Great bach that was available last minute. Very peaceful location that had easy instructions to find. House had everything we needed to relax. River was a bit further away than we expected but it was a nice walk down there.
Love the shack!! Was great getting back to basics and chilling out with my family. Our host Corina was a pleasure to communicate with. Highly recommend.
We continue to return every year for an Autumn break. Rustic, beautiful and cosy, quiet and safe for kids, dogs and horses!! Very affordable and so welcoming.
"The Shack" is located in a quiet, rural setting. Plenty of room for hounds to stretch their legs after a long drive......or boring day in town.
"The Shack" is a back to basics stay, but is well equipped with everything you need to be comfortable and warm.
We did enjoy our stay and Corina is a great host.
An absolute amazing beautiful shack that takes you back to basics and to enjoy the nature environment around you, family and friends. We went over with kiddies, horses, pony, and dog. Corina is absolutely amazing and really accomodating. We absolutely loved our stay. Thank you so much Corina, girls can not wait to come back

Good getaway
Loved we could go off grid so close to Christchurch. Well equipped little house - bit low on matches and cleaning cloths.
Also pretty obvious that it needed a deep clean - I moved the bedside dresser to find a large collection of mouse poo - and then pretty much find that to be the case under all the furniture - it was even under the mattress. Cleaned up what we could before we left but it definitely took a shine off the weekend. I took photos
I and my group of friends loved staying in this private and peaceful place in the country. We were able to travel easily to nearby Rangiora and Ashley Gorge, but spent most of the time sitting outside in the sunshine and relaxing. Having a fenced area around the house was great as it meant the dogs were able to run freely. Being off grid was good for us even though it took a little getting used to - internet break is good for all of us! Good descriptions and instructions. We had a bit of a hard time finding the water hole but that might have been us! Thank you for the experience, as we all enjoyed it very much.
The Shack is a dream retreat for those looking to break free from the chaos of everyday life. This off-the-grid haven offers an unparalleled sense of peace, completely free from mobile coverage and the internet. You're enveloped by nature, and the only 'notifications' you'll get are the sounds of chirping birds. Despite its rustic surroundings, The Shack offers a surprisingly comfortable bed and armchairs.
The Shack operates on a minimalist solar panel system, designed to meet essential power needs like basic lighting and USB charging. It's worth noting that you won't find power points here- aligning with the property's off-the-grid ethos. So while it's convenient for minimal electrical use, you'll need to plan ahead if you require more.
Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate that bushwalks begin right at your doorstep. Cooking options are versatile with a great BBQ setup and an indoor 2-ring gas burner. The wood-fired stove is also available for cooking. While the stove provides enough warmth in late October, it may not be sufficient for the colder winter months.
The setting is quite favourable for star photography. Book lovers, however, can prepare to turn pages until dawn in this serene setting.
If you're seeking a rejuvenating escape, look no further than The Shack. Pack wisely and get ready for an experience that will restore your peace and offer memorable moments.
Found the property well looked after brought back some lovely memories of the cold range and lots of games were play at night was fun for our family we will come and stay again good to have no technology
Loved the off grid feel, perfect for a relaxing stay. Loved the coal range. Playing cards, relaxing reading a book, and walking to the river! Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway!!
We were looking for somewhere quiet to chill and recharge our batteries, also to bring along our dog Mr Shelby.
What a beautiful place to stay off the grid a little 😉 we had the most chilled out time. Thank you
A very private and self contained cottage. Facilities are very basic which I have no problem with but felt that it wasn't communicated enough. Good gas cooking options. Not sure if the fridge would cope with a lot of food if a family was staying for more than one night. Lots of room for kids to explore and the outdoor seating was great. Wonderful to be able to have our dog but I think the swimming hole was overstated. Would have been ok if we had horses to ride there but wasn't worth the walk. Would highly recommend and would stay again but wouldn't include the river as a feature.
Fantastic property. We really enjoyed our stay. We spent most of our days visiting family, so didn't have enough time to explore the beautiful scenery and will have to return.
