About this property
Historic Coast Guard station on Keweenaw Bay, walking distance to beach!
Come stay at the "Powerhouse" (the 1 story house in the middle of the 3 houses) in historic White City, built in the 1930’s to supply electricity for the lighthouse that’s a short walk down the breakwater. The Powerhouse was converted into a residence and sits on a secluded 16 acre property with 2 other houses; The Captain's house and The Duplex, which used to house the lightkeepers.
You’ll find beautiful White City Beach and a free public boat launch both only a 5 minute walk from the house. One main attraction that’s in view from the house is the Keweenaw Waterway Lower Entry Lighthouse. White City is definition of a relaxing environment with tons of activities to keep everyone occupied. Pull up a chair on the breakwater and take in the views of Keweenaw Bay (Lake Superior) or grab a fishing pole. Drop in your kayak or one of our canoes at the house and take a paddle in the miles of backwaters north of the house.
Just a side note, we are quite far from the nearest supermarket (30 min.) please make sure you pack everything you need to eat/drink unless you have time to run to the store.
You can also jump in the car for an hour ride to Copper Harbor where you’ll find beautiful views and small shops to satisfy your touristy needs. Copper Harbor is known around the Midwest for its mountain biking with rental bikes available. If you're looking to relax, have fun and see everything that the UP of Michigan has to offer please come stay in our one of a kind property.

Why they chose this property
My grandma grew up in Houghton and her father originally owned the property in the late 1800's but then it was sold in the 1930's to build housing for the coast guards, hence the 3 houses on the property. In the late 70's all coast guard housing was sold off, and my grandparents re-purchased the property and flipped the powerhouse that originally supplied electricity to the lighthouse into a house. The property just holds a lot of family history to us as well as sentimental value.
What makes this property unique
Constant eagle viewing, hence why we keep the dead tree in the front because the eagles like to land there and enjoy their morning breakfast. The houses are set right on the break water for fantastic views of the sunrise, sunset and sometimes the Northern Lights. The beach and boat launch are within walking distance to our house, and our beach is the only one in the area that is very shallow which makes it nice to stand in the cold Superior waters on a hot day (or dive in, if you're brave).
