About this property

Wine country farmhouse

Cozy Farmhouse surrounded by vineyards & large private garden with heirloom home orchard; Fiber optic internet, A/C, EV charger.

The early 1900s farmhouse is the original house on a large horse ranch and vineyard in Sonoma County. It sits at the intersection of two idyllic country roads and offers a secluded retreat that is both rural, with horse pastures and surrounding vineyards, and within minutes to some of the best wineries and activities in Sonoma and Napa.

The 1300 square foot house is on two levels, with three bedrooms, a full bath and a half bath. It has a fully equipped kitchen, dining room and a living room with a gas insert fireplace.

The one-acre private yard has a lawn, deck with bistro lights, propane grill and lots of outdoor seating options. Come relax in a comfortable hammock and enjoy beautiful views surrounded by a grove of California oaks and young fruit trees (apple, plum, pomegranate, pear, persimmon, quince, walnut, and a variety of eating grapes). The heirloom home orchard features Luther Burbank's best known varietals (including Santa Rosa Plum), Sonoma's own Gravenstein apples (red and green variety), and a sweet Royal Medlar tree.

The garden attracts many birds, including hummingbirds, and in the evenings, there is a frog symphony from the nearby seasonal pond.

Perfect for couples, friends, and families. The house is convenient if you are attending a wedding in the area. We are in Sonoma County, but just a few miles from the Napa County line. There are numerous fine wineries around us. And you are 5 minutes away from a great grocery store.

**TESLA EV charger adapter: Please let us know if you will need the adapter to charge your electric vehicle and we will be happy to provide it for you.**

*Secluded and comfortable*
The 3 bedrooms feature comfortable mattresses and room darkening blinds. The quiet nights, the occasional neighing of horses and the absence of neighbors help ensure a deep sleep. Winter and spring, there is a frog symphony from the pond below the house.
Spring and summer, there are lots of birds (including hummingbirds) in the garden. The house has air conditioning, fiber optic internet and a Roku TV connected to cable and Netflix.

*Guest Access* You have access to the whole house, with the exception of a locked utility closet, and to the enclosed, secluded garden. There is plenty of parking outside.

Private Chef Services Available - We can connect you to a wonderful private chef who does personalized menus, food and wine pairings, and olive oil tastings

During the summer months, the adjacent stables offer 10 weeks of horseback riding camps. These popular camps are for kids aged 7-12 and do not require any riding experience. You can bring your kids to the barn where they will spend the day riding and learning about horsemanship. And while they ride, make bran mash cookies for the horses and pick wild blackberries, you can tour wine country. For more information about the camps, please contact us.

Five Star Farmhouse
Alpine Ranch is surrounded by a peaceful country setting, and only a short drive from Santa Rosa grocery stores and numerous vineyards. We enjoyed relaxing under the moonlit sky while gazing at stars. The Farmhouse was beautifully decorated with a fully stocked kitchen, updated bathroom and comfortable beds. We also loved the surround sound system, fireplace, and back deck. The property manager was very welcoming and helpful. We loved our visit and would definitely stay again. Highly recommend!

About the host

Hosted by Caroline Simon

Host profile image
We are four siblings. One manages the stables on the ranch and lives nearby. Another lives on a boat. The third is also a horsewoman, specializing in dressage and horse health. The fourth lives in Washington DC and spends much of the year wishing she was at the ranch. But not as much as her two daughters who have grown up spending summers at horse camp and loving everything about the ranch, from the wild blackberries, the hot days and cool evenings and the many joys of country living.

Why they chose this property

Our parents fell in love with California when they first came to Calistoga in the 1960s. It was a dream come true when our father retired and they bought this ranch. Sonoma County reminded them of France, their native country: the vineyards, the beautiful agricultural lands, the farm-fresh foods. And the weather was always better than Normandy!

They planted a vineyard, with acres of Merlot and a few other varietals, and our mother tended to the vines and her Chicken Château. Our sister manages the horse stables on the property. It is known as a place where kids and adults enjoy riding. In the summer, the school offers horse camps for kids during which riders of all levels ride, learn to care for horses, make friends and relax by the creek. Some of her students now send their kids to the camp.

What makes this property unique

The house is on preserved agricultural land. We consider it the perfect amount of nature--you are surrounded by trees and animals (horses from the stables nearby, polo ponies in an adjacent ranch, cows and sheep across the street, hummingbirds), but you are also minutes away from fabulous restaurants, farmers markets, scenic countryside and the vineyards of Napa and Sonoma.
