Great little Bach with everything we needed. A great time was had by all. Lots to do around the area and strolling around the streets, paths and down to the beaches was cool.
Had a great stay - outside area needs a good clean up - had a few problems with cockroaches and mice running around
Great value for money
Great location
Great location and property for the family and particularly well set up for young kids. The pad had everything we needed. Close as to the lake which was ideal. Thanks heaps Nicole.
The little place is nicely set up and cosy. The close proximity to the reserve and access to little lake side walks was great for the kids.
Handle on the fireplace needs a bit of attention, but apart from that we were very happy.
Quintessential kiwi bach in an amazing location. So much to see and do, especially if you have a boat! We were really lucky to have the owners staying in the bach next door so got all the local knowledge on what to see and do, including some spots to catch fish. Very much recommended!
What a spot, so quiet and relaxing. We had family book next door and it was so nice going between houses for meals etc. Planning to come back and stay for longer.
The house was cosy, comfortable, clean, dog-friendly, fully fenced. Field next to the house great for running the dog, the house is very close to the lake with easy boat access.
Lots of toys and kids dvd's.
We love this spot. Home away from home in a truly stunning part of New Zealand. We were warm and cozy even though we had a couple of chilly days. So much to explore on the Lake Tarawera area as well as in Rotorua. Pickle the Pug was very happy to be included in the holiday too.
We met the owners Nicole and Steve who were staying in the Fidgety Fantail. Super helpful and friendly.
I really don’t need to give high recommendations. Anyone who has stayed here before knows what a great place it is.

Thanks Wendy - it was really lovely to meet you all too - we look forward to hosting you all (as well as Pickle & Darcy) again soon
The process of booking made me want to cancel - it sounded so unfriendly - bring linen, bring tea towels, bring soap, bring tea and coffee, we might have some toilet paper for you - no cancellation refund, clean up after yourself - aligned with extra charges for cleaning and service on top of the cost. Very off putting. The actual stay was great - lovely house that we all fitted into well, a well stocked kitchen for cooking - firewood - a few necessities in the kitchen - a lovely place to stay - so - I suggest doing something about the initial process - if I hadn't wanted a holiday so badly I would have been really put off - oh - and what's going on with no more than 180ks on the trampoline - I've never met kids that big....
We had a lovely stay. Weather wasn’t playing. But the Bach was warm and cozy and had everything we needed for a family holiday with books and board games.
We stayed with our 4 kids and 2 dogs, and had a wonderful time. The house was easy to use and had all we needed. The hosts Steve and Nicole were amazing, and gave us local knowledge on activities and walks in the area, and provided bikes for the kids, and our kids were also given rides on their motor-buggy around the reserve, which was a real unexpected highlight. Very friendly people, and we'll be back again :) Thanks again!

About the host
Hosted by NZTarawera
We are Steve, Nicole and Sam. Welcome to our little bit of NZ paradise.
Why they chose this property
After spending time with family in bustling Mt Maunganui, we wanted somewhere peaceful to retreat to .... a relaxing destination to escape to at holiday time. An internet search led us to the Cheeky Tui at Lake Tarawera. After 10 plus years of booking and renting the house ourselves and many lake friends later, we feel very fortunate to be given the opportunity to share this property with you.
We love our outdoor piece of paradise whether it is boating picnics, water sports, mountain biking, fishing to horse riding and hiking in the area.
What makes this property unique
Get back to nature and share in the bush and birdsong at the quiet end of the Lake. A boat ramp for launching your boat is only a quick 1 min drive away. Sheltered, family and pet friendly spaces - relax and enjoy paradise!
