathartic breath of sea air. It rained all day for 2 days of our trip, but the covered swing remained gloriously restful. The only item that could use some improvement is the deck, as there are a few nail heads rising from the older wood; however, repairs have already begun with deck screws and new treated lumber. Lastly, the homeowner goes out of their way to assure a pleasant stay. The homeowner was immediately responsive to any questions we had, and worked closely with us so that our stay was memorable. We always felt that if we had any questions or concerns, that an answer would be arriving momentarily. I cannot say enough about the wonderful time we had in this house and how attentive the homeowner was, and I would unreservedly recommend this beach rental to anyone.

We love the gazebo overlooking the ocean, surfing the waves and looking for sea shells with our family. This beach has a family atmosphere, isn't over commercialized and there are many fun filled activities close by.

Why they chose this property

Our family has loved the location of this quiet little piece of paradise for the past 40 years. It is close enough to the hustle and bustle of Myrtle Beach but far enough away to be a truly perfect vacation destination. The convenience of being able to walk to restaurants,shops and middleton park makes the Po Boy a winner with the family!

What makes this property unique

Surf fishing, sea shell hunting, walks to the pier, shops and skate board park, visiting the Blue Water Point Marina and Historic Southport and watching Dolphins swim.

The Southport - Oak Island area is home to the largest Fourth of July Festival in North Carolina. Southport is the only area incorporated as the NC 4th of July Festival. A whole week of activities consisting of arts and crafts, street dancing, lots of fun and a grand parade precedes an evening of fireworks to end the festivities. Please contact the Southport - Oak Island Chamber of Commerce for more scheduling of events.
