Born in New Zealand, I currently live in Christchurch, although spent my childhood in Auckland. I am passionate about the outdoors and have spent my life sailing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, mountain running and skiing - in New Zealand and overseas. My children have spent their childhood holidays playing at Moenui. Now, it is wonderful to see them having holidays here with their teenage friends. For many years I was reluctant to open up the home for the holiday rental market. However, it has been very heartening to see how respectful and positive the many guests are. It is a pleasure to be able to share this place. I only wish I could meet you all, but it is a bit tricky from Christchurch!
Moenui_Retreat purchased this House in 2003
Why Moenui_Retreat chose Havelock
A holiday in the Marlborough Sounds, filled with mountain biking, swimming, kayaking, fishing and hiking, introduced me to this wonderful region of New Zealand. Excited about the prospect of purchasing a holiday home, I drove around for a day, noting appealing settlements, which also didn't have excessive travel time from Christchurch, nor windy roads. Shortly afterwards I purchased my holiday home in Moenui. We have had many wonderful family holidays here and never tire of what adventures and beauty the Sounds offer.
What makes this House unique
Within the first few minutes of arriving at the property, we fell in love with the beautiful view framed by the native bush. When not adventuring, much of our time is spent on the expansive deck (replaced in 2018), absorbing the ever changing light and ripples playing on the water. I never tire of this view and love the cosiness of the bach. The local community are wonderful - . forever helpful, welcoming and social.

Lovely place to stay met all our expectations
Stunning views and great location. A lovely cozy bach.
Gorgeous spot for a break!
We really enjoyed our stay. The house was super comfortable, with everything you could possibly need! The views were amazing. Perfect place to explore the area and recharge for a couple of days! We’ll definitely be back.
Relaxing - Peaceful - Great view
Comfortable and very clean. Good communication with owner. So peaceful and relaxing we stayed an extra night. Did the Pelorus Mailboat run - ate local mussels. Will definitely come back with our bikes next time. Stars and Milky Way = Awesome!
Loved the enthusiasm and positive, efficient communication. Love to have you back and thank you for taking care of the place, leaving it clean and tidy.
The milky way will be shining for your next visit...
Quiet getaway with magnificent views
Great place to escape busyness. Batch in a small settlement easily reached from the Queen Charlotte Drive. Comfortable, clean and has everything needed in a batch. Great deck facing the sound north east and gets the sun. Comfortable bed. Cell coverage in the house was poor.
Thanks for leaving the place clean and tidy for the next guest, who commented that it was clean - really appreciated. Yes, the phone coverage seems to fluctuate. Some times its fine and other times it is poor. It has its pluses, as it reduces that amount of time the teenagers spend on it!
A relaxing retreat
We loved staying at this retreat. After a week walking, climbing and swimming it was just what we needed. A stormy day with rain kept us mostly house-bound on the Saturday but the kids delighted in all the colouring and craft opportunities, board games and movies. The other day we managed to get out and explore local walks and the museum. Every little detail had been considered and we were very comfortable. Thank you for a wonderful end to our holiday!
Thank you for your kind feedback and most of all for leaving the place so clean and tidy. Much appreciated and glad your stay went well.
Spend a day visiting world renowned vineyards for a day of tasting and fine cuisine
