This Unique property showcases a 153 foot ocean facing deck with luxurious indoor/outdoor Hawaiian style living. Everything is completely redone and modernized. You could be swimming in Kealakekua Bay, world famous for its spinner dolphins, in less than 3 minutes from the house. The property is also close to renowned Two Steps and directly across the bay from the historical Captain Cook Monument. It is incredibly private and far enough from the hustle and bustle of the town of Kailua Kona to truly relax. This absolutely one of a kind property comfortably sleeps 6 adults. There are 3 king size beds and one pull out queen. There are 3 freshly remodeled full bathrooms. And a brand new kitchen. We also have 2 comfortable roll away beds for extra guests for a additional fee. There are two safes for valuables as well. The house is located on a private road. There is a 9 p.m. noise ordinance for the neighborhood. Noise travels very easily in the bay, you might not see people but you can still hear them. You can always go inside if you want to stay up later. As you come in through the entryway the open tropical style of the place will immediately hit you. The archway through the living room provides uninterrupted views of the bay and the setting sun. The spacious living room provides sleeping space with a king size murphy bed and a full bath. The two master bedrooms both have king size beds which also have incredible views of the bay. But the best part of the house are the unique bathrooms with epic views of the ocean. The fully stocked kitchen is indoor/outdoor and completely modern. Sitting around the island stove preparing a dinner in a group and watching the sunset over the Pacific was a highlight for all the guests we have had. The property is located in a very quiet and private area at the bottom of beautiful Kealakekua Bay overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It is an easy scenic twenty minute ride to the town of Kailua Kona, where you can find many options for restaurants and entertainment. The closest supermarket to the house is called Choice Mart, it's about a ten minute drive from the house, they have good local produce and local fresh fish. There is a cat that has made the property her home and is the most affectionate animal ambassador we could hope for. She is an outdoor cat but very friendly and she loves people. We have a feeding station set up for her in the kitchen and we provide food for her. If you are allergic or don't care for cats this house might not be the right fit for you.

We loved the indoor/outdoor kitchen, the stunning ocean view, the sunsets, the privacy, the friendly cat and be so close to some of the best Big Island snorkeling spots
We spent a week here in early December, and it was truly magical. We appreciated the extensive lanai, outdoor kitchen, and spectacular view. Our host was welcoming and responsive. We found the location to be perfect for exploring snorkeling spots, Volcanoes National Park, and Kona. We would definitely stay here again!
Gorgeous views from this very quiet, secluded property. We loved the outdoor kitchen, bathroom and all the other outdoor spaces. Our family of 4 had a lot of space to spread out. The area felt very safe and is lush and beautiful.
Our Captain Cook stay was pure bliss! Tucked away from the hustle & bustle, this spacious haven offered 3 separate living areas – perfect for a group getaway. The open kitchen was a chef's dream, & local dining options (15 min drive) were fantastic. Snorkeling at Two Step Beach was the icing on the cake!
My teen and tween decided this was “the best rental we’ve ever stayed in.” We loved the outdoor kitchen/dining with the indoor bedrooms. View and location are amazing. You could stay with a larger group and still have privacy due to the layout. Clean, had everything we needed. And we had fun counting lizards.
This is a beautiful house with amazing views. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The cat is very cute and friendly and Gus is a great host. We regretted we couldn't stay longer.
Absolutely beautiful view, loved the outdoor feeling, the geckos, the garden, the sunsets. Outdoor kitchen was fabulous—made cooking magical. Comfortable beds. Worked out great for the five of us. A great place to relax away from the touristy area downtown.
Such a cool open air experience in Hawaii, so much room for 6 adults to spread out and relax. Spectacular view of K-bay and sunsets. Gus & Maggie are A++.
We stayed at three locations on the island during our trip and this is the one my kids didn't want to leave. Amazing view, quiet, clean, well stocked.
The cat that comes with the property was a fun surprise.
What a fantastic property. The sunset views were breathtaking every night. The neighborhood is quiet and beautiful. We spent every waking hour outside, cooking, eating, lounging around the lanai. It was an easy walk down to the local park (Manini Beach) and a harder uphill walk home but not long. Also, no grocery stores or restaurants in easy walking but since we cooked all our own meals that wasn’t a problem. We loved this place!
Lovely house in beautiful location. Felt like we were living in the outdoors with fantastic views of the bay below. Very comfortable beds, bathrooms. House is well supplied, kitchen very functional. And the house cat made us feel right at home. Definitely a place to come back to. And don’t miss the jewel of the little community beach within walking distance on the bay.
This property was so unbelievably amazing and tranquil that we didn't want to leave! Seriously. Personally loved the outdoor living space, finding ourselves just relaxing and taking in the beautiful view. Sunsets, moonsets, tropical breeze, native birds (no roosters!) and the sounds of ocean created a complete zen state of mind. Mahalo for sharing your slice of paradise, Gus!
From the moment we walked in to the house and saw the incredible view we were hooked. We were a group of 8 and found the space very livable and comfortable. The 3 king beds made for a great nights sleep and our two adult kids slept on the pull out couch and that is the only small issue they had that it’s better suited for one person. The property manager, Jon was extremely helpful. This is a special spot if you want to be in a beautiful location that’s quiet and full of nature’s sounds. We loved it and definitely would stay again.
We enjoy our stay in the Captain Cook area very much and are so glad we rented a house rather than book a hotel. The view was spectacular and the open layout was very inviting. We even enjoyed the resident cat, Paele who was the perfect hostess! Gus, the manger, was very helpful during our stay. The only item needing attention were the cleanliness of the floors and woodwork- they are in need of a deep cleaning. Everything else was A+.
I can't imagine returning to the Big Island and not staying here! The best sunsets ever on the best lanai ever. The kitchen is open to the elements and I enjoyed cooking each and every day. Everything you need is here. The location is secluded, but close enough to town. The two master suites are amazing and it is so relaxing it was hard to stay away at night. Gus was amazing to work with and we also enjoyed the resident cat who was very pleasant. I don't know what else to say but for the money this is the place.
Our family had a wonderful stay in this crazy amazing home. The property is beautiful, and spacious. The view of the Captain Cook monument and bay is stunning. Palea the cat is cool she shows up couple times a day to be friendly and get a snack. Kids loved her. The house is BIG. You are an overlooking one of the best snorkeling reefs. Laundry was nice and the bathrooms- just wow! Thanks Gus for your hospitality. We hope to return here in the future.
We had a great stay at this property. Kitchen was well stocked and house was clean. Gus, our host, was very helpful. We enjoyed having the 🐈⬛ visit us. Beds were comfy and washroom facilities were well appointed.
Just a couple of things to note:
- because of the outdoor nature of the property there were a lot of mosquitos and bugs on day 1. Surprisingly not too bad on day 2. In spite of bug spray, we got bit a lot!
- again, this is an open concept house with stairs leading up from the yard, straight into the deck. We were never concerned about security, but something to keep in mind.
Our family had an amazing stay at this house on the Big Island. Our party consisted of my husband and myself, our two teenage boys (15 and 16) and my husband's parents who are in their late 60's. The house was in perfect condition when we arrived. We loved cooking breakfast in the outdoor kitchen area and sharing a rainy afternoon spread out across the expansive porch facing the beautiful ocean. There was plenty of space for all of us to spread out or meet together. We drove (and walked) to the beach that was just down the hill from the house. I would like to note that the beach that is closest is a rockier beach, but that's what most of this area of the Big Island is. My boys and I loved exploring the rocky shores. There were several little "nooks" that some locals showed us to hang out in. All of it, including the house, was really breathtaking. Communication with the owner/manager was really easy and they were very responsive. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone. Mahalo for an incredible stay!
We spent a week in December at this unique property, and really loved it. The views and privacy are amazing, and the owner was nearby whenever we need him (which was not often). The layout of this place is unique with most of the common areas outdoor under a large deck that connects the three master bedrooms. Pictures are accurate. To love this place you will need to be comfortable with lots of geckos, some bugs, etc. If you leave the lights on outdoors at night you may attract a lot of harmless tiny gnats, which we quickly learned to avoid. All part of being outdoors in this wonderful part of Hawaii. I'd call it luxury plus funkiness. Everything worked great and the place was well stocked - great dishes, appliances, some spices and basic food prep stuff, snorkel gear, beach towels. There is also an outdoor cat that spends time on the deck, and was a real pleasure. We look forward to returning.
Our family fell in love with this property. The open air kitchen was perfect for family dinners. We did have to get some citronella candles to keep mosquitoes away but that’s fairly expected up in the trees on an open lanai. What we loved best was the open feel with just enough quality touches without feeling so fancy you couldn’t relax. Even our teenagers asked to come back to this house some day.
Check in was easy , communication was great via email. We had the late flight in so it was nice to be able to just flop onto a clean bed when we hit the house. Pantry storage was a little tight for our Costco run but almost everything went into the fridge to avoid bugs.
The views were spectacular. The Murphy bed in the living room gave us the third room with a bathroom we needed for our teenage son. Easy drive to anything you want to do. Definitely follow the directions from the property owner email to make it an easy find.
This made for a relaxing, beautiful, homey vacation!
We stayed at this property for 7 nights. It was the absolutely most perfect place for us. It was amazing. Between the flowering tropical plants, the open kitchen and the deck that runs the entire length of the home, the amazing weather and gorgeous views, we didn't want to leave. Gus was great. Attentive, and offered suggestions when we asked. There is a covered parking area for your vehicle. The house was very well equipped. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked, too. We didn't have problems with bugs. We kept the lights low at night in the open areas. We kept the house open and the breeze did an excellent job of keeping the indoor spaces quite comfortable. My husband and I spent most of the mornings sipping our coffee and watching the kayaks and some swimmers! heading across the bay towards the Captain Cook monument. The area was very quiet, which was perfect for us. Our kids loved Paele, the house cat. She was very friendly, and showed up for pets and the occasional snack. Be sure to read the handbook for the home. It contained lots of useful info about stores, restaurants and beaches. We enjoyed Manini Beach. The caretaker there was very friendly and told us about the area and the community gardens. It was a great place to watch the sunset. We are so glad that we stayed at this property. It exceeded all of our expectations.
This is a truly unique property with a standout outdoor kitchen and an expansive patio that offers stunning views of the bay — especially at sunset. The location is fantastic, with easy access to snorkeling spots and plenty of opportunities for exploring the surrounding nature. I really appreciated the peaceful setting, the refreshing breeze, and the chance to spend so much time outdoors watching wildlife and soaking in the scenery. The house itself is comfortable and functional, though it does show some signs of wear and has more of a rental property feel compared to others I’ve stayed in. That said, the setting more than makes up for it, and I’d gladly return for the views, outdoor space, and connection to nature.
