About this property

Hurricane Hill-a farm cottage near Providence

Come stay in a private, light and art and book-filled cottage on our 48-acre, 1750s working farm. Walk the trails, visit our goats and sheep and enjoy our eggs and (if you hit the right season), produce from our garden. Convenient to 95, 295, TF Green Airport and only 12 minutes from Providence, this home is both secluded and close to everything. Centrally located to RI's colleges, universities and hospitals, this is a great option for short or extended stays.

First kid under 10 stays free!* This is a great property for families-cozy enough for time spent together but also with enough space to get away from each other when needed. Kids love our farm animals and adults like the convenience to amenities and activities.

With enough advance notice, we are happy to provide for any anticipated extra needs when we can and, since we live on the farm, we can quickly attend to anything that arises during your stay. This includes early check-in: we'll accommodate when we can , but plese dont call us when you are standing outside 2 hours early (unless it is an emergency-then we'll make you a cup of tea and set you up at our house for a bit).

We have four bedrooms with double accommodations (second floor)and one convertible (first floor): so we can sleep 8 adults and either one adult or two kids on the convertible. Please note that our base rate is for the two first guests-after that, guests (*the first kid under 10 stays free!*) are charged an additional $35 a night. When booking, skip the free kid in your guest count but send us a message that explains who is actually coming so we can prepare.

We have been doing this for a while now and we consider ourselves to be good and thoughtful hosts (our reviews agree). Experience has been a great teacher and our hosting has evolved over the years : we ask that you read our rules and requests (here in the app or posted on the fridge) and if something does not make sense, that you ask us about it.

Book with us ! You'll be glad you did. We are always happy to share the special qualities of Hurricane Hill with our guests.

A very special place

Every bit as delightful as the photos suggest; gleaming wood floors with colorful rugs; exquisite bedrooms. Quality, charm and art abound indoors (with a great dollop of practicality and ease as well) and with a library to outlast any stay. Outdoors the regenerated land is a birders paradise. And the hosts are simply as special as their home.

We had the loveliest time at Hurricane Hill! The house is beautifully furnished and the hosts were super sweet and helpful. We loved visiting the animals too. We want to go back, it was one of the top stays we’ve ever had anywhere!

A lovely place to relax and renew

This farm stay was all we hoped for. Beautiful accommodations, great bedding, well stocked kitchen and amazing views. Plus, the sheep, goats, llama, poultry, and gardens reminded us so much of our old farm in Iowa. We hope to return in the summer.

Hurricane Hill

We loved our visit and stay at Hurricane Hill Farm! We got to enjoy the peace of the farm, see the animals, and even have farm fresh eggs for breakfast! We loved having our morning coffee outside and snacks outside. Laying on the hammock was relaxing as well! Coincidentally, we had the opportunity to be at their annual sheep shearing festival. We all enjoyed that as well! Thank you for a beautiful weekend!

The Best

We absolutely loved it here. Cute cottage with a magical space. Farm fresh duck eggs were wonderful. Sipping morning tea under the linden tree out back was our favorite!

Heaven

We could not have asked for a better place to stay. The farm was such an asset for young ones. They played for hours after a Long plane ride. The bedrooms are very spacious and comfortable. Drake was great to work with!

Graduation Weekend

The setting is beautiful, an open meadow and garden. The working farm chickens, ducks, sheep and 2 llamas nearby added to the charm. The house is in great mix of an old house with modern systems. Drake and her husband are more than happy to help with questions but are also busy running the farm so you have privacy as well. Highly recommended.

Excellent Experience

We came as a group of 7 adults and 2 teenagers and stayed for 3 nights to attend a graduation. We would have loved to stay longer and explore the area. Hurricane Hill provided us with a tranquil place to stay and enjoy the animals and quirky house (I mean this as positive as possible - nothing negative here at all). It was nice to have a house with a well-stocked kitchen, excellent friendly, yet non-intrusive hosts, and comfortable beds. We would definitely return if we return to the area.

Such a fabulous retreat!

We love this property! This is our second stay! The house is beautiful and meticulously kept. Beds are super comfortable, there is more than adequate linen supply and a well stocked kitchen. The games and puzzle collection is so wonderful my kids love exploring the games and having some family time to play them. The property is also so beautiful with so much space to walk around. Visiting with their animal family of goats and llama and chickens is so fun with small children. Drake is so warm and welcoming assisting with anything you need. The house and property are clearly so well cared for and loved. We can’t wait to go back!

Rhode Island Country Escape

After a week of road tripping in New England we stayed here at Drake's place as our final stop. Her quiet country surroundings were a perfect way to wind down the trip my mother and I were finishing. The accommodations have a real lived-in farmhouse charm with plenty of space, comfortable beds, and well supplied kitchen. Providence is a surprisingly short drive away. Drake's property sits right at the edge of that city/country line. We didn't get to explore Providence much, but there are lots of choices for fine dining and for what we saw, seemed a beautiful city with plenty to do. Gather Glass is worth a shout out for their hands on glass blowing demonstration. Most enjoyable for me was the farm's 48 acres. Drake's Farmstead touches are everywhere, and I really appreciated her connection with her piece of earth. The pastured animals are well cared for, the gardens beautiful, and the trail that winds through the forested back acres is well worth the stroll. The stay here is more than just a bed

Our group of five 64 friends had an enjoyable stay at Hurricane Hill. Location was close to Providence, Newport and the airport. Our friendly hosts promptly answered questions before and during our stay. We enjoyed walking around the grounds, feeding carrots to the llama and goats, and sitting outside. Inside, the kitchen was well stocked and well lit. There is no TV but several board games and books are available (we played cards). The upstairs bedrooms were comfortable and full of interesting art and books. The large upper bathroom worked well for multiple people, plus there is another full bath on the main level. We did find the staircase steep for some of us and think the fold down bed on the main level is best for younger people.

The property is amazing and the cottage is fabulous! We were out and about so much, we didn’t really spend a lot of time there. I am a super early riser so I enjoyed the peace and roosters early in the morning. And of course Smudge! He made enough biscuits on me to feed an army!! Thank you for your hospitality.

We appreciated the host’s attention to detail. The house was thoughtfully supplied with fans (we came in the heat of summer), games for the kids, and really anything we needed. Hosts were very generous is letting us see the farm and animals. Our family had a great time, thank you!

Hosts are amazing people

Wonderful, kind, and responsive hosts! When a storm made it unsafe to stay, they helped us find a hotel and even lent us a pack and play for our child. Sad we missed out on their beautiful property (and the animals!) but hope to visit again soon.

Lovely, quiet farm with classic New England charm

The location of this little farm is a total surprise since it’s so secluded and yet so close to everything you might need as well as the attractions R.I. offers from Providence to South County and Newport. The cottage is classic early New England but modernized for full comfort. The farm animals are a bonus and the hosts are very kind and thoughtful people.

I'm a former archaeologist/anthropologist and arts and humanities non-profit leader turned farmer and entrepreneur. My husband and co-host Wright is a designer/fabricator and artist (some of the art in the cottage is his). Our farm is always a work-in-progress and we never seem t be done with the myriad of projects that need us. Meanwhile, we treasure its light, its birdsong and the even changing gifts the land offers. We are fiber farmers-keeping a breed of sheep on the critical list. We also run goats and chickens. A llama guards the sheep (and sometimes, us!). Farm dog Rosie imagines she guards the llama. Buddy Big Dog is our main greeter, enjoying his senior status. Finally, Smokey Pants the cat is in charge of everyone!

Why they chose this property

We came to our farm by way of a smaller one-and one we had no intention of leaving. This place needed attention-and we felt we could bring it back into use again. Our 1750's farm is protected from development in perpetuity-and we currently share our land with one woman-owned. The farm is also home to an events /education space (find us by searching for hurricane hill farm in RI) and my husband's design & build studio. The opportunity to be part of and do all these things on our own land is a dream come true.

What makes this property unique

Our location is an adventurer's dream! We are close to everything, yet serene and private. We will be as helpful as you need (we can give you ideas for restaurants and attractions) or as hands off as you want (we'll just let you be!). Our guests seem to treasure the solitude of our little farm and remember, you can take a selfie with a llama-you can't do that everywhere!
