Highland Sage: Downtown Oasis, Private Fenced Yard and Relaxing Patio

With the Highland Sage as your home base in Durango, you will be able to park your car and walk everywhere in town. Walk four blocks and arrive at the heart of downtown with its restaurants, cafes, shops and the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.

The home is a pleasant and comfortable half-duplex with a fully enclosed landscaped back yard with patio and grill. There are three bedrooms and one bath. Kitchen and bath are updated and kitchen is well-equipped with stainless steel pots and pans, nice dishware, and organic staples. The queen bedroom is on one side of the living room and kitchen, and the double and single rooms are on the other side. The twin room contains a desk should guests want a dedicated workspace. The Highland Sage offers plenty of storage in closets, kitchen cabinetry, and a large mudroom which is great for gear storage. The beds are are solid, plush and comfortable. A good night's sleep is key! Evaporative cooling in the Summer also provides for restful nights.

In addition to Main Avenue and downtown, walk several blocks to the Nature Trail and Sky Steps. The neighborhood is pedestrian and dog-friendly and the block on which the Highland Sage resides is especially quiet and peaceful.

Guests are welcome to bring two pups, provided they don't get on furniture and aren't big barkers. No cats (sorry). Note that after booking, you will receive a brief rental agreement to review and sign with basic items such as no parties or events and pet authorization if applicable.

The Highland Sage has dedicated use of the fenced backyard while the other half of the duplex has dedicated use of the front deck, allowing for privacy and each for each of the homes.

The Highland Sage has a large entry room for gear storage and extensive kitchen cabinetry. With this and the backyard to stretch out, the Highland Sage is a great choice for longer stays.

August 2025 Note - The Highland Sage is an active rental but has in recent years been rented via sites other than Vrbo. I now list exclusively on Vrbo, and the Highland Sage will be available for rent starting in September 2025.

I love that this duplex is right downtown where guests can park and walk everywhere. While many may drive out for adventures during the day, they can park at night and walk to Main Ave. Others choose to just leave the car completely and walk everywhere - such a great way to decompress and so relaxing. I love that while the home is so central, it also has a quiet, peaceful feel.

The backyard in the warmer months is an oasis - green and lush and spacious right in the heart of downtown. The Highland Sage layout is a little funky, but very functional, clean and fresh, well-equipped with essentials, and with lots of storage space for gear. For those with pups, the backyard can make all the difference in vacation, and anything that allows people to completely relax during their time away brings me joy.

Ideal location. Five-minute walk to the heart of downtown restaurants, shops and historic train. Fully enclosed, landscaped backyard. Dedicated work space (if not using twin bed for sleep space) overlooking yard. In addition to downtown, the Nature Trail and Sky Steps up to Fort Lewis College are just a few blocks away. Easy launch spot for everything in town and a peaceful place to which to return and relax.
