About this property
Original 1798 Antique Appalachian Chestnut log cabin- "Annies Cabin"
This adorable antique Appalachian log cabin was built by Thomas Jeffersons nephew, Peter Carr in 1798 and is made completely of American Chestnut, a wood which is now extinct. This cabin is called "Annies Cabin", after the last Carr family member to reside in this sweet 220 year old cabin. Annies still remains much as it did in the 1800s with a few modern updates, such as a electricity, a full kitchen (stove, oven, mini-fridge,microwave, coffee maker, toaster, etc), indoor plumbing (a shower and toilet in the small bathroom with a sink in the kitchen) and a TV and DVD, air-conditioner and gas furnace for heat. The rustic, yet fully functional, furniture and decor only adds to the ambiance of this sweet and simple cabin. No cell service allows guests to return to a simpler time, a welcomed relief from the demanding rhythm of the modern day (however, we do have an internet lounge just a two minute walk from Annies for guests who need to re-connect!). The tin roof of Annies Cabin is a special treat for a guest who is lucky enough to stay on a rainy evening, being lulled to sleep by the pitter-patter of raindrops on the tin.
This sweet step back in history is located just 1/2 mile from Crabtree Falls, the largest vertical drop east of the Mississippi! The falls are a "must" for visitors and is beautiful year-round. Winter can be the most incredible time to visit the falls and if the temperature drops low enough for long enough, the falls freeze over and create a masterpiece of icicle art!
This Cabin is also located only 7 miles from an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway, a beautiful scenic drive which offers multiple overlooks and hike entrances. Humpback Rocks offers one of the best hikes in the area and Raven Rocks is a fantastic overlook for those who are not up for a hike!
Also close by (about 20 mins) is Nelson 151- the "Brew Ridge Trail", which offers tons of breweries, wineries, distilleries and cideries! We have great recommendations for drivers and tours for our guests who wish to visit several places without the hassle of driving!
Wintergreen resort is also only about 20 minutes drive from us.
Wintergreen has so much to offer year-round, from skiing and snowboarding in the winter to zip-lines in the summer, there is something fun happening in every season! Enjoy being close to all of the fun activities while still being off the beating path!
Annies Cabin is a favorite of our guests. It is loved for its history, its beauty, its stories and the memories made within its Chestnut walls! You and yours will come back again and again to enjoy this sweet mountain treasure.

Why they chose this property
This property has been in our family for three generations. We spent our whole lives here making memories in these beautiful mountains. It's a joy and pleasure to share this piece of heaven with our guests.
What makes this property unique
Relaxing on the front porch in the morning with a warm cup of coffee and a blanket on your lap while listening to the Tye River run is a feeling that leaves you warm and at peace. Sitting under the stars at night by the campfire with your family or friends talking, laughing, making music and memories refills your soul. Hiking the largest vertical drop this side of the Mississippi is a feat you'll talk about for years and a view you'll never forget. Picking apples with a mountain scape background in the golden hours of a fall day and the sweet, subtle smell of the orchard is a real-life dream. The pitter-patter of the rain on the tin roof is the lullaby helps you drift off to sleep as your tucked away in the warmth of a cozy 1798 antique log cabin here at The Cabins at Crabtree Falls.
