About this property
Hulili Tropical Fruit Farm - Pineapple Cottage
Opened for guests in 2010, the original HULILI FARM COTTAGE (pronounced who-lee-lee) has welcomed so many wonderful guests that it became time to enable more people to enjoy the farm. Introducing Pineapple Cottage! Please check out our reviews for the original cottage (listing #269536) and our new Treehouse (listing #4108089) to see which cottage best suits your needs. Guests rave about the 'SWEEPING, UNSPOILED, TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY VIEW' in every direction! The sun and moon rise over the ocean as you watch the wonders unfold from your comfy rocking chair OR swinging bed on the lanai. Birdsong is the beautiful sound track on this private farm located at the end of a dead end country road. Relax as you walk through the orchards and please, sample the when it is best! The COTTAGE is bright, clean, and newly furnished with all you will need. The master suite offers a KING size 'sleep number' bed with dual controls for firmness. A FULL size futon is inside, and outside on the LANAI is the QUEEN size 'HANGING BED'. (This bed has become a favorite with our guests, who sleep, nap, read and talk while swaying in the breeze, taking in the beauty.) Walk-in shower and pedestal sink in the cottage bath. Laundry facilities, with all supplies, are available for our guests and just steps away from the cottage. Behind the cottage is our citrus grove, where lemons, limes and oranges can be found in abundance, while the lychee orchard drops off in front of you. There’s almost always a stalk of “apple” bananas hanging on the lanai, and don’t forget the pineapples growing along one side. Bring some groceries and you are ready to settle in. We encourage you to take the time to read our 160 FIVE STAR REVIEWS for our original listing. They paint a true picture of their stay at Hulili Farm. Here is seclusion, peace and quiet on a tropical farm 'paradise'. The ultimate guidebook: 'HAWAII, THE BIG ISLAND REVEALED' is in the cottage for your use while exploring.
While most guests come to the farm to get away from their busy lives, for those who still want to maintain some connection, we have recently updated our internet and now offer fiber-internet on the farm. But we won’t tell your boss that!
Have fun! Our Aloha, Todd and Madeleine

This place is a hidden gem. Amazingly cute little cottage nestled on a wonderful farm. If it weren't for all the activities we wanted to do in the area we could have sat in those rocking chairs, or on that day bed, all day staring at the clouds, watching the sunsets and sunrises. It had everything we needed for an incredible stay.
Such an idyllic place to stay. The cottage was well appointed, the farm was beautiful and it was so peaceful. It was lovely being off the beaten path but still close to Hilo and many sights and activities. Hoping to return to this wonderful place.

Thank you so much! It makes us so happy to see guests like yourselves enjoy all the farm has to offer! We hope you make it back soon.
If you would like to stay in a place as close to the garden of Eden as you can get, then this is it. The cottage has everything you need, it is very comfortable, and the view and the surroundings are beautiful. Todd and Madeleine were very gracious hosts. Madeleine even alerted me to the fact that the volcano was erupting so that we could take advantage. The kitchen is well stocked if you like cooking your own meals as we do, and sitting outside in the morning in the rocking chairs, watching the geckos is a real treat. This place is one of a kind.

Thank you so much for your glowing review, we really appreciate it! Please come again!
We spent a week at pineapple cottage. We found it very restful and had beautiful sunrises. The owners were very generous with allowing us to try the fruit on the farm. All of the accommodations were comfortable and met our needs. We sat out every morning having coffee on the porch. We made special memories during our stay on the big island. We took several day trips to see local sites and do hikes. We were fortunate to experience the erupting of the volcano at Volcano National Park during our stay!

Idyllic setting, very private cottage, had everything we needed. Host was fabulous and let us wander the farm. Loved the lanai for reading overlooking the ocean in the late afternoons.

We love it when guests explore the farm and discover new fruits! Thank you!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! It's charming and the view is awesome. Fresh homemade muffins awaited us and fruit was delivered to the porch -- a tropical fruit we'd never tried or heard of! Handy laundry only a few steps away. GREAT location! Feels so private! We enjoyed several BEAUTIFUL sunrises from the swinging outside bed. Magical. Nice bedroom inside too. Lots of hot water and water pressure. Fully equipped kitchen. Only about 20 minutes from Hilo. Plenty of TV channels and strong internet connection. LOVED IT!

This place was perfect. We slept on the hanging bed every night and it was so peaceful. Waking up naturally to the sunrise was so refreshing and we felt incredibly well rested every morning! This is a must stay place in my opinion.

This was our second stay at the Pineapple Cottage and it was just as magical as the first. We spent hours lounging on the hanging bed on the lanai and eating fresh fruit and poke bowls. It was just the relaxing stay we needed!

About the host
Hosted by Madeleine Loewen
Todd and Madeleine Loewen are the caretakers and cottage keepers here at Hulili. A full time farm, Hulili grows tropical fruits called longan (lawn-gone) and lychee (lie-chee) on a large scale, however there are also many other fruits that grow on the farm throughout the year. There are appx. 8 acres in orchard. The remaining acreage holds house, barn, cottage and an enormous 'front yard'.
Why they chose this property
We were delighted with the 'end of the road' location, and the undeveloped, unspoiled view of the ocean and surrounding country. The 500 foot elevation means better view and pleasant breezes. The land has a gentle slope toward the orchards and ocean. The surrounding open spaces land makes it seem as if we are on hundreds of acres.
What makes this property unique
There is the feeling of being the only people on the island. With such privacy and space, we enjoy outside living morning to night! Mornings on the lanai as you watch the sunrise over the Pacific are incredible, as are the evening sunset colors and moonrise. We have less rain than Hilo and enjoy tropical trade winds that keep us cooler in the summer than in town. Beautiful awe-inspiring location and a short drive from all that the Big Island has to offer, make for a perfect vacation!
