Just had a wonderful stay at Ox Glenn Coach House. The unit was clean and comfortable, and the Host was very accommodating. Can't wait to return in the summer.

We do our very best for all of our guests, to achieve that five star review. We will admit, at times unforeseen circumstances challenges us but with good communications we resolve problems in a timely professional manor. We are blessed that many of our guests returned again and again We cherish and encourage those opportunities. When you show up everything is there for you you just bring your favorite food and drinks and the rest is up to us.
Beautiful area. We were there during leaf change, amazing! House is 2 Miles from The Blue Ridge Parkway and wonderful hiking. Larry Is an amazing host. He quickly addressed any issues that arose, generally the same day!

A five star review is always music to our ears. unfortunately, we don’t always win those types of reviews. I appreciate that this guest understands that we do all we can to resolve issues when they arise. We try to take care of issues before the guest arrive, but sometimes we have missed it. I wish all Guests knew that they can just simply ask for our help and we will come because we consider ourselves on call when a guest is at our home. We depend on this business in our retirement, so we do take it seriously. Sometimes cobwebs mysteriously appear, even though we’ve cleaned them before the guest arrives. We thoroughly clean the home, launder all the linens and towels clean all the dishes sanitize the counters so that our guests understand we have done all we can to keep it clean for their arrival. This can be a challenge when a guest doesn’t seem to care if it’s clean when they leave we appreciate all five star reviews. We hope that we can resolve issues with the guest weather in our home, and not get a bad review after they leave because they didn’t ask for help
Very nice, cozy place in an excellent location for our needs. Weather was beautiful for our Christmas visit with family and the Coach House had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. Unfortunately we did not have enough time to explore the property. King size bed was a winner! Would stay here again and highly recommend.
We were in Asheville for a week and had a great time. While we really enjoyed the quiet and solitude of the Ox Creek Coach House, the drive back to the house after a full day of activity could be somewhat daunting, especially on dark, rainy evenings. The roads were very curvy and dark. Fortunately not a lot of traffic! Other than the travel to and from the house, everything else was very nice. The place was well equipped for cooking. The furnishings and ambiance were very warm and welcoming. Morning walks were very pleasant. All in all a really good place to stay. Just be aware that getting there can take a bit of time on very curvy roads. I definitely recommend approaching the property from Weaverville rather than Asheville -- less curves!

We appreciate this review for many reasons. It tells us that this guest, as the majority of our guests, love our home and the countryside setting. It also tells us that for some, the Appalachian Mountain terrain can be a very different place then the flatter terrain of their home. Asheville lies in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, which is why our guests love to visit. It has some of the finest Fall color and beautiful mountain vistas of anywhere in the U.S. We have the highest peaks east of the Rocky Mountains, and our roads are definitely mountainous and curvy. Because of the mountains, we have world renowned waterfalls, great hiking trails, wildlife, and endless outdoor activities to enjoy. The Blue Ridge Parkway, is a National Scenic Highway, and their safety message is “Enjoy the View, Watch the Road”. This is the best advice I can give to our guests. In comparison to many mountain homes, locals would agree that our home has very safe access. We are located at the base of the mountain, and not up on the mountain as so many homes here are. Ox Glen has 4 vacation homes, including Tree Tops, Pine Cone, Song Bird, and ours which is the Coach House. The other home are located off of our private drive that go up the mountain, and unless you are used to mountain driving, it can be scary especially in the Winter. The country roads that bring you to the Coach House are curvy, but from Weaverville they have much less grade. These roads are paved and are plowed in Winter. The access from Blue Ridge Parkway is both steep and curvy, but just require you do not let yourself get too distracted to the beautiful vistas that surround you. When reviewing vacation homes in Western NC, be aware that many homes are located off poorly maintained gravel roads, and very scary roads such as Town Mountain Road, Glenn Mountain Scenic Highway, or many others. In comparison, you will find the drive to our home pleasant, much less scary, and as safe as it gets.
I booked Ox Creek because I had to get out of the city
First impression, well kept
Next day, telecommute on the porch, then a walk in the Rhododendron Garden by OxCreek
Beers at Blue Moon Pizza that evening
Next morning only sound a bubbling creek
Lasting impression
Perfect tranquility.

We always appreciate a review that keeps us informed of how we are doing, and what we can do better. We know the location of this home is something the majority of our guests appreciate. The convenience to outdoor adventures are close at hand. Asheville is a great place to vacation with all of its breweries, restaurants, galleries, shops and night life, and you will find this just a short distance away. Ox Creek, which passes this home just on the opposite side of the driveway is very tranquil, and the sound of birds chirping around the property very relaxing and comforting. We will insure a super clean home, conveniences, and comfort for your stay. We will do our best to keep improving with each guest.
We appreciate this review, because while it is brief, it is what our home is in a nutshell. Quiet and peaceful is accurate and what we strive to give our guests. You will find this home clean, comfortable, and cozy. We have taken care to give you and experience beyond what you could find in any Hotel. Like a Hotel you will have clean sheets, bedding, towels, and some toiletries. Unlike a Hotel, you will have a well-supplied kitchen, privacy, and a large deck with a grill to call all of your own. You will enjoy this downstairs home all to yourself. There is also a full unit upstairs that can be rented together, with your guests if available. While we strive to be a 5 star experience to everyone, we know that realistically that is not always possible. People have different ideals about what 5 star means, and we understand that. It is our goal to be a 5-star vacation home for as many people as possible. You will find that we work hard to achieve that. You will enjoy the country to the peaceful sounds of the creek and birds singing. You will find that outdoor opportunities surround you, Restaurants, shops, and breweries are a short drive to Asheville, Weaverville, or Black Mountain. Enjoy either ot stay in to that peace and quiet.
What a cozy, welcoming unit. When you pull up you feel the stress melt away, when you enter you feel like you've been wrapped in a warm embrace. All of the convenience of home, the serenity of the mountains and the calming sound of the creek as you sit on the swing on the porch. I can't say enough about this property. It was clean, well equipped and in great order. The property owners were so helpful and available if we needed them. This was a getaway for the family and I assure you, we will return time and again. Don't pass this jewel up, it's worth the trip.

We love this review because it reflects what we wish to accomplish with this home. We hope all of our guests feel very at home, welcomed, comfortable and cozy. We want your needs to be fully met. without the feeling you are missing something. It is helpful for us to know what things you plan to do in the area. If you are hikers, we can provide some walking sticks. If your golfers. we could provide a set of clubs. If you have dogs, we can provide an extra dog bed, dog dishes, and perhaps an extra sheet or blanket to cover the furniture your pet might lie on. If we cannot provide for what you plans are, we know the area very well and might offer some recommendations, directions, or at least some helpful advice. This guest rented both the upstairs and downstairs and made it a real family event. It was Grandparents and their children. If we can make a family happy on their getaway, we have accomplished our goal for having a vacation rental. We find it rewarding to give guests a great place to stay that feels like their home away from home. We strive to remove your apprehensions or your sense of uncertainty and let your worries melt away as this guest so aptly related. We truly enjoy having you as our guest and we will be there for you if there is a need. It is our policy to give our guests their privacy, but could be there to resolve a need as we do not live far away. You will have complete privacy and the peacefulness of this home and place will encompass you. The sound of the creek running by is enchanting and the frog sounds will lull you to sleep. It is our pleasure to be your host and we truly hope that comes through to all of our guests.
We beat the crowd and vacaed weekday.
Hung out a lot outdoors, the roaring creek
wonderful. The porch, so cool, sat on the swing.
Opened up the windows and turned off the air.
Slept late, went to Mount Pisgah for lunch.
Blue Ridge Parkway is 2 miles away.
Cooked out on the porch for dinner
Day 2 went to River Arts District for lunch at 12 Bones
and Gallery Crawl, only a 24 minute drive to Asheville.
Did yoga down by the creek! A perfect spot.
Be back soon!

We are so happy that this guest felt right at home and felt that being in the Coach House was a great part of their vacation. This is what we strive to achieve by providing a clean home with comfortable beds including sheets, pillows and blankets and by keeping a well-supplied kitchen and bathrooms. This is a very quiet, and relaxing home that is comforted by the sounds of running water in Ox Creek. We feel this home is exceptionally located to provide the ideal opportunity to take advantage of the vacation opportunities that the Blue Ridge Parkway has to offer. Our guests enjoy the solitude of the surrounding forests and mountains, the creek and singing birds that surround you. It is a retreat from city life for those who are not accustomed to the peacefulness of the countryside. Our guests enjoy this country feeling without loss of being connected to what the surrounding communities of Asheville and Weaverville have to offer. I appreciate that this guest so aptly spoke of their experience in this home and all the enjoyment of being on vacation in the Asheville area, that this home opened up for them. We will strive to do our best in giving this experience to others who vacation with us. We worked on Blue Ridge Parkway for many years, so we can be a great guide to our visitors on how best to enjoy it. Teresa has lived in the area all her life and I have resided here for 19 years. We love the area and can give you touring advice tailored to what you might most enjoy doing. We recommend you learn more about the area through exploreasheville.com, before arriving. Visit NPS.com and study more about Blue Ridge Parkway. The area is surrounded by hiking trails, waterfalls, and beautiful countryside. Blue Ridge Parkway is always listed as one of the top ten scenic routes in the United States and it is at your door step. You will have the opportunity to see spectacular mountain panoramas, hike to a waterfall to have lunch or to see mountain sides filled with flowering laurels and rhododendrons, or spectacular fall color unlike any you could have seen before. Please come to be our guests and enjoy life as this couple has done, whether you stay a few nights or a few weeks. It is our pleasure to provide you a stay in our comfortable home where you will enjoy a most memorable vacation.
The accommodations were everything I needed.
Very quiet location near a babbling brook.
I would differently stay there again.

We feel Ox Glen is convenient to all there is to do in Asheville and Weaverville, because this home is so well located to either location. An Asheville ordinance only permits short term rentals in the downtown area or in the River Arts District. The rentals are expensive in these areas, and they are generally an apartment or a condominium as there are few houses in these locations. Otherwise, in Asheville you can generally only rent a room or perhaps a furnished basement in someone’s home within the Asheville city limits. Ox Glen is about as close to Asheville as you could hope to be where you can enjoy the privacy, convenience, and relaxation of being in a house all to yourself. Ox Glen allows you to enjoy the beautiful mountain valley countryside filled with historic farms and great scenery, instead of having the city surround you. You can enjoy all the activities that this area has to offer, while you relax in your own home away from the bustle of traffic. This gentleman was taking a class in woodturning by a teacher who resides just down the road. Asheville and Weaverville are a center for the arts of many types, and you could enjoy taking art classes or visiting the many distinguished art galleries in the area. Hop on your bike and take Reems Creek Road right to Blue Ridge Parkway for some Nationally renowned bicycle touring along the most popular section of the Parkway for bicycle touring. The beautiful Craggy Gardens, Mount Mitchell, Mount Pisgah are a short drive away. We provide you with all you need to enjoy your stay without having to brings bedding, towels, cooking supplies or most anything you likely have in your own home. All your really need do is bring something to eat and drink. We provide a variety of coffee and teas for you so you can enjoy a cup out on your private deck, while you contemplate what adventures you plan to have that day. Many people who come to Asheville want to see the Biltmore Estate, so from Ox Glen you can take the Parkway and arrive there in about 20 minutes or so. Asheville is considered one of the best places to visit in the nation as well as to retire in. If you have come here to look for your own home but need a place to stay for a little longer than a week, just give us a shout and we may be able to work out something for you. This home has been a get away for people since 1996 and we are proud to continue on with that great tradition.
The online listing is true! We opened our doors and heard the rushing water of the little creek below the property. Our dogs had plenty to explore and the trails were very close by. Downtown Weaverville was a quick 12-15 minutes down the road and Asheville was no more than 30 minutes. Very easy to access using the mountain roads!
We recommend the Creperie, Blue Mountain pizza, and the Bakery/Cafe!! Tell Sammie we say hey if you dine for pizza, she was the best waitress!
Our excitement increased upon swinging on the porch in the shady breeze while letting our dogs roam freely inside the gate. It was very peaceful and quiet.
The inside of the home was well kept and well decorated. We did not feel as though we were left stranded for supplies or without amenities. The owners were also easy to communicate with and answered all of our questions.
Our only complaint is that the family staying above us was a little noisy. It sounded like they were moving chairs and tables around and dropping things at 9:00 AM. Otherwise, we didn’t even know anyone was there as we couldn’t hear their tv, talking, or music.
We would definitely recommend this home and plan to contact the owners again should we come into the area!

About the host
Hosted by Larry and Teresa Hultquist
Larry grew up in the upper peninsula of Michigan on a farm in a family of 13 children. He studied Landscape Architecture from Michigan State University. Larry had a 35-year career with the National Park Service, and worked as a Project Manager, for Blue Ridge Parkway for the last 12 years of that career. Teresa is an Asheville native, grew up in a family of 6 children, and worked most of her career with Blue Ridge Parkway as a fee collection specialist. We met on Blue Ridge Parkway, and were married in 2014, when Larry lost his first wife Molly. When Teresa and I were married we each had our own home. We moved into Teresa's home together and I rented my cabin home (Molly's Ridgetop Cabin Retreat) as a vacation rental for 4 years. Unfortunately, a local ordinance in Asheville ended short term rentals for most property owners in Asheville. We purchased this home with the intended purpose to rent as a vacation rental. This home is as close as you can get to Asheville, while being outside of the city limits. Most homes in Asheville can now only be rented partially such as a basement or an extra bedroom with shared kitchen. Larry has been a landlord for over 25 years, owning a 12-unit apartment building and two vacation rental homes. We are experienced property managers and are proud of our great review history in the other vacation rental properties we had once owned. Ox Glenn Coach house is now the only vacation rental property we own This property has become a retirement income to us and we enjoy the people who come to visit. We love the area and we love sharing this home with our guests. With our experience in Asheville, we can be very competent vacation guides for the area, so feel free to ask questions about things to do and places to go. We do vacation in this home ourselves because we love the peace and quiet, and the countryside in which it is located
Why they chose this property
We purchased this home because it has nearly a 25-year history as a vacation rental in the Asheville area, with great 5 star reviews. Teresa and I are artists and together we are opening up a pottery studio in this home's garage. We both enjoy making pottery, we both paint and Teresa also makes Jewelry. We love hiking the many trails within close proximity to this home. I enjoy golfing at area Golf Course and we too love to travel, while staying in vacation homes. This is truly a great outdoor enthusiast get away and is very peaceful and quiet with the sounds of Ox Creek to keep you company. On this property and in the surrounding countryside, we have seen bear, deer, turkey, fox and many other wildlife and it is a great place to bird watch. You can pick berries at the local farms or take an organic farm tour in the immediate area. We love how close the property is to Blue Ridge Parkway, and for those who love bicycling, this is an ideal location because Blue Ridge Parkway is one of the nations premier touring roads. You will enjoy the trails, scenic touring, and some of the best Fall colors in the U.S.
What makes this property unique
This home is specially located to enjoy all that the Blue Ridge Parkway has to offer, which is only 2 miles away. It is a 10-minute drive to the Parkway Visitor Center where you can learn about its trails, popular bicycle touring and mountain bicycling routes and most any outdoor activity there is to offer in the area. We love the quiet rural setting with its historic farms, views across open fields to the Appalachian Mountains beyond. You will enjoy the beautiful Ox Creek within sight and sound of your deck. You can grill out on the deck and eat your supper on at our picnic table along Ox Creek, just across the driveway from the home. This home is highly convenient to downtown Asheville with all of its night life, shopping, museums, antique shops, restaurants, microbreweries, theaters, distilleries, the Biltmore House, and all that Asheville has to offer. We enjoy the historic town of Weaverville, less than 15 minutes away because it has some of our favorite restaurants, galleries, and things to do, You have year around activities here with all there is to do in summer and skiing in winter. This is a duplex home with a 1 Br. 1 Ba home, which comfortable sleeps 2 guests or the 2 Br 2 Ba home on the upper level, which comfortably sleeps 6. Each unit can be rented separately or both units can be rented together with family or friends, if available. You can make a trip to the Biltmore Estate for the day, which is less than a 20-minute drive away along the scenic parkway, elk mountain scenic highway, or other country roads through Weaverville.
