Lovely, helpful hosts, very well equipped and nicely decorated flat, impressive garden. Convenient location with shops, restaurants and transport options. Brazilian and Portuguese shops and restaurants in the area are an added bonus. We'll hopefully be back soon!
Overall a great stay - flat is slightly older so not the newest accommodations. A 10 minute walk from nearest tube stations but overall a very solid choice for the price, which was very reasonable. Hosts were very helpful and responsive.

The flat is well located near the northern and victoria lines. The neighborhood is nice. The flat is in somewhat poor maintenance. The kitchen sink is cranky, the dishwasher have seen better days. Lighting is poor. The property was listed as having a washing machine and a dryer which it doesn't. The owner and the cleaning lady kindly to let us use the downstairs flat washing machine. There was only one key which the owner claimed was the fault of previous guests, but from other reviews it appears there never was a second one. There's a charming garden that we didn't use as it is still cold.Good value for money I think but personally I wouldn't return.
We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed our stay immensely. The tube stop is easily accessible and the backyard garden a true gem. We would happily return!
Pros - friendly property owners; ample space; convenience store across the street; on bus routes; good people watching; restaurants nearbyCons - it was a little further out of the way from major attractions than expected - about 45 mins for us because we were unfamiliar with the transit system; lots of stairs to go up and down - more than expected. All in all, quite a good place to stay.

Thanks very much for your feedback, Carol and the nice things you said about the apartment. Sorry you found the stairs problematic.
London is a big city and our location is fairly central. We are located in Zone 2 and it takes around 25 mins door to door to get to the Houses of Parliament or Buckingham Palace for example. Of course there are apartments where you could get there in 5, 10 or 15 minutes. But you would be paying double, triple or quadruple to what you pay with us.
Like other reviews have said, this is a gem. The property is well kept, the owner and his dog very friendly and welcoming, and the location is great. We would absolutely stay again.
A typical English Victorian-style apartment, very well maintained and clean. Perfectly located — just an 8-minute walk to the Underground. Ideal for exploring London

Beautiful place!
We spent a few days in this apartment. It’s well located and the apartment is pretty nice. Perfect for a stay of four people.
Our family of four had a great stay in the flat. We loved meeting Bruno! The hosts were very helpful and friendly and made us feel right at home. We would definitely stay again!

Dear Amanda
Thanks so much for the great.
We hope that you returned safely home.
You were our last pre-Corona guests. The situation changed so fast with the lock downs in both of our countries. All the very best wishes, stay safe and healthy.
Fab location for a really enjoyable family trip to london. Hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful including Bruno the dog) and the space was ideal for chilling out in the evenings after a busy day. Highly recommended.
We had a lovely stay in this rental. The location was great and the host was very accomodating. It's a great place for those who want to stay in a neighborhood setting while still being a short tube ride to central London. I highly recommend!
We really enjoyed our stay and are hoping to visit again! The flat had everything we needed and the location offered easy access to the tube and bus lines. The hosts were ultra accommodating and made us feel welcome. We had an excellent time!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Ben and Nico were communicative, so we knew just what to expect on arrival. The suite was just as advertised. East access to the tube, and a short walk to cafes, pubs, etc. We’d definitely stay here again.
Ben and Nic made our stay so enjoyable with their warm welcome and recommendations of neighbourhoods to visit and sights to see.
The flat was spacious and comfortable for our party of 3
Ok, you have to keep in mind the property is over 200 years old. Would recommend for the more adventurous traveler. Everything worked and was functional in the house. You have the whole private top floor which is cool. Good location close to all public transportation and have a grocery across the street. This is in a busy area of London so a lot of road sounds and the building next door was being renovated at the time with a bit of truck and construction noise. My wife would have preferred more of an upscale place but I liked the London feel.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this apartment---it was comfortable for our family of five (two adults and three teens), is located close to the tube for easy travel, and was within easy walking distance of shopping areas and parks. The owners of the property were available and friendly. The garden is an absolute oasis! Highly recommend.
I'm giving this place 3 stars because of the sofa/sofa bed and the key situation. The sofa was very uncomfortable as a sofa and especially as a bed. We could feel the springs on the sofa bed mattress, so had to layer it with a comforter in order to sleep. We were a group of 5, but we only had one key for the door. I would also say it's not great for toddlers/young children because of the furniture and glass table. The best thing about it is the location near the tube and Brixton Market.
Very friendly and helpful hosts, lovely apartment and lots of good insight regarding the neighborhood and getting around London. We loved the dogs, Bruno and Mowgli! Initially there was some difficulty with communication through the VRBO platform but apparently it is due to some ongoing IT issues that are being ironed out. Once we were all on the same page there were no problems at all. Fantastic hosts, we truly hope to visit again! Recommended!
The apartment is very roomy and had everything we needed for a family of 4. We liked having the experience of being in a neighborhood vs a tourist area. You do walk through the owner's part of the house to access the apartment, but the owners are very friendly and it wasn't an issue. We felt safe in the neighborhood.
Great property that is away from London Central but a short walk to the tube and 4-5 stops to Trafalgar square. Excellent hosts though we suspect Bruno (the dog) is the real organiser. There are stairs which was no problem for us but worth noting. Very cosy
I spent months deciding on which flat to book for my family’s trip to London, and I definitely ended up picking the perfect one. The flat itself is clean, roomy, and comfortable. And we found the location to be perfect - it’s in a quiet neighborhood, but it’s so easy to get into central London on either the tube or the bus. Nico and Ben were both so welcoming and kind, and that’s what truly made the stay memorable. We enjoyed chatting with them in the garden, and my youngest loved feeding the turtles. And I can’t leave out Bruno, whom my kids all said was the best dog they met on our trip (and we did meet a lot!) If we’re lucky enough to make it back to London, we’ll definitely be staying again.
My family really enjoyed our stay in the upper apartment. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating (even had chocolates for our kids).
The location is easily accessible to the Tube, and the Brixton Village and Brixton Pop were a short walk away for shopping and eating.
The entrance to the upper apartment is via the owners' living area. So in that sense, it is somewhat similar to a "bed and breakfast". It felt like being guests in a home (but the upper apartment has a lockable door and is fully contained).
Highly recommended, and I was sorry to not be able to say "goodbye" to the hosts when we left.

About the host
Hosted by Ben Brandstaetter
Hello, we are Nic & Ben and renting out two holiday apartments in the townhouse which we bought in 2006 and renovated it. The building dates from 1780, one of the oldest building in Stockwell, SW central London . Its been the vicarage building of Stockwell Church for nearly 200 years ,
We both love gardening too and if you stay you'll probably see us weeding or maybe tending the chicken who live in an 'eglu' at the bottom of the garden or the turtles in our pond
We love London, so if you've got a question about the capital, don't hesitate to ask. Additional to English Nic speaks Spanish and French, Ben speaks German (as Austrian)
Why they chose this property
The moment we saw the house, we fell in love with it. It is one of the oldest in area , having been built in 1790 as the vicarage for the local church of Saint Andrews. Stockwell is central but not touristy - it takes just 8 minutes by tube to reach Victoria. It's a multicultural neighbourhood that we are proud to live in and is close to the vibrant districts of Vauxhall, Brixton and Clapham.
What makes this property unique
Large windows flood it with light and the 30-metre (100 ft) back garden is unusual in London for being such a good size. When we moved in, the house was in a sorry state, dilapidated and having been used as a squat. We've now restored it to its former glory uncovering marble fireplaces that had been painted over with white paint and lovely wooden floor boards in the process. We love living here and we love having guests to stay.
