Tranquility Gate House on beautiful estate on Frenchman's Bay

Tranquility Gate House is part of a 9.5 acre estate with access to 1000 feet of shore front and private deep water dock on Frenchman's Bay just 5 minutes from downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Go beach combing on our 2 private rocky Maine beaches with views across the bay to Schoodic mountain and Bar Harbor, or stroll one of the many nature paths along the shore through the gardens and around 2 ponds.
There's also bocce and a croquet court and large open lawns for your outdoor activities. Spend your afternoons and evenings on the new, large deck overlooking the sweeping lawn and gardens with peekaboo views of the Bay. The deck has a big table for outdoor family dining and comfortable chairs and lounges to relax on throughout the day. There is also a separate screened in patio to relax in with cozy reading chairs and a couch.

The Gate House is one of two cottages available on the Tranquility Estate with room to sleep seven and a playroom to accommodate children - 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths, 1 powder room, sleeps 7 with plenty of extra room for kids on futons. On the second floor is the king sized master bedroom with a pull-out couch and ensuite, and two queen sized bedrooms that share a full bathroom across the hall. Both of these bathrooms have a tub/shower combo. The fourth bedroom is a twin in the finished basement where there is a full bath with walk-in shower stall, laundry room, extra living area, and pool table. The first floor features the spacious open living room, kitchen, and two dining tables, as well as a half bath.

Simply Lovely

We loved our week stay at Tranquility! It has a perfect location - just a short drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor, yet in a quite and serene wooded lot. A few hundred yards stroll from the Gatehouse and you are on the shore to Frenchman's Bay with truly amazing views. The house was spotless and the grounds equally pristine. We had an issue with the heat in the primary bedroon that was addressed by the property manager promptly. Pride in ownership definitely shows in this beautiful and aptly name property! Would stay again in a heartbeat.

Maine Getaway

“Tranquility” is well-named. Our family (my husband and me, plus three adult “kids”, and one mini-Aussie Shepherd) enjoyed the peace and quiet of the Gate House and all its surrounding beauty. Multiple daily walks to the beaches through the meandering features of the Japanese Garden or on the direct path to the beach and the long dock - all afforded amazing views that encapsulated the beauty of Maine. The house was spacious and clean. We especially enjoyed the screened porch for sharing morning coffee and often watching 3 wild turkeys visit the yard. It is a short drive to Bar Harbor to restaurants and shops, and an even shorter drive to the Hull’s Cove entrance to Acadia. Though Hurricane Lee impacted our plans for time on the water since floats had to be pulled a few days before the storm, we left hoping to return to MDI and Tranquility and add those plans to our next trip. Thank you, Lee, for being so responsive.

Superb house and stay!

The house was absolutely beautiful — much bigger than it looks in pictures, clean, and stocked with everything we needed. The grounds were even more stunning. We loved walking through the large gardens and forest, down to the private shore, and onto the dock. Our family loved our stay here! The communication with the property property manager was also excellent! We had a couple of questions that were answered in a matter of minutes. We highly recommend!

The only problem was not with the owners ut with VRBO. The entire amount of therental was taken in January. This has never happened to me before.

Family vacation with adult children and spouses

We had a great time during our stay. The house and property is large and quiet. It was centrally located so easy to explore the island, Arcadia park and the surrounding area by car. The house was comfortably designed for room to relax, play cards/games, cool, watch movies and roam the beautiful property.

Paradise on the Water

The Tranquility property is a special place, and our family enjoyed our stay at Tranquility Gate House and the property very much. The home is set on beautifully landscaped grounds, the kitchen is well-stocked with everything cooks need, and the living areas are comfortable and spacious enough to allow everyone to spread out and have their "own" space. We especially loved the screened-in porch and the deck overlooking the grounds. The bedrooms were comfortable and the individually-controlled ac units throughout the house appreciated and hard to find on MDI. The house was sparkling clean upon arrival, and the property manager very helpful and responsive. The grounds are simply amazing, and we enjoyed time on the shore and sitting on the dock, walking thru the gardens, and playing croquet and bocci. We hope we will be able to return many times in the future - and for now are treasuring the memories of our lovely stay.

Great Stay!

Couldn't have had a better time at the property. This house is on a larger property with 4 houses total. Its about a one block walk to the beach but there are beautiful gardens on the ground and wonderful trails to enjoy all of it. Couldn't have asked for a better stay.

Wonderful in every way!

All the 5-star reviews are much-deserved! Beautiful house, huge and gorgeous property, perfect location for visiting Acadia and Bar Harbor. House has high ceilings and and large open kitchen/dining/living area that is perfect for hanging out with family, playing games, etc. Bedrooms are lovely, and beds are very comfortable. We loved the deck - it was the perfect place to lounge in the late afternoon after hiking Acadia. The rest of the property, shore and dock are beautiful to explore. We saw deer every day, as well as a fox and wild turkeys. The birds seemed very happy here, too - lots of beautiful bird songs! A few minutes’ drive to the Hulls Cove entrance of Acadia one direction, a few minutes to great ice cream the other direction, and an easy and pretty 10-minute drive to downtown Bar Harbor. You can tell by how well this house is taken care of that the owner loves it, and the property manager takes excellent care of it. It’s sparkling clean, well-organized, and stocked with everything you might need. If this house is available, don’t hesitate to rent it. Our family loved this house, and we hope to stay again soon!

Family getaway

The pictures and description don’t do this property justice. The house was roomy with lots of space for the 8 of us to spread out. There was even enough room and both the outdoor and indoor dining room table for us to all eat together! It was a pleasant surprise to find the house was well-stocked, even with bathroom essentials and laundry detergent. The property was peaceful and incredibly manicured. We saw deer and turkeys walk across the yard daily. The pond on the property is a frog pond and the kids had a blast chasing and catching frogs. There are endless numbers of hidden gems to explore and it makes it hard to leave the property to go explore the town. Lastly, the beach and dock were our favorites to explore. There is a table and chairs to have morning coffee or evening drinks on the dock. We enjoyed fishing off the dock. I hope we have a chance to go back to tranquility. It was my favorite vacation spot to date!

All That The Name Implies!

We had a wonderful time at Tranquility Gate House. The very well maintained grounds and comfortable furnishings made for a very pleasant stay. The lawn games, croquette and bocci, Japanese garden, accessible sea shore, acres of mowed lawn and plantings surrounded by quite woods all contributed to the serenity of the setting. The open, spacious living and dining area adjoining the well appointed kitchen made our indoor time very comfortable. Additionally, the downstairs pool table, sun room and large outdoor patio all contributed to our thoroughly enjoyable vacation in Acadia National Park.

Home away from Home

We stayed here with our family following my sisters wedding up here in Northeast Harbor. The home was perfect for our dog, our 10 month year old daughter and my parents and sister and brother in law. The house is the perfect proximity to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor without the heavy tourism. We had a wonderful stay, the beds were super comfortable and the amenities were above our expectations. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Bar Harbor and the are for either their first time or a regular visitor.

Beautiful property and wonderful location

We travelled to Bar Harbor for a family reunion to celebrate my parent's 60th wedding anniversary. Though we were split up among a few different properties, the Tranquility Gate House was where we gathered in the evening to spend time together for dinner and then games afterwards. The kitchen was fantastic for cooking for a large group and there was plenty of room. The two tables in the main room were perfect for the Family Euchre tournament. The grounds were amazing - we loved the Japanese garden, the large deck with comfortable chairs, the screened-in porch, and how close the shore was to the property. Several times we saw wildlife on the property and it was quiet and peaceful. The house was also really convenient to downtown Bar Harbor and the Hulls Cove Visitor Center in Acadia - great for shopping, restaurants, hiking and kayaking. It was our first trip to Bar Harbor but we would love to go back and stay at the Tranquility Gate House again.

This house made our vacation!

As other reviewers have said, the pictures do not do this property justice. The Gate House is one of three houses on the property. The house itself is absolutely huge, clean, and stocked with all of the linens, towels, kitchen other items you could possibly need. The finished basement has a pool table, and there is a spacious 3rd floor that was great as a designated "play room." The beds were comfortable, and the AC was more than sufficient. The deck and backyard were amazing for our children and dogs to run around, and the croquet and bocce ball courts provided for some novel games. The dock and shore views were northing short of spectacular. And the grounds themselves are gorgeous - with Japanese gardens, walking paths, and benches/chairs galore. My travel party included myself, my husband, our 3 young boys (age 7 and under), my parents, and 2 golden retrievers. We enjoyed our time in Bar Harbor and Acadia - this was our first visit. But the house is what made the vacation! We will not hesitate to book here when we return someday, and cannot recommend it enough!

Great Stay at Beautiful Property

Tranquility was just that, Tranquil. The immaculate grounds gave our family the chance to relax and enjoy all the property offered. From playing lawn games on the massive lawns to enjoy our own free fireworks show from the dock, to combing the beach for shells, Tranquility had it all. The house was large and easily suited our family of 8, there was plenty of places to hang out, play games and just relax. We truly enjoyed our experience and hope to get back there in the future!

A beautiful home in a spectacular setting

We had two wonderful weeks at Tranquility and are grateful to have found this home. The home is lovely and well-equipped with anything you could need, and the grounds are fabulous. The beaches, lawn, gardens, dock, and croquet and bocce courts (with fresh Maine blueberries growing alongside) are truly special. The location is great — very close to Bar Harbor and Acadia but just far enough to be away from the crowds. Our entire party (aged 8 weeks - 69 years) very much enjoyed our stay! Highly recommended for anyone looking for a unique home base on beautiful MDI.

Gorgeous Property Beautiful Home

Tranquil perfectly describes the immaculately landscaped property and beautiful home at Tranquility Gate House. Our morning and evening routine became crossing the bridge, winding our way down to the shore, and returning around the Monet pond - listening to the bullfrogs. Peaceful. Beautiful. Real. The home is marvelous and our party of six adults and one child loved every minute of our stay. Something for everyone, we enjoyed the telescope, the pool table, the bocci, the croquet, the shore, the pond, the lawn. All of it was beautifully done with high standard of quality in mind. An outstanding time in Acadia, the house and grounds being a huge part of the trip to Bar Harbor, ME.

TOTAL TRANQUILITY

We've vacationing at Acadia on a regular basis for the best several years and for our time at Acadia this year (2021) we wanted it to be a bit more special as it is my wife's and my 50th wedding anniversary. On all of our previous visits we have stayed on the "Quiet Side" of MDI and I have to admit that when we decided on Tranquility I was a bit concerned about staying that close to Bar Harbor. But boy was I wrong. The moment we drove into the property it was a "WOW Moment" as we were in our own little piece of total tranquility!!! We could not have asked for anything more for a quiet serene place to spend a time of joyous celebration with our Family. Everything was absolutely perfect. The house it self met all of our needs for space, cleanliness, and comfort. And the grounds down to the oceanfront are beyond description. Tranquility is an awesome place to stay while visiting Acadia and is really beyond words.

Lovely, quiet property

Enjoyed our two week stay at Tranquility. Incredibly well maintained house and grounds. As other reviewers have said, place is better than in pictures. The grounds were lovely to walk with family (kids and grandparents). Only very, very little critique is property is off of main road (.25 miles back so no traffic concern) - so for running or cycling need to spend sometime on 3 (main road to BH) to get anywhere. That being said, would stay again.

Spectacular! If I could live there, I would!

Such a wonderful, well appointed home. Everything you need is there. The grounds are so beautiful! We had turkeys, deer, chipmunks, squirrels and all kinds of birds to view! The sunrises over the ocean were breathtaking. Close to everything while still secluded. , Highly recommend!

Amazing Place

Where do I start? We arrived at an immaculately clean home, with beautiful fresh flower arrangements all picked from the property. The grounds are so well maintained. From inside and outside, they have thought of every single detail. Lee has been so helpful and responsive. My daughter was working remotely the whole week and Lee had made arrangements for her to be able to work elsewhere where the internet is strong enough for what my daughter needed to do. So thankful to Lee. Our family had such an amazing stay. We watched the sunrise as well as the harvest moon from the floating deck. They were breathtaking! We are already planning to come back next summer!

A Sanctuary

One of the most enchanting vacations we have ever had. The property was full of natural beauty and the generosity of the owner and staff allowed us to enjoy the gardens, beaches and wildlife. The house was equipped with everything we could possibly need and the views were outstanding. Everything was comfortable and welcoming.
