About the host

Host profile image
I am an author and editor and the publisher of Joggling Board Press, an independent book publishing company dedicated to the creation of award-winning books in the spirit of the South, thus the surfeit of books in the cottage. My husband Lars is a professional captain of luxury sailing yachts and a fine woodworker. We have a quirky basset hound husky blend (a basky) who fancies himself a fine fellow (we do, too). My late husband, a professor of political science, and I spent a year researching the globe to determine the place we wanted to raise our three daughters. Summerville and the historical house, gardens and cottage that would become our home have proved to be everything we hoped it would be. Our children are all grown. Lars and I are now seriously contemplating housing chickens in the backyard.

Why they chose this property

Our home and cottage are located in Summerville's historic district with majestic trees on a nearly two-acre lot within easy walking distance of Azalea Park, downtown's Hutchinson Square and all the delights this town has to offer.

What makes this property unique

The Manse on Main is a stately property built in 1948 by a lumber baron and his wife. The workmanship of the home is a thing to behold, so, too, the gardens, governor's driveway, courtyards and lovely outdoor seating areas. We are in the process of renovating the built-in pool, adding an outdoor kitchen and pool house cabana, which will all be available to guests when completed.
