About this property

Turangi by the River

50 metres from the Hydro Pool, one of the famous trout fishing pools on the Tongariro River, at the end of a cul de sac. Surrounded by bush, it is secluded, private and quiet. You fall asleep at night listening to the sound of the river. The living/dining area opens onto a sunny deck. There's a large lawn out the front. In winter, crank up the woodburner fire place - perfect after a day's skiing on Mt Ruapehu: Whakapapa only 45 mins away! Walk over to the Major Jones swing bridge and follow easy tracks alongside the river or head to beautiful Lake Taupo, the hot pools at nearby Tokaanu, or Taupo town 40 minutes away.
Please note that this is a basic fishing cottage, not a flash, modern bach. Shabby chic is the vibe. Please bring your own linen and towels, including tea towels.

This Accommodation suited us perfectly and couldn't of been in a better location, the only thing that was abit tricky was the hot water for a shower which lasted only a few minutes so no one really had a successful wash lol , nevermind it was a fantastic holiday and will definitely stay here again if the dates align with our fishing

Tranquility

Relaxing, quiet. Excellent spot to unwind after hiking in the National Park. Plenty of room. Well stocked. Only thing missing was clothes washing facilities but there is a Laundrette in Turangi.

Excellent location

Things were a bit dusty, probably because it had not been used in a while, not the owners fault. But generally may need a bit of love. Deck chairs and table very worn, handle on upstairs window came off in my hands. Instructions and helpfulness of contact were excellent.

Basic rustic bach

Communication with owner was easy. Good location, close to the river. We were not told that windows were being replaced until few days prior to our stay. Builder tidied up ok when we arrived. Hot water tap in bathroom basin still not working after a review in Nov. 2019 and hot water in the kitchen and bathroom ran out early one evening and the systems would not turn back on that evening but did sometime over night. Was warned about this but expected the systems to reheat within a reasonable period of time. Worth considering that no more than two people stay until this is fixed.

Pre Winter break

Just what i needed. Calm little weekend away in comfort. Will certainly miss waking up to the sunrise in the loft bedroom, and listening to the Tongariro River while reading with a cuppa

Nice location, but to many animals living in the house

The location is good, with easy access to Taupō and Tongariro, the house itself is nice, but there were at least 3 different families of birds nesting inside the walls and ceiling of the property. The noise and the smell was very off putting. I’m not sure if the property is cleaned aside from when the previous guests leave, and the carpets were covered in dead flies that had gotten trapped inside, so I’m not sure when that last was.The instructions for check in were easy enough to follow and the directions to the property were clear, but in the end we found a different place to stay last minute due to the noise, smell, and lack of cleanliness. If we had booked with a larger group (as this property has true space) this wouldn’t have been possible.

Beautiful spot by the river. The Bach is well set up with furniture, cutlery and bedding (BYO sheets) and has all the basics, ideal for a family.

Enjoyable stay, great location by river.

We always enjoy staying here with a couple of friends for an annual getaway. Great location right on the river. Although at the start of this stay we were greeted with unwashed, food laden dishes and rubbish etc left from previous guests which we had to clean up.
