Eli Reeves Cabin at Hobbyknob Farm - Authentically restored 1820 Log Cabin
Come enjoy a winter treat with a real fireplace and all the free wood you need! This two story log cabin was originally built in 1820 by Eli Reeves, an Indiana furniture maker. In the fall of 2015 it was moved log by log to our farm and was restored to feel like you stepped back in time but with very special touches. If these logs could talk! The first word most guests say is "wow" and we worked hard to earn that. If you do an internet search for the cabin name you will see our 185 plus all 5 star reviews. We set out to create something special that would stand out to share with guests. Come experience this piece of history and make some memories of your own. We are a working Fiber Farm raising rare breed sheep, Llamas and Alpacas. We have chickens for farm fresh eggs for you. Plenty of firewood for the wood burning fireplace and central heat and air. We are 4 miles from Main Street in Weaverville and 11 miles from Asheville right up I-26.

Absolutely fell in love with this cabin! What a beautiful balance of rustic charm and modern amenities! We explored the farm and surrounding property and then nestled back by the fire for coffee and those famous farm fresh eggs! We were attending a wedding a mile up the road and actually left early because we missed our cabin!
We were so happy to stay at this wonderful historic cabin. So comfortable and cozy. The bed was perfect and we had everything we needed. Including fresh eggs from the hosts chickens. Great place to unwind and disconnect. Butterfly's, hummingbirds, sheep....the list goes on. We were definitely impressed.
This is a wonderful place to stay for those looking to get away, yet still be close to everything. The cabin is truly amazing…Very warm, inviting and clean. We loved the farm fresh eggs awaiting us! Communication with owners was great and we would highly recommend this cabin!
The mountains of WNC are ready to be visited again! This cabin was simply perfect from its historic restoration to amenities, comfort and generous hosts! We will definitely return. Thank you for a beautiful home to celebrate Christmas in by the fire while in town visiting family. We felt right at home.
The cabin and host are fabulous. Great mountain setting providing beautiful views. Host provides plenty of firewood for indoor fireplace and outdoor fire pit. Conveniently located to Asheville and restaurants in Weaverville. Really enjoyed our stay.
Loved the cabin. We went in the summer time but I think the ideal time would be in the fall or winter where you could enjoy the large stone fireplace. Our child had a blast with all the farm animals and the hosts were very gracious and accommodating.
Had an amazing get away to this beautiful and historic rustic log cabin in the mountains of NC. It has all the rustic authenticity yet has every modern day touch and amenity required for a truly one of kind cabin! The hosts are wonderful, genuine folks living nearby their working farm and the fresh eggs were a nice touch as well. We couldn't recommend it any more sincerely! If you're real hand- hewn cabin enthusiasts, this lovely rental is not to be overlooked!
A true vacation! Nestled in the trees, surrounded by greenery, serenaded by birds, we relaxed and rested. The cabin is so spacious (photos don’t do it justice) with whimsical rustic decor and modern appliances. Internet was strong, water was hot, and kitchen was stocked with farm-fresh eggs, local jam, and makings for s’mores. Our service dog enjoyed her vacation, too. She frolicked with the sheep, swam in the creek, and walked with our hosts’ dogs. At night, we enjoyed the outdoor fire-pit, watched the lightning bugs, while we roasted marshmallows to make s’mores. We didn’t want to leave!
Daron and Elizabeth are the BEST hosts and this cabin is absolutely perfect if you are looking for a cabin getaway in the mountains. The cabin itself is perfect: great wood burning fireplace, fully restored cabin with all the amenities (great wifi), and no issues with hot water or appliances. Daron was great with communication and Elizabeth was so gracious to show us their farm with llamas, goats, sheep, chickens and ducks!
They give you fresh eggs when you arrive, have coffee grounds and firewood aplenty. Honestly I can't imagine a better place or better hosts. We are so grateful for them and would stay here again in a heartbeat. You absolutely MUST check this place out!
This cabin exceeded our expectations! It’s clear that Daron and Elizabeth put significant time and effort to create the decor in keeping with the cabin’s genre. The kitchen is fully equipped and the bathroom and tub are spacious. We loved the fire ring and the fireplace. Daron was attentive and there is plenty of firewood. It is a rural setting, but only a short distance to Asheville. The animals add to the serenity. I’m still missing the fireplace. We would book it again.
My family and I had a wonderful week at the cabin. We needed a break from work, school, and the virtual life. We used our retreat here as an opportunity to unplug (though Wi-Fi is provided if you need it!). The cabin is amazing - so perfectly thought out with space and amenities. The location is fantastic, great for day hikes. We had a few days of rain, but that was somewhat of a blessing by providing us an opportunity to just hang out in the cabin to read books and play board games. Beautiful farm and mountain views from the porches of the cabin, and the fireplace, outdoor fire pit, and bathtub are nice luxuries. Our kids loved seeing the animals, and enjoyed a farm tour and opportunity to pet the goats. We left feeling completely relaxed and recharged.Thank you for such a wonderful stay! You have created a magical space in the North Carolina mountains.
The Eli Reeves cabin was incredible. I couldn't stop walking around the cabin in awe at what a masterpiece it is, thinking about all the people and history that these walls have seen. Check in was more than a breeze. The animals on the farm and their calls were music to our ears. Our favorite was the wood burning fireplace. After exploring the area for the day we couldn't wait to get back to a cozy fire and relax even more. The cabin is spotless and has everything you'll need for your stay. If you like the old time and bluegrass music, you're in luck. There is so much music to go listen to from big stages in Asheville to small coffee shops and little restaurants in small towns (ex. Marshall and Burnsville). We hope to be back next year and this cabin will be our first choice. Do not miss out on this beauty! Thanks again!!
I cannot begin to explain the perfection of this cabin. The pictures do not do it justice! Not only is the property breathtaking, but the cabin is IMMACULATE! My husband and I took our three daughters for a few days and we were all blown away. The antiques are perfectly placed throughout (inside and outside on both porches), while the appliances are all new. Four ( or more ) remote controlled AC/heaters (upstairs and downstairs) worked perfectly. The outdoor fire pit, board games, fresh eggs in the refrigerator- you cannot find a property anywhere with more thoughtful hosts who TRULY have thought of everything. We absolutely are planning on returning. Again, and in summary, the peaceful and breathtaking property is actually equaled by the atmosphere inside the immaculate cabin. We didn’t expect that- and choosing this property will be such a wise decision for all considering visiting Asheville and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Truly, a wonderful cabin and property. If you are looking to have a respite from the normal day to day life, this is place to be. Walking into the cabin with its rustic design and decor you feel an instant sense of peacefulness, with the wood fireplace adding to overall experience. Its location being close to Asheville and other neighboring towns offers guests the ability to venture out to explore and still return to a peaceful and beautiful cabin and property. We will definitely be returning.
I had an incredibly restful and renewing time at the cabin! The hosts were so accommodating by letting us check in early and thought of everything. The kitchen is well stocked with everything needed and the host brought fresh eggs from her chickens on the day of our arrival. The setting on the farm in the woods was serene and I could not have imagined a better place to stay while my daughter was getting married at a nearby venue. I highly reccommend staying and we plan to return!
I cannot say enough good things about our stay at the Eli Reeve's restored 1820's cabin. It's warm and cozy with lots of charming details but it still has all the modern comforts. The photo's do not do this lovely place justice. The location is perfect. Just a hop from Asheville and central to all the best hikes in WNC. Daron & Elizabeth are excellent hosts and were kind enough to give us a little tour of their Hobbyknob Farm. We are looking forward to coming back again.
Mindy and I loved the cabin and it was well furnished with everything we needed. The weather was cool so we had a roaring fire in the fireplace every night. Weaverville is a wonderful town with several excellent restaurants and Ashville is just a short 15-02 minutes away. We will be back next year.
Perfect place for exploring Asheville and the surrounding area
The cabin is even more stunning than the pictures. It is clean, the bed is comfortable, the kitchen is well appointed, and the back porch is a bonus. My husband and I spent two weeks at the cabin in August. We had never been to Asheville and wanted to explore the Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville, the Great Smokey Mountain National Park, and the surrounding areas. This location worked out perfectly for all those trips. After long days of hiking, this was the perfect place to come back to. We stayed with our two poodle mixes and they were very comfortable at the cabin and enjoyed being able to lay out on the porch or join us outside by the fire pit. Daron and Elizabeth were great hosts and were very easy to get in contact with and gave us great advice on where to go and what to do. We even got a farm tour from Elizabeth and got to see the farm animals up close. We can't wait to come back.
Love this cabin! Peaceful and so much attention to little details to bring this 1820 log home into the modern age. Elizabeth and Daron are wonderful hosts and their farm a place to unwind and reconnect with nature and self. Close enough to Asheville to enjoy all the area has to offer !!!
We loved this perfect blend of history and modern amenities. It felt very private with greenery & woods. A quiet space away from traffic. Great spaces to enjoy the outdoors include a front porch, back deck, fire pit & fish pond. We will come back.
From the moment we pulled onto the rolling property until our departure, we were beyond pleased with the Eli Reeves Cabin and its owners, Daron and Elisabeth. Every corner held a surprise for its visitors and Daron and Elisabeth did a beautiful job staying true to the original cabin while also providing the modern comforts we now call necessities. As a pet friendly cabin, we never found ourselves complaining of it being unkept or unclean. It’s one of the cleanest we’ve visited to date. Daron and Elisabeth were always available but rarely seen, despite living in a separate house on their farm, so we were able to achieve the isolation we sought. While equipped with good WiFi, the absence of TVs and poor cellular coverage with AT&T gave us a needed off-the-grid stay. The location of the cabin is engulfed in the surrounding forest but you can still find windows to the open night sky from the porches and outdoor fire pit. During the summer, the engulfing forest comes alive at night with the flashing light of lightening bugs. The cabin is worth a visit and is only a short drive away from Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We certainly hope to return soon.

About the host
Hosted by Daron and Elizabeth
We escaped from Atlanta in 1997 with our 14 month old daughter. Elizabeth has had a love of the mountains since attending camp in the area and spending weekends with her family at their small property in the North GA mountains. Asheville offered mountains and activities without all the traffic. We found the space we craved in the little town of Weaverville that is an easy drive to Asheville.
Why they chose this property
In the sea of choices of choices for lodging we set out to create something special. A chance to share a bit of country life in an authentic historic structure that was built combining period details while building a comfortable space well built with all the creature comforts you'd dream of. Central heat and air, a wood burning fireplace, well equipped kitchen, and large master bath with soaking tub and separate shower. All situated for optimum privacy. Photos don't do this cabin justice!
What makes this property unique
We are close to everything yet far enough away to feel secluded. Activities in our area are extensive. We can recommend many from our own experiences like fly fishing guides, horse back riding or hikes with the best views. Dining options cover a full array of choices. We are close to Asheville and Weaverville, both tourist towns that offer a little of everything.
