We stayed here for three nights with our 3 year old and loved our entire stay. The hosts checked in at the beginning of our stay to see if we had any questions. They were kind and friendly which made our stay feel comfortable. The house was clean and organized and seemed very well kept. It was close to the areas we wanted to visit but far enough away from Santa Fe to make it seem secluded and relaxing. Highly recommend!
We were unpleasantly surprised when we had to risk getting stuck and /or swept away on a muddy, sandy road.
The host met us and told us he was afraid that he would get stuck in the mud. He also stated that he intentionally left out that detail because it never rains that hard.
We asked for assistance from the host if we got stuck and the host stated he wouldn’t help and then left town
We were not aware of this risk and would not have rented this property if this important detail was not intentionally left out.
We decided to leave instead of risking the probability of not having a place to stay or getting swept down the road and no assistance from the host.
The host then sent an email where he agreed to re-rent our remaining nights but never released the dates. We sent him several unanswered messages asking him to take care of this and he never fulfilled his part of the agreement.
If this road is not a issue according to the host then it should be included in the description. The host is dishonest and doesn’t keep his word.
Host has multiple Casistas in this area with the same flooding hazards. Don’t rent from Bob and Mary or Mary’s Nice rentals (how they get around paying VRBO fees).

Stayed 5 nights in Jul 2022
Response from VrboOwner on 17 August 2022
Our description of our property is accurate as evidenced by dozens of 5-star reviews. We state that we are in rural Northern New Mexico. There is a 1000' road leading to our property that is dirt (as are 3/4 of the roads in New Mexico). The monsoon season in New Mexico is from June until September, therefore, it can rain. While we do everything we can to provide guests with a five-star experience; unfortunately we do not control the weather. We believe these guests left after two nights due to the weather and wanted a refund for the remaining nights and hence blamed us for a county-maintained road which is level and not at all hazardous. We never said the things these guests claim, (you don't get dozens of five-star reviews by treating guests in this manner, please note these guests had no reviews on VRBO) We have had to contact VRBO multiple times asking them to get these guests to stop contacting us. We do not recommend renting to these guests.
We had a wonderful week at Casa Lucky. The house is roomy and comfortable and very quiet at night. You barely hear a thing. It is about 16 miles from Santa Fe and just off the High Road to Taos, so if your explorations include areas beyond Santa Fe, it sits in a perfect place for those. Highlights of our visit other than Santa Fe attractions included hiking at the Ghost Ranch (former home of Georgia O'Keeffe, stunning landscape) and a soak at Ojo Caliente, a hot springs resort.
My wife and I absolutely loved the property and our stay. The only negative was we could not stay longer. But we will next time. Great home base for day trips in Santa Fe area and close enough to hit Taos for a day. Our hosts great (Mary & Bob ??) were in touch and responsive. I highly recommend this place to everyone. Except when we want to stay there. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
I had a wonderful stay at Lucky Casita. It was out of the way and the directions to get to the property were clear and easy to follow. The home was beautiful and comfortable, and really enhanced my overall trip. I would definitely recommend staying here for your next Santa Fe getaway.
This is a really amazing hacienda and we enjoyed it immensely! One of us was a little disappointed in the vineyard. Great southwest ambiance. We highly recommend. The location/distance from Santa Fe was not an issue.
The next time we head to New Mexico on vacation, we (my wife, teenage daughter and I) will have our fingers firmly crossed that Casa Lucky is available. Our recent five-night stay there was wonderful from the moment we arrived; we are grateful to owners Mary and Bob for being such gracious hosts. The property and the surrounding area are stunningly beautiful. The location offers easy access in under 30 minutes to most places in Santa Fe and Los Alamos, and one of our favorite New Mexican restaurants – Rancho de Chimayo – is just ten minutes up the road toward Taos. Casa Lucky itself is beautifully furnished, fully equipped with everything we needed, spacious and peaceful.
Directions to the property were excellent. When we stepped into the house we instantly fell in love with it. It was clean, well decorated, well stocked, comfortable, and had a beautiful view of the mountains. It was located near the hiking trails we wanted to visit. The owners were very nice. They checked in on us the first day to make sure everything was to our liking. Checking in and out were a breeze. We will definitely go back and hopefully be able to stay longer than 5 days.
My husband and I wanted a peaceful retreat outside of Santa Fe, and that is exactly what we got. Very pretty little hacienda out in the countryside, off a dirt road, quiet and private. Very clean, too, and all amenities provided, including good coffee. There are a couple other guest haciendas on the property, but this hacienda is set well apart and facing away from them into the vineyard (with a glimpse of snow-covered mountaintop in the distance), with two walled private patios (one facing the vineyard), and we neither saw nor heard any neighbors. It was very relaxing and quiet. Being early spring the trees were not leafed out, but there were many birds and we were able to open the windows during the daytime, and their singing filled the hacienda all day. It's also an easy drive to sights and activities if you want that; we didn't, we just really enjoyed the peacefulness and quiet. It was a very restful stay.
Also really appreciated the bottle of wine the owner provided, the little propane grill outside (we grilled every night), and the small firepit. The owner stopped by our first night to make sure we had everything we needed and give us tips about the best drives and hikes in the area, and we had a really nice conversation with him. In all we loved it, and would happily stay there again.
Casa Lucky was a beautiful place!! I loved having my morning coffee looking out the picture window overlooking the vineyard and mountains. Heated floors were an added bonus since we were there when it snowed. Great location and kind hosts who live very close. We’ll definitely be back!!!
Large Casita, so we had plenty of room to spread out without feeling cluttered. Bob was very helpful when we needed anything. The kitchen is large, with lots of counter space, which is good for folks like me who have to make my own food, due to so many restrictions. The negative is that the countertops are inlaid tile (in keeping with the architecture. But the tiles aren't flat, in addition to the grout.
The heat is all radiant heat from under the floors. It really works well.
The location was perfect for us. Yes, it's a 25-30 minute drive into Santa Fe, but we were more interested in hiking than wandering downtown. So we were better located for that. In addition, the quiet and the views from the back of the casita were beyond compare!
It was a great stay!
Casa Lucky was just what we needed to explore both Santa Fe and Taos without having to endure the crowds, noise and traffic of Santa Fe. The adobe house is overly-spacious, secluded and quiet. The master bed is huge, probably a California king size, a real treat. And the location is perfect: you can get to Santa Fe, Taos, Bandelier, Los Alamos all within 30-40 minutes. Probably the best VRBO we have stayed in..
We loved our stay at Casa Lucky in Nambe. It was just a short hop to Santa Fe and a bit of a longer drive to Taos. We explored the area more than if we had stayed in either Santa Fe or Taos. The accommodations were wonderful and arrived to find all the staples we needed in the cupboards, a bottle of wine, and a private well-appointed home. Thanks so much Mary and Bob.
The property overall was very nice. The owners were very friendly, responsive and helpful. The location was quiet and peaceful. The house had everything that we needed. The only comments we have are that the bed was not a sleep number that we could see (no controls) and the frame squeaked pretty badly; there is a dirt road that is kind of rough going to the house, and there is no air conditioning; however, at night the temperatures cooled down enough with all the windows open and fans going, it was tolerable. Overall, it was a nice place to stay and close to the market and restaurants.
We have worked very hard since moving to NM in 2016 to create an adorable collection of affordable casitas to meet a variety of housing needs. The result has been a highly rated & reviewed collection of Vacation Casita rentals for our Guests to enjoy during their valuable time away from home here in the Santa Fe area.
Why they chose this property
